Well, I'm not sure about Breast Cancer support, but there is a *World* Aids Day

For instance - something really simple? How about a ribbon emblem? You can wear it on your chest, or on your jacket, and obviously colour it accordinly (pink for breast cancer, red for aids).

[/ QUOTE ]

I think its a great idea. The small problem being that since you can color the ribbon yourself who should the money go to? Might need the color to be fixed then just buy the color you want.

I'd be interested to see what kind of a response NC would get, if they opened up a 'donation' section, and advertised some kind of charity event?

They could, say, ask for donations of £1 (GBP) from characters, and all who donate can access this tiny 'extra'. Then you can show your support online.

Development-wise, I'd imagine it would be a tiny thing, and a great gesture from the company. Then the proceeds (or 'most of them', if development will cost) can go to the charity in question, and suddenly, everyone wins:

1) NC come out as a caring developer
2) People can donate, and show their support in game
3) The charity is supported

I actually really think that this is a grand idea. One tiny emblem/logo, a small price (hell, I'd actually go as far as paying £5-10 but only because I feel so strongly for certain charities, so I'd certainly use it! - but £1-2 seems good enough) for something this 'small' in-game.

Opinions?

That's a great idea go stick it in the suggestions section this instant

Please note:

I'll leave the thread here as long as discussion remains related to the OP's post and involves CoH. If the discussion evolves in the direction it has been, however, I'll at the very least move it (to the culture forum) and will lock it if the discussion cannot be carried out in a civilised manner.

I've posted my suggestion in the suggestion forum. I'm glad it has some approval.

You may be right, and that specific ones should be sold for specific events. I suppose it depends on which charities get donated to - that bit would be hard.

Ask people and how many will say they are aware that men can get breast cancer?

[/ QUOTE ]I'd think that's one of the reasons it's called the breast cancer awareness day, ya?

I think it's totally brilliant idea! Heck, if people are willing to fork over some quids/euros/dollars to change their character name or shift servers, I'm pretty sure they'd happily donate a small sum like that, particularly when it could be done so easily.

Wonder if any devs are 'listening' right now... ?

Perhaps A more sexually nuetral colour would have encouraged more men to participate
Do I support Cancer reaserch : Affirmative
Will I be wearing pink because of that : Negative

I'm afraid I have a huge aversion to the colour - there's a reason it's a four-letter word.

I think it's a great idea though and I'll certainly make a cyan-y/purple cossie that's as close as I can bear.

We already work very closely with Draw the World Together at events that we attend, and we've raised a lot of money for charity since the partnership was first launched.

We understand that, GR, and believe me, I've given a fair bit to DTWT for my sketches, and feel as though it's a great cause!

We were just putting forward the idea that a costume piece / logo / emblem could be created for purchase, and a portion of *that* go to DTWT / other charities too. Like a 'charity add-on pack'. You pay for the pack (like the wedding pack) and get the logo/emblem, and the money goes (totally, or partially) to DTWT. Then, in-game, you can wear a (coloured) version of that logo/emblem, to represent the charity/event that you wish to support, either throughout the year, or on specific days.

The idea to donate some money via playNC and get the cossie feature to have a pink ribbon on your char would be a fab idea and i'd support it 100%

If you like the idea, please pop over to the 'Suggestions' forum/thread and place your comments there That's the best place to give this suggestion some weight!

I think this is wrong in the best possible way. You shouldn't be encoruaging people to dress their avatars in pink... that after all is far to easy and lets face it as MaX says many already where pink. No lets go the whole hog and find out how many of us will be wearing pink on that day and donating to the cause.

That after all is sort of heroic.

Perhaps pictures afterwards as well?

If you feel strongly enough about it maybe you can raise the the profile of the next similar event in your area?

Thing is, men rarely ever do. Being ill is a terribly private thing. We don't have mental problems, we don't have odd pains, then we keel over into our wheatyflakes one morning with some heart condition that should have been diagnosed three years earlier.

Last thing men want to talk about is prostate cancer. I know I sure as hell don't, so I'm gonna stop now and go do some housework.

[/ QUOTE ]
I dream of getting testicular or prostate cancer.

But then I am ill in my head anyway. :'(

Only real men™ can wear pink anyhow.

Good cause, I'll happily change a cossie option or two to join in and promote the campaign.
