Dual builds _ contentious
Selling stuff at the AH makes it quite easy to fully kit out 2 builds with SOs at level 22.
I really should do something about this signature.
Between marketing salvage, common io recipies and selling [censored] do's you can have more than enough dough to slot 2 builds at 22 as praf said.
yep as long as you don't want to pimped out builds strait of the bat you can pretty easily afford to slot up to builds
personally i find it easier to slot to builds from the start as well just seems easier than getting to the 30s and then attempting it but that's probably just me.
I think the dual build thing was an incentive thrown to the PvPers letting them have a PvP and a PvE build on the same toon.
For everyone else since the game is apparently balanced around SO's there is no reason you cannot afford to kit out two builds if you sell your drops on the market or have even one level 50 and one friend to help the transfer.
Yes most people aren't going to be able to afford to purple out both sides of a build but that kind of thing is meant to be a long term aim not an easily achievable goal for most. Think yourself lucky your not on EQ where it would take thousands of hours to even get one top end item.
The problem on this game is they are aiming at the casual player, hence balancing around SO's, but they know they need to keep those who play for a long time, hence the IO's, but the casual player can't afford IO's and feels bad because of it.
British by act of union, English by grace of God, Northern by pure good fortune!
I sympathise AstroBear but I think I have to vote against.
The main reason is that it would almost certainly be a right pain for the dev's to code. The is because they can't just clone the IO when you put it in or people could use dual builds to manufacture high value IOs. They'd have to come up with a sort of "ghost" system instead where one build has the master IO and the other get's a slave version.
The other thing that makes me say no, is that I don't think second builds are used that much. On the toons I have so far, the primary build is good enough for all situations. (I don't PvP though.) I don't think this change would help enough people for it to be worth the effort.
I liked the Dual Builds idea when it was bandied about.
Then I realised I couldn't be bothered creating a new build and SOing up again, as well as then maintaining it.
Plus the realisation that on Khelds I'd also have to burn a respec to pre-slot the forms with the 1-6 slots etc, I just gave up and played instead. Once (if) I hit 50 on my WS (only 6 levels to go, should take me a year or two) I may do a build slanted towards more human form powers, maybe.
Other than that I've no real reason to Dual build any of my other chars really.
I can't agree for some of the reasons stated. One of the things you can use your 2nd build for is to do long term testing, which isn't always feasable on the Test Server due to lack of teams etc.
With SOs you can get a good overview, that you can then either translate to your primary build or work towards building as an independant entity.
You could even run it as a totally seperate toon with the same powersets and thus do different things with it.
On my main blaster I have one "ranged" build and one "blapper" build. It can be fun

Currently if you make a second build for a toon the second build starts with no enchancments (I am told - I haven't bothered for teh reason I'm about to state).
This makes me think that's pointless having a second build unless:
The toon you are doing it on is L50 and therefore you can generate sufficient inf to fund a second build without outlevelling/gimping one or both of your builds.
or
You are awash with sufficient inf across all of your alts that you can tranfer inf to lowbies.
Now bearing in mind they wont give us a proper system for inf transfer it would seemn the Dev's want to discourage inf transfer and therefore this isn't a route they intended for us to take.
The main reason I would want to have a second build is to have a team and a solo build enabling me to level solo if there are no teams going (ahem* CoV). If I am getting insuffiecnt inf to fund two decent builds (and lets face it without inf transfer or "lucky" drops it's always a bit tight slotting one build) then the system is useless to me.
I am not fortunate to have suffcient "back to back" time to indulge day in day out in "lucretive" activities like TF's and I while I know many people here on the forums can and do I don't think folk here are always representative of the overall player base.
I once heard that the devs wouldn;t spend time making something that would be of use to most players so:
How about letting us carry across the enhancments from one build to another in a "respec stylee".
Let the flaming begin.
