CoX drawings by Darth Delicious
Soooo I've been working on backgrounds today.
Just some basic backgrounds to start with. I tried detailed backgrounds, but I just can't seem to work that out to my satisfaction...but I'm content for the moment
CoH related example:
And one more, though not CoH related;
The original idea was to paint the full detailed castle on the background...but I will have to do a lot of practice before I'll be able to do so to my own satisfaction. So... I figured...what if I would draw a blurred version of the castle and the trees and stuff..and so I did. It will have to do.... atleast for now.. maybe for ever... who knows!

Besides doing more drawing on several projects.... I just finished another background to give myself a break from the other projects *giggles*
As I did a background for CR's drawing of Dee, it is CoH related...and that is why I shall post it here
A bubbly pinkish background for Dee!

Did she queue up for you to autograph that breast?

*giggles* I don't think Dee has to stand in any que to get her breast signed

It looks to be a different variation on what I tried (with a better looking result), I'll keep playing around with it and see what else I can come up with.
Anything that can make a decent looking background quickly is good to know though, you should put a copy of that "mess" in the tips and tricks thread DD.
Oh good point! I'll put it in there at once!

It was mentioned in the Tips and Tricks topic too.. about a colouring technique going from dark to light? It made me think of something I'm working on...
I saw a video from an inspiring portrait artist on youtube (speedpaint) and got inspired to try it out.
So I've been doing a project colouring something like that aswell. See how that works and stuff... also very good practice in using colours and shades... and for me to be more blunt with them *nods*.
Look what I got sofar! (well...there is more, but since it's a non-CoH related portrait (yet again), I figured I'd place the nose only *giggles*. Afterall... noses áre found in CoH ).
I still use my own technique though, but it was a really good start for me to figure out how to be more blunt with those shades . Hopefully I'll be able to apply it on other projects aswell .
Anyhow it's a very fruitfull practice indeed!

Glad you like it still, CR!
Now...going back to the "excellent" looking nose *giggles*... I just finished the surroundings aswell. Now...it's just half of a painting I'm working on, so I won't be posting this on DA just yet..but I wanted to show you the practice piece of the 'style' I'm trying to add to Xllusya's drawing aswell.. though I expect Xllushya's drawing to be a little less realistic..but we'll see .
Sofar I have been producing paintings which, in my opinion, could use a bit more contrast in their colours and shades. And I'm eager to learn how to paint them instead of using the contrast and brightness and hue tool. That's why the practice .
You may think...gah... another Merlin Fan-Art piece? Yeah..well... if it helps keeping the practice piece interesting. And when something I work on is interesting enough... it helps keeping the concentration on a high level which then helps the speed of finishing a piece! All win!

If it is Merlin related, then it is a winner in my book!! And this one is definitely a WINNER!!

Ok, time to be the unpopular one, with that monster of all monsters; Art Critique D=
Firstly; good points. The clothing is good. The chainmail looks a little clunky in places, but it works. Merlin's jacket and neckerchief came out really well, and the hair didn't come out badly either.
Now. The eyes and faces. The lips seem to be way too defined, because they are popping out of the faces, rather than being a part of them. They also seem far more pronounced than they should be, especially on male characters. They should be noticeable from the rest of the face, sure, but not to that extent.
I would suggest toning the colour down, bringing it closer to that of the rest of the face. Guys lips simply aren't that outstanding, and the brain says 'this is wrong' when they are.
The eyes. They really hit the uncanny valley. Merlin seems to have a 1000 yard stare, rather than looking at Arthur, which I assume is what you were after.
His left (our right) pupil needs to be brought inward slightly, which will aim his gaze more towards Arthur. If in doubt, draw some faint guidelines from each eye to the focus. They should meet up at the end.
And, most importantly, they are too far apart. Merlins need to be brought slightly closer together, and ditto for Arthur's. They both are just off the mark.
All that said, this is still a very good, very solid piece. The colours are good, lighting is good, composition is nice, you are clearly well aware of how to do pictures without line art to follow and do them well.
So, keep it up
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

My one critique; take the blur tool to the teeth. They are too defined, too 'in your face'. They jump out of the picture, taking attention from the rest of the face, which you don't want. They also stumble a little into uncanny valley territory.
On the whole? Great work!

Just to show what I mean. Took the original image and hit the teeth with the blur tool a little, and around the mouth to soften her smile up. Also softened up the eyes and the cheeks, which were a little jutting. Also gave a once pass with the sharpen tool on the hair, to make it really stand out.
Right, I'll stop being a pedantic little botheration, eheh *scuttles back to the lair*

Feedback is not evil! . Not the way you bring it... so you're good!
About the Merlin piece... I'm not 100% pleased with the lips either and consider that a learning point
The same goes for Arthur's chainmail. I rushed through that, I have to admit.
As for the eyes... Merlin is not supposed to look at Arthur.
In the episode something made a sound coming from the direction both guys are looking at.
And I'm not sure if you've seen Merlin *giggles* but he actually has goofy looking eyes!
Here's the reference I used
As for DeeDee *giggles*, know you are also now feedbacking Christopher Robin right? *giggles again*.
Personally I love the eyes standing out instead of blurred.
I'm a sucker for detail *shrugs* can't help it.
But I see where you're going with the teeth and I'll take it into consideration
Thanks for the feedback TA! Much appreciated!

Reasonable feedback, Techbot Alpha and I can see what you did. On the other hand, I have to agree with DeeDee and say 'high definition' looks better to me. It tricks my brain into thinking I don't need glasses.
Yet, I agree, just a little too much color contrast on the lips of Arthur & Merlin.
Be Well!

Another update for CR!
Well.. more a teaser to be honest *giggles*
Made her skin lighter. Because Xllusya has pale skin! *nods*

To proof I do take feedback seriously ... I worked with the mentions of the boys's lips having too much colour contrast, odd thing is... they look just fine on my screen... and even better on my laptop *giggles*...but here goes... This is better...yes? (I'll put in the previous version for comparison)?
