Charity Ribbon Emblems made available for donation
[ QUOTE ]
As i said in the other thread this is a great idea i would say make the change suggested by MarquandDance and have different ribbons for different charities

Cheers
As suggested above I think this is a worthwhile idea. It would also be nice if long drawn out feasibility studies were left to the dev team for once.

I feel that any means to raise money for charities should be welcomed with opened arms. As this has brought up some well placed arguments like development costs, how shall we display our generousity and what will it look like? I think we should view it from a different perspective.
How about a SG wall plaque for bases and/or a charity flag pole somewhere on display around Atlas Park. Nothing better than a What colour is the flag today? question to keep charities at the fore front of peoples minds. This way NC could choose a different charity each month... doesn't even have to be monthly... and the individual could decide when to donate.
Now after all that i think a ribbon at Icon would be an easier option
I like this idea, and would certainly buy the ribbon.
I think though that it would really need Ribbons (Plural) that were already coloured, there are a couple of charities that use multi-coloured ribbons/bands, which we wouldn't be able to duplicate ourselves.
And for those who are wondering "What does NCNC/NCWest/Whatever they're called today get out of this?" - just imagine...
you go to news.bbc.co.uk and there on the top of the tech pages isn't another story about WoW or Second Life, but instead there's this headline:
Caring Heroes Save the World, one ribbon at a time
so just in case people haven't guessed:

Now that's a nice headline

I think a chest emblem is very doable - it could be a big one for the middle of the chest, or a little one that's more like a badge.

That's precisely what I was going for

N.B. If you are going to do smt, please do it or GTFO and STFU nab
Chest emblem is probably the way forward. Is everyone thinking the same as me with it offset to the left like everyone wears them in RL or standard CoX in the middle?
With certain jackets/robes, isn't that how it works anyway?
A logo/emblem is down-sized to be worn on the left of the chest.

Following some positive responses to a suggestion that I made here: http://uk.boards.cityofheroes.com/showfl...&PHPSESSID=
My post:
I'd be interested to see what kind of a response NC would get, if they opened up a 'donation' section, and advertised some kind of charity event?
For instance - something really simple? How about a ribbon emblem? You can wear it on your chest, or on your jacket, and obviously colour it accordinly (pink for breast cancer, red for aids).
They could, say, ask for donations of £1 (GBP) from characters, and all who donate can access this tiny 'extra'. Then you can show your support online.
Development-wise, I'd imagine it would be a tiny thing, and a great gesture from the company. Then the proceeds (or 'most of them', if development will cost) can go to the charity in question, and suddenly, everyone wins:
1) NC come out as a caring developer
2) People can donate, and show their support in game
3) The charity is supported
I actually really think that this is a grand idea. One tiny emblem/logo, a small price (hell, I'd actually go as far as paying £5-10 but only because I feel so strongly for certain charities, so I'd certainly use it! - but £1-2 seems good enough) for something this 'small' in-game.
Opinions?

I think it's totally brilliant idea! Heck, if people are willing to fork over some quids/euros/dollars to change their character name or shift servers, I'm pretty sure they'd happily donate a small sum like that, particularly when it could be done so easily. I know I would.
I wholeheartedly support this suggestion. Logo's would presumably be easier on the dev's to implement (like the emblems we have currently), but either way I would definetly donate towards this knowing my money is being well spent.
Characters:
The Heroic Mary Grace (50)
The Mystical Thunderspark (50)
The Candy-loving Little Jenny (50)
I dont really see that there is an argument going on here, just strong differences of opinion.
I would have thought that having a chest detail as 'Ribbon' would be the easiest option, IMO. Unlocking it could be like, for example, the Vanguard costume pieces, but with paying on your account for £2 (as a possibility). This makes it entirely optional for the player, which the money goes to charity, namely DTWT. Is this not a cost effective option where NC can provide a little more cash to the charity and those who want it can?
Those players who want to support certain charities can (hopefully) without the "ooo, look at me" aspect of ribbons. At the end of the day, it's not about yourself - it's about other people, which is what we (as heroes, anyway) should be refining. If you do/don't want to wear a ribbon, it's your choice.
Is there a logo for DTWT? Maybe this could be included with the ribbon suggestion?
