Most US companies write off about a week around Thanksgiving (this year: Nov 27th), with the amount of leave and travelling time and general wind-down in productivity. Asking you to work over that weekend is one of the harshest things a boss can do...
...unless, of course, you've done it already as a Canuck (October) or Brit (4th July). *ka-ching!* It's a bloody lonely time, though.
Hope any US people watching this thread have a good weekend with the people you love - and if you love someone, you tell'em, all right? Not 'arf.

I spent thanksgiving in seattle once.
Was really BORING for me. Every single person stays in and eats those stupendously huge turkeys. 99% of shops and bars close.
Basically a second xmas day.

It's also, perhaps, wise to note that the Americans don't make as big a thing of Christmas as we do. They take a big holiday for Thanksgiving and wonder why we tend to take a whole week off between Christmas and New Year.
