Do You Role Play Without Realising it?

Nah, not really that weird. I find I try not to get my costume dirty when in the sewers. I mean who the hell wants to walk through sewerage.

I will always "complain" if it's a sewer mission and about the cost of the dry cleaner...or WHY they couldn't get a nice office for once...just once.

And indeed, avoiding the water in the sewer.

I'm not a RPer at all, but on the blue cave missions I actually feel physically cold when running through the water. It makes me shiver, in a way that water elsewhere in the game doesn't. BUT. It only happens when playing one character. So, I don't know. Subconscious RPing, maybe :-)

While I do roleplay I also find myself doing various things even when solo, namely TF2 quotes popping into my head.

If using an AR user that has snipe whenver I fire off snipe, before the shot has fired I'll normally whisper to myself, "Say goodbye to your head, [censored]" or "thanks for standing still [censored]" and I'll always try and find the 'best' location to launch the snipe from if I can, say on a rooftop to mobs down below.

Full auto gets the "MUWAHAHA CRY SOME MORE!" treatment.

Flamethrower gets the pyro's muffled chuckle come.

On brute/scrapper/tanker gets the "What sick man sends babies to fight me" "it's good time to run cowards!"

A real showstopper!

all my Dragon alts have a distinct personality, some are quiet but helpful while other (tiny sized) ones go around headbutting guys inbetween the legs....either way i try to have fun on my toons and i do try to RP but its been a little weird coming in and trying to get started while everyone knows everyone else and has their own storylines to follow

Most of my RP characters have different costumes for different purposes. One, who has a hood up only takes it down when with a group of people he trusts, if I'm teaming with my friends I tend to use that costume.

there is only one flaw in mothers theory about RP, not every RP character is made to group.(which is also the whole reason why this game is not made for solo play, to slow progress.)

[/ QUOTE ]

Mumsie wasn't talking about teaming - it was a note that RPers tend to RP in clusters of characters. I have yet to find any RP character who has never had a single IC interaction with another character. In fact, I have no idea how such a character could be considered an RP character at all.

RP=role playing, means you play a specivic role with a character, whenever it is within a group or on your own.
also, mom did say grouping

Roleplay is a skill that is much more about the social setting and weaving a narrative in-groups.

Groups doesn't mean the mechanic of teaming up and doing missions, it just means a group of people who are also roleplaying, usually standing under GG or in Pocket D.

When I'm on a character I tend to keep in character but I really hate roleplaying in a static location so I tend not to join in with the group rp sessions. None of my characters would spend more than maybe half an hour with any of these groups because they're 'on the job' when I'm playing them, so they'll be off doing missions.

If someone talks to me then I'll reply in character most of the time unless it'll just make things awkward.
