Cant Log Some Characters In

yes, at the moment the same thing has happend to a level 22 blaster of mine, it loads 20% of talos and then crash.
my main, a 50 tanker is not affected.
im gonna check which else are affected

Well it is nice to know that at least I am not alone

Can't log in three of my characters. Both are stationed in Talos, so wondering if there's a connection...

Well I have discovered that I have 3 that I cant login 1 in Pocket D and 2 in Talos.
Hope you have all petitioned.

Having a had quick browse on the US forums I noticed a thread about crashes related to the contents of the Supergroup MotD.
I have 4 characters in a particular supergroup and they all crash out. Whilst my characters in other Supergroups do not crash out.

My whole groups has found that any of our toons in the same SG all crash out. It only affects one known SG that we're in and not the others....

The support team has been investigating this issue and been able to reproduce the problem.
The issue can be resolved for affected Supergroups once a member of the SG (preferably the leader) petitions to report the problem.
Now theres the catch 22 GR, none of us in the SG can log in a SG toon since we KEEP CRASHING!
we can petition from alts not in the SG, or out of game like this on the forum. (both of which we have done)
but we are unable to use any SG toon to report the problem

You know... I'm in an SG that actually has a full URL in it's MOTD, and I was able to log in just fine last night...

You know ... the supergroup message of the day has been erased by support this morning and I can now log in my characters .
The supergroup motd was rather long and had lots of spurious characters.

You can send a petition using the web based Knowledge Base (link through from the Support page in my sig).
Support have let me know that they're traced the issue to the use of special characters (eg ; - ) ) in Supergroup MOTD's.
Those affected can send in a petition and support will remove the SG MOTD, which will prevent the crash from occurring.
In the meantime, we strongly suggest that non-standard characters not be used in MOTDs until the bug is resolved.

Just because it works for you doesn't mean its the same for everyone (as with your ongoing forum problems). Their URLs might have % characters in them or something (URLEncoded path or parameters) which clash with some formatting rules in the messaging system. Or & parameter seperators causing a similiar effect.
So basically... It's a recurrence of an identical problem that happened a couple of months ago?

Actually, there wasn't a URL in the SG MOTD that support was able to verify caused characters to crash out. They're still investigating to find out what the exact cause is, however it is likely due to special characters or specific combinations of special characters.
The problem before was tracked down to the presence of a colon IIRC. People were putting smilies in their MOTD's and that was crashing them.

Wouldn't it be easier for support to just wipe all MotD?

No, not really. Not to mention it'd be a bit rude removing MOTD's from SG's that aren't affected .
Thanks GR. I know we don't have any smilies in our motd but there may have been a couple of semi colons. Hopefully some one will have reported it by the time I get home. So I won't have to .

I know we have semi-colons and colons in my SG motd on redside, because I like using them (as far as I'm concerned they're the punctuation equivalent of an endangered species and need proliferating, heh); but I can log-in characters just fine. Admittedly part of the motd does show up as a link when I mouse over it (when I know very well it's not a link), but I've never clicked on it; not after hearing about all the crashes that happened to players that did a couple of months ago.
Though if that does turn out to be the problem then the Devs had better fix it fast. The last thing we need is players being actively encouraged to miss out punctuation; a trend like that could endanger my sanity 
It's a good job we don't have playable Rikti EATs - can you imagine trying to type out the motd in an all-Rikti SG without using colons? 
Since this mornings patch on one of my accounts I now find that I cant log 2 of my characters in, the client starts to load the zone that they were left in and then promptly crashes, asking me what I was doing and then exits to the desktop. It does the same in safe mode as well. I can also log in some other characters on the same account with no problem. I have petitioned this as well.
Any one else getting this problem?
