I'd have to be able to even think about having that kind of Inf first... the most I've ever had on a toon was 60 Million.

I have to admit I lost patience to wait for a "low" bid of 450 million to go through for the 'Gladiator's Armour: +3% def(All) unique'. Since I had the influence and nothing else to spend it on, I coughed up the 700 million that was the going rate at the time.
If I was attempting to IO out more than one character, I doubt I would have done it. My regular policy for the really expensive items is to place a low bid and wait a month or so if necessary for it to go through.
I'm perhaps one of the richest people around here but there's no way i'd spend 700 million for one IO. Especially one that gives the smallest of bonuses. It's just not worth it.
100 mill tops per IO and that's for something useful like a Luck of the gambler +recharge, heal unique's or purps.

I've more influence than I can store on one character, and I'd still not pay 700 million for an IO.
100 Million is about the limit, and even then it'd probably be better to buy it with Merits (the exception is Purples as these are so rare and practically unfarmable, I'll pay 150-200 million for these if I need to).
PVP recipes really don't offer that much benefit, except for the +3% defence one and possibly the +Heal/+End Proc even though it spams green numbers above your head). But I'd much rather farm these as drops... 
The +3% defence one is very useful at the moment as it lets a lot of combinations hit the 45% softcap cap without sacrificing other bonuses. That's the only reason it's so pricy. The +Heal/+End one is just a glorified Numina Proc that heals you for a tiny amount (And uses the buff scale, so Defenders get more HP than Tanks) rather than uping your regen. Defence-based builds could drop Aid Self for it, freeing up two power slots.
Surprisingly many people here that seem to have the same perspective on things as I do. I would never pay over 100mil for one IO, even though I can easily make 50mil or more overnight playing the market...
I don't often utilize things much in my builds if they cost over 100 mil a piece. I do have some LotG +rechs in storage from when they cost 20mil or less a piece. Other than that, I just do TFs and hope I get lucky with random rolls.

The reasons I ended up paying 700 million for it were basically:
- I only play one character, and it was the last item I needed to complete the build. I've no interest in building up another character. This is mainly due to time constraints.
- Due to my build decisions, I usually survive well in PvP but have trouble catching runners and scoring kills. I also prefer to solo in the zones (the wisdom of that can be debated, but there it is). As a result, I didn't expect to ever get a +3% def IO as a PvP drop.
- My time online is fairly limited these days, so what time I do have online I spend playing the game rather than farming, which I find boring.
- Influence is fairly easy and quick to accumulate through the market. Since I bought the IO a week ago, I'm up a couple of 100 million. Come I16 and potential new IOs, I expect to have built up sizeable reserves again.
- And finally, it's essentially monopoly money we're discussing.
So all in all, on that basis I consider it not completely mad to pay 700 million. A little eccentric (i.e. mad with money), at most.
I will probably do it on my brute as soon as i have gotten the rest i need. The idea of softcapping with less than 10 mobs appeals to me.
I don't have a clue how to play the market, nor have I ever had more than 100 million inf at any one time so... these enhancements are not for me lol

There was a time I had a limit and would never spend more than 10million inf for anything. Then I discovered marketeering schemes and gradually my limit went up to the point where, after making my first 2 billion inf, I bid it all away on purples in about an hour.
It still took 2-3 weeks for all those bids to fill - I'm not about to overpay - but I have spent 125mill on a single purple IO after seeing it at that price for 3 weeks solid, not having my 100mill "lowball" bid fill, and just biting the bullet and paying 125mill for it.
Took me 5 weeks after getting that first 2bill to hit the cap again (on both sides) - nearly twice as fast as first time round - so it's all a matter of perspective now - I guess inf has less value for me than it did. Sure, I still underbid and look for bargains, but the actual amounts don't bother me at all anymore - it's not like it's real money.
I'm not about to buy PvP recipes, but for purples/uniques/HOs I'm willing to pay whatever seems to be the going rate - I have no self-imposed limits anymore.
Aslong as i don't pay over the going rate i dont care about prices, hence buying the def allpvp io just because i wanted it attitude.

That's how I make my living, I tend to get ranged damage IO's for my scrapper though
I wouldn't pay 100mil for an IO either, it's hardly worth that much for the small bonuses anyway.

If you use temp powers then you can reach it for a while?
Well yeah if i use wedding band then quite easily, but i like to use my temps as a last resort/max me out kind of thing If i can get to 55 - 60% for all then hopefully i can cap all my resis with the help of a temp power!

pretty sure when i checked them yesterday their price had fallen a few hundred mill quite easily. Judging by the last few transactions it was anyway.

I've just logged in and observed the prices (blue side)
They are selling for 450 - 650 mill as a lvl 50 enhancement. They don't currently seem to be selling at other lvl's.
It also seems to be selling at 375 - 600 mill as a lvl 50 recipe. Once again, none are currently selling at other lvl's.

Ah i could have possibly looked at one of the other pvp uniques, if so im sorry. Though with the amount of people farming them it was going to shoot down in price. Like just now i bought a resis/end pvp IO for 25 mill and a few days ago it was easily in the 50+ million bracket.

Certainly not. Not only because thats a ridiculous amount of Influence, but more that the state of Post-I13 PvP is in such flux that there is no guarantee that the desired effect you are after will not be nerfed a couple of months later.

OTOH, if you're a PVPer and marketeer, in those couple of months you can have made back the 600million a few times over, and enjoyed the use of the IO in the meantime.
