I agree it is a great game, you can be as casual as you like or go hardcore and grind it out to 50 in no time.
Unfortunately due to lack of finances, cost of household bills getting a bit high. So something had to go and I'm having to cancel my subs
Now if only the character creation wasn't so involved my hubby would have played...but like he said he doesn't want to spend hours on creating a character. So it would be nice if at some time you could choose between a quick creation mode and the normal complex one most of us love.

Yea totally agree with the OP which why I'm still here after 42 months (my brains too asleep to convert this into years...3 years and 6 months...it woke up). In this time I too have tried various MMORPG's and none hook me as much as CoX SWG when down the pan and was too much grind for me, WoW pretty much the same and just didn't like it, Lineage 2 left me lost and just plain bored and everything else I can't remember didn't do anything for me. I have just started playing GW again and quite enjoying it but think that'll whine in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to WAR but the samething will probably happen, I log in and go "oooh thats cool...thats nice" make a couple of toons and then get bored and go back to CoX.
It has since day 1 fitted me like a glove, even with the additions of PvP (Meh) and inventions (which I enjoy - to my own person shock). As I've said over and over again I just love the costume designer, powers and just the freedom of being able to make/do what I want. I can wear something that suits my toon and looks good rather than having to worry about it not being as good as another piece of equipment or whether or not it'll break in my next mission.
CoX FTW!
@SkullFester
I'm not changing this signature until I'm proclaimed 'King of the World'.
The casual factor's something I love about CoX.
My friend plays WoW, and he plays it a lot. Then he comes to tell me about the other day where he did an event that took about six hours, and lost sleep.
I then went on to tell him about logging on for fifteen minutes, quickly forming a sg team, then doing a couple of missions.
I just really enjoy the basic gameplay more than any other MMO I've ever played (quite a few in the last ten years) - that's why this is the only MMO I've ever re-subscribed to. This makes the gameplay fun, rather than a repetitive grind (sure, all MMOs are repetitive, but the gameplay in this is less repetitive than most I find).

Do you know what I would put that down to. The diversty in Charecter creation. You made a 1/X choice and it came good for you (where X is greater in CoX than any other game)
Well...
CoH was my first MMO and I lucked out, it is a very good game, but I have to say I don't think it's as good as people are saying. What I can agree with is the OP's comment on the community. What kept the game interesting was the roleplay I was involved in and I really cancelled my subs when that fell apart. That and the fact I was bored silly and never played it.
So I went off and played LotRO and enjoyed that, but frankly the roleplay was lesbian elves and I hit level cap in about 4 months to discover there was nothing to do when you got there. (I hear it's improved, but nothing I've heard of has tempted me back.)
So I tried WoW again having heard that they had made some changes i liked. I did a 2 day trial (well, 7 days, but I played 2) a while back and hated it, but I got into it more and enjoyed levelling my mage, only to discover that, at level cap, all I had to do was daily grind quests.
So, here I am back in CoX after about 450 days. They had added a load of new content in that time, so something new to look at. For a game people think is great for team play, this is the best solo game around. Hit level cap in most MMOs and solo play becomes either non-existant or boring. I can still go out with my main and only level 50 and go do interesting things on my own. Back in WoW, I would need a team of 5 to have any form of interesting activities.
All round, CoX is a very good game and I'll likely keep coming back to it. I'll go back to WoW for Wrath, but that's somehow not quite the same as a game which adds a bucket of new content for you to enjoy just for the price of the subscription.
And, yes, no one has beaten the character creation in this game. It is the best bar none.

Well, I suppose that's ok - female same-sex relationships didn't feature that much in the books.

Being serious, that was the problem. The majority of players on the roleplay servers had never read the books. Quite a lot of them hadn't seen the films either as best anyone could tell.

That's a factor, yeah - being an Explorer-Achiever type player (by Bartle type) CoH/V keeps me interested because there are so many powersets, and different synergies when you put them together, that I find new tactics all the time which keeps me interested - and levelling is fast enough that I always feel like I'm making good progress and have the chance to explore many more archetypes/powersets than in most other MMOs. In fact until WoW & CoH/V I wasn't much of an altaholic - generally I'd have one main character that got 95% of my online time and maybe an alt or two to muck about with but not seriously level. Often it was dispiriting to find that your sole main character that you'd been playing for years was nerfed into uselessness or just not needed in the high-end game - I never get that feeling here.
CoH/V's ragdoll physics, plethora of knockback/repel and other "manipulative" powers, that you can use terrain to your advantage in combat, and the fact we generally face more enemies than the number of players in our teams, is also refreshing when you've come from MMOs where combat is basically a team of players in a field/dungeon stood around one monster for ages just hitting it with swords/sticks or magic (i.e. the majority of other MMOs).
This game is very good and does do a lot of stuff that other games don't. Stuff that makes you go "duh, that's such an obvious necessity, why don't other games have it?"
It could do with some serious tweaking though. We need more variety in map tilesets and better AI.
Could do with more choice in everything too, from what we say to contacts to the number of colours we can have on single pieces of our costumes.

Nah... you see these are all 2nd generation MMOs, it'll all be different once the "Revolutionary" 3rd generation MMOs come out like Vanguard and Age of Co... oh... erm...hmmm...
Well! You just wait to the revolutionary 4th Generation MMOs come out... they'll be completely... oh, *#@$ it, yeah ok, your right.

One AI thing that puzzles me is that enemies armed with ranged weapons seem very keen to fight you hand to hand
I understand it for Freaks and Trolls, who seem to like brawling more, but for ones like the Council, it seems weird that they don't fire and retreat then fire again and so on.

Yeah I must admit I'd be a lot more excited about I13 if it had tons more instance tilesets (at least one unique tileset or at least a custom skin for every faction) that would be retrofitted to old mission content, and maybe a new faction too (with different AI/tactics to all the existing ones).
I play CoX and WoW (both for RP now really...)
But I'll be fair, I play WoW more for the combat. I've just grown tired of CoX's dull and limp combat system. What hits me as "Boring" is when both you and your enemy have both used all their attacks and are now waiting for recharges. It feels awkward, dull and stalls the otherwise fluidity of combat. That's what I like about WoW, and the upcoming Champions Online is that there's an attack that is ALWAYS up and keeps the fluid action going. Brawl just doesn't cut it for me... it's hardly useful in any way, especially at higher levels.
Not that I don't like CoH anymore, and this Mission Creator may be what gets me to lvl 50 after these long years, but I'm most probably going to change to CO if it grabs me. If not, I'm sticking here.

What level is your highest Alt Sprawler?
I can't think of many alts I have that after about lvl 25 have at least one combat power available at all times even during a major fight and when teaming the action rarely stops as even sypport alts have somehing they should be don't.
