Payload Customisation

Ivce noticed you can only customise weapons and thats it, but the next step in the chain of customisations leading up to power customisation is what I see as 'payload Customisation'

This may be fairly simple, or fairly hard, but i think we should customise such objects below and be able to colour tint them too:

GRENADES
Standard
Dynamite
Tech
Bomb

ARROWS
Standard
Wooden Arrow
Tech Arrow
Talsorian Arrow
Rularuu Arrow

SHURIKENS
Standard
Circular Saw Blade
Coral Shard
3 point star
5 point star
6 point star

These are just the basic ones I can think of, I'm sure theres more and feel free to offer some up


A total of 14 of my nerves have been harmed in the making of this post...

Logically, this should be easier to do than full power customisation since I'd assume the projectile model is seperate from the impact model (which is the bit they currently can't change).

Can't see the point of changing the arrows, you barely see them anyway. The multiple shuriken styles seem a bit, um, pointless, though I could see the variants, like the sawblade.

The other reason for not doing the arrows is that they do have an impact animation. Your rularuu arrow (whatever that is) would become a normal arrow once it was sticking out of the target.

I'm not sure it is - I can see the arrow animation (arrow-shaped fx flying from point X on the firer to the target) using the exact same mechanism and being just as baked in as (say) a fireball animation (fireball-shaped fx flying from point X on the firer to the target).

The actual fx might be a bit simpler for some of the weapon animations but having to duplicate the entire set for a different look, then keep it synchronised as future changes are made, would still be an issue.

Yep, it could well be. I just don't know. It's possible it isn't baked in, it could well be as well.

Short of red name input we'll never know for sure, but in the interests of coding simplicity it seems likely they'd try not to have multiple power animation systems if they could do everything they need with one.

Given what BAB has said about spines, I would say custom projectile apperence isn't realistic.

I thought the Spines issue was more to do with my comment about the arrows: that they would revert to the default form when left sticking out of the target.

I'm prepared to be corrected on that. I don't have the most perfect of memories.

My recollection (similarly imperfect) was that they could have allowed customisation of "sticking out of the caster's body" part of the power, but they would have reverted to the default form as soon as they started flying through the air.

Thats what he said. The projectiles couldn't be customised (also one of the reasons we aren't going to be able to throw shields).

All these things in theory must be possible else how who they excist at all, surely the problem is the amount of re-animation and coding involved. If someone gets hit by Power_Fireball and bursts into flames why not Power_Fireball (x) and burst into flames (x) (where x = a colour code), yes a whole new set of animations would need to be burned and code applied to correctly choose and apply them but it is hardley beyond the realms of possability.

True, when I say "not possible", I really mean not achieveable without major changes to game code (and the associated time and money).

Myself I would also prefer that Dev time to be spent on New fearures/ Powers / Mission coding etc
