Perhaps a "Go Brown" day for Prostate cancer?

Well all I'm saying is that it seems that we tend to forget the... how to say this in a not so offensive way... Men.

Hey, I agree with you completely! I'll be 40 in a year, so I'm heading for the "at risk" age bracket!

Let's have a look at the website for breastcancercare.org.uk shall we, who started the whole wear it pink campaign...

http://www.breastcancercare.org.uk/c...hp?page_id=419.

Oh look, they cover male breast cancer. Wow... isn't it amazing when you take the chip off your shoulder and actually find out about something! This isn't a gender issue, just the fact that breast cancer effects far more women than men, therefore the focus is on female screening. The research into the causes and treatment of Breast Cancer is non-gender specific and benefits everyone.

Wow, got though that whole post without using the word muppet! Go me!

Not the point. Ask people and how many will say they are aware that men can get breast cancer?
But not going to turn this into an argument with flames allover the place.

So why no Testicular Cancer day? One that is globally known that is.

I wasn't aware it was for women breast cancer only. But rather for breast cancer.

Well, I was going to say something about one of my characters (FFM should be able to guess which) supporting this, but after that little tirade, I don't think there seems much point.

Ahem

And I wouldn't be surprised if other charities and groups have similar things going on. I agree people tend to fall over themselves to get involved in the breast cancer thing while neglecting exclusively male conditions. If you feel strongly enough about it maybe you can raise the the profile of the next similar event in your area?

It's a shame such a sensible, simple OP had to go that far.

I *was* going to comment on how it's a shame that they picked the 31st of October. People are going to dress 'outrageously' anyway - I would have thought picking a day where wearing something 'different' would have been noticed more would have raised a little more awareness, rather than slipping it in on Halloween, when some people will just think 'Pink outfit = because of Halloween'.

I will consider making a pink costume for this day, to make a point. We have a charity box in our office for breast cancer support, and this post has certainly reminded me to donate this year, so thank you for posting it.

It's a shame that the flames began. However, I can understand the pain that people must go through when a loved one suffers from this, and so I think everyone should just continue to discuss the OP, and be a little understanding to those that have struck each other's nerves. I hope the two of you can find a middle-ground where you can get along.

Again, thank you for the OP. It has made me realise that I will request (on here, too) that my Super Group (at least) wear a token costume for World Aids Day this year, which is as important to me and many others as the support of breast cancer charities are. The upside being, of course, that it won't take long to turn a red costume in december, into my Christmas outfit for this year's winter event! I suppose the only way I can combine halloween and breast cancer awareness in CoH is to design a pink pirate outfit to trick or treat in - which actually is beginning to sound like a good idea!

Thing is, men rarely ever do. Being ill is a terribly private thing. We don't have mental problems, we don't have odd pains, then we keel over into our wheatyflakes one morning with some heart condition that should have been diagnosed three years earlier.

Last thing men want to talk about is prostate cancer. I know I sure as hell don't, so I'm gonna stop now and go do some housework.

Indeed, and I'm exactly the same! So we can't really complain too loudly that we don't have a well known male cancer day.

My mum had a breast cancer scare and had to have an operation so we both support cancer awareness and the charities behind them. I will definatley be changing one of my costumes pink for the 31st. Perhaps we should get an event going as it is on a friday so we could run a team or taskforce into the early hours in the morning.

I'd be interested to see what kind of a response NC would get, if they opened up a 'donation' section, and advertised some kind of charity event?

For instance - something really simple? How about a ribbon emblem? You can wear it on your chest, or on your jacket, and obviously colour it accordinly (pink for breast cancer, red for aids).

They could, say, ask for donations of £1 (GBP) from characters, and all who donate can access this tiny 'extra'. Then you can show your support online.

Development-wise, I'd imagine it would be a tiny thing, and a great gesture from the company. Then the proceeds (or 'most of them', if development will cost) can go to the charity in question, and suddenly, everyone wins:

1) NC come out as a caring developer
2) People can donate, and show their support in game
3) The charity is supported

I actually really think that this is a grand idea. One tiny emblem/logo, a small price (hell, I'd actually go as far as paying £5-10 but only because I feel so strongly for certain charities, so I'd certainly use it! - but £1-2 seems good enough) for something this 'small' in-game.

Opinions?

Is the Pink thing international though? Or just a UK thing? If it's in the US, it MAY happen, but not likely. If it's not, forget about it.
