Primary for healer?

I have been thinking about making a charter, focused on group support. Particularly in regards to healing. And /rad look the most appealing (/Thermal being only somewhat appealing due to the single target shields). But what primary would go best with that?
Fire for the damage, dark for the debuff, or something else entirely?

Wouldn't a Thermal make a more attractive healer, since it has... more heals?

And if you're going for group support then the only primary you'd ever need is Sonic Attack.

Sonic or Ice would be decent choices alright, mainly so you can stick to single-target attacks to avoid excess aggro, provide decent attacks with good secondary effects and both have nice support / control tools in them as well in Stuns, Sleeps and Holds.

Rad is a fair bit more offenderish than thermal, but a Sonic/Rad is going to be a fairly decent "jack of all trades", very useful solo or on teams. Thermal is going to require teams a bit more.

The 2 fast recharging single target buffs in Thermal, become stressful to me. I would end up using too much time trying to keep them applied to the whole group.

As for sonic attacks, I guess I could play with the sound off , I once had a sonic/sonic corrupter and only made it to level 10 before the sounds became to annoying.

I do not mind being dependent on getting a team, it can be though at times, but that is what alts are for.

Is Thermal really that much better then Rad when in comes to group support? Even if I ditch the 2 single target shields? (to avoid the stress)

If you think applying shields every 4 minutes is stressful, then stay away from /Rad (and /Dark, for that matter). Having you anchors killed is far more annoying than buffing a team.

@Jay Leon Hart
Kerensky: this has nothing to do with underwear
Zwillinger: I put on my robe and wizard hat...
Synapse: I had to resist starting my last post off with "Yo dawg!"

The holds in ice are nice when using them to create anchors for buffing/debuffing

So far My Sonic/Thermal is level 18. And the primary appears to matter less. When the brown stuff hits the fan, using my AoE heal and anticipating who will need the ST heal most when it is ready next is kind of a full time occupation

One thing about the shields though... It can be hard to see on the team window who is still buffed, but so far I have not teamed with another /thermal, so seeing who’s charters are on fire solves that.

For anyone else though I would suggest a different primary. Most fights are simply to short to make –res matter much. But maybe that will change though when I start facing AVs.

Ye gods its not. Having been a Kinetics I've found buffing is far more tedious.

At least not in the case of Dark and Storm. Rad there's 2 of them so maybe, but to be honest its not that much work to reapply. And if things are dying you only really need to reapply Enervating Field.

In Darks case most of em will be Fearsome Stared and Tar Patched, so you don't need Darkest Night too much later in a fight usually. Snow Storm doesn't really need too much reapplying, its not that important of a debuff. And always slap the anchor powers on the Lieut (not the boss) at the back of a spawn, not the first or second chap you tab onto. They stay standing much longer if you do that since everyone else on your team will be using Control-tab as well.

You can never, ever have too much -res IMO. With Sonic focus-fire on the Boss / Elite Boss / AV.

If you really want a healer, you might try waiting for Pain Domination in issue 13.

For choice of primary, you want to look for something with good debuffs and mezzes if you want to focus on a support role. I think Ice/Pain would be my choice.

I really should do something about this signature.
