MMO Art?

Anyone else on here been stictched up by MMO Art at all? I managed to get a finished jpeg of the art I commisioned of him, but no physical print of it, despite me asking for the invoice to pay for it several months ago.

Seems a looooot of people have been left hanging in the air with deposits paid and nothing to show for it!

Very disappointed with this, I really wanted this artowrk for my wall, now I have to settle for it as a desktop background instead Maybe I should print out the jpeg instead.

Anyone else been left in the lurch?

Heh, no worries.

I stuck that original post up for anyone that may have stuff outstanding with MMO Art, but this side of the pond doesn't seem to be as badly affected. I've been done up a like kipper as well as my colour piece from last year is sitting now as a detailed pencil and I've given up hope of seeing it finished. And I had to keep prodding him to even get it that far.

I actually contacted one of the other artists that in that thread last week to see if I could get a new piece done from scratch, but they've not replied either so I'm a bit weary of the whole thing now.

I haven't ordered anything from MMO Art and don't intend to but reading all 14 pages of that thread made me feel the anger that many are waiting. Waiting in a queue for years to get a drawing is garbage, I say. They should either get a refund or get their art done. Or at least get some communication from Gill. I love the idea of MMO Art, gives some community spirit. But, it's just become poor service.

I hope Gill's ok, and I hope MMO Art is still going on - but it seems most have given up right about now. Don't get me on the wrong side, Gill sounds like a nice guy - but when you spend thousands of dollars on a picture and wait for years to get it, is that what you call "good" service? Not me.

I acknowledge the fact that he may be having problems, but it would be nice if we could have just one bit of communication. As for Gill himself? Kudos to you for doing this and spending time on it. But we need to know that you're there, mate.

Hmmmm.../endpost

I'm all the more frustrated as my artwork was finished, I got the jpeg of it and posted it here back in January!

Since then, I've been trying to get an invoice so I could pay for the final thing and habe been let down, nowe I've spent £50 on a well drawn jpeg

Personally, I think it's gone beyond the point were people should be giving MMOArt any kind of benefit of the doubt. He's failed to respond to customers who have paid a LOT of money up front for work, so has essentially defrauded them. IMO, customers of his need to consider contacting the authorities at this point.

The man is running a business, not a charity, and thus has certain legal obligations.

^ That.

Sure, he's a good artist - but no artist is good enough to effectively rob people of their money and provide nothing, not even an explanation why in return.

Agreed. It's well beyond caring if he's having trouble in his private life.

If he can't finish the work, then he needs to give people their money back or he's a thieving *******.

Agreed,

Reading between the lines I think basically what has happened is the business had grown to accomodate the demand incorporating some other artists that had different styles (like the artist who did KnightStalkers charasmatic piece) and then some artists have left the business leaving him with a larger workload - overextended himself as it were. There is a halt on the artwork queue at the moment.
I get the impression from the latest blog updates that this is what has possibly happened, they are also advertising for artists on the main site.
I wish him well with the business but clearly the cogs are not running smoothly at the mo. Personally I think he needs to delegate the business and get back to what he obviously loves doing - the artwork , hard to do I know when operating a small business.

Such a shame. I've been waiting for them to get their act together and work through their massive queue for a while now before commissioning a piece of my main hero, but it's been almost 3 months now since they've updated the site. They could at least make a post and let people know what's going on. Why did they shut down their forum?

I 200% agree with this post.

Don't get me wrong, I believe in giving people a second chance and all - but this problem has been going on for way too long and needs to come to a stop.

But I think it's a bit rude to call him a thieving *******.

Well, I said if he doesn't return all their money.

Even if that did happen I still think it would be rude, for all we know he might be dead, if he has a acceptable and reasonable reason why he isn't doing it then we do not need to throw stuff at him.

But I am still with the majority who are angry and/or dissapointed, he has teh l33t skillz, but if he can't do that for his customers then he is just as bad as a scammer but there is no reason to be insulting to him. I wouldn't insult a scammer, mostly because 1. it's stupid 2. it doesn't get you "respect" and 3. because the scammer might have a good reason for scamming. Yes I would treat a homeless scammer fairly because they need money. If he effictively doing this for a personal reason, I totally understand that. The modern world is unfair to people who can't live in it.

Erm...?!

Anyways, hope everyone gets their refunds. Looks like the man has artistic talent, but needs a bod with a calculator to run things. I'll carry on getting my art at the UK Cons

As far as I can remember, he didn't run the company anyway - his wife did.

Yup, he did the art, she handled the business.

Ah, cool. Had a picture in my mind of a bloke frantically scribbling, screwing up the paper, muttering to himself and hurling it into the bin time after time.

Cracking art though. For a long time I was umm-ing and ahh-ing on making inquiries.

Well, either way, hope it's all sorted soon, and good luck to them.

That is the best thing I've heard all day.

But database error? I'm not sure a home company has a giant database...

I sincerely doubt it's hosted from a home server.

True, but a database error wouldn't have prevented them from getting in touch with their customers. They had every chance to let anyone know, via the CoH forums and other forums for the games they play. And I sincerely doubt they don't have anyone they can contact to let everyone know what's happening.

Database error =/= bad customer service.

Very good point.

However, I want to believe they really are trying to "make amends" and fix this mess.

...
Definitely a reason why I don't want to get paid for any pics I draw. I'd dissapoint and infuriate people in the same way...

Yup. While it's good news that people won't be losing their money, MMOArt have probably lost alot of potential business because of their poor service.
