Prestige bonus for street hunting
Welcome to the forums.
It does sound pretty logical, given that debt earned by non-instance map defeats is much greater than instance missions, representing (I think, whether it's what the all-powerful Dev's were thinking I don't pretend to know) a more public defeat and subsequent humiliation.
I think that your reasons make the idea logical, although it may lead to street-sweep farming for SG's clearing mobs with abandon if the scaler is set too high. Maybe even 1.1x or 1.2x would work? Not so high that street mobs would be farmable, and not so puny as to make it not worth the effort, either.
I'd like to see it happen, at any rate.

This would be a good thing (obviously not too OPed but a viable option for people instead of instances), it'd be nice to have a bit of buzz in zones again. I love street hunting with certain toons (currently my Warshade) so if there were more Hunting teams it'd be great for me.
True, true indeed Carnifax. I do now find the mental image of a full team or several teams of SGers charging about in full SG colours bringing a little more justice to the streets instead of ignoring mobs between instances. Or for redside, killteams of Villains running around reminding the Isles just who is in charge.
Gods... the imagery...
This idea gets my seal of approval.
Right now there are no reasons to street-sweep, except for the odd hunt mish, or to get badges, and to give a little incentive to do so would be great.
I, too, enjoy a bit of street-sweeping on some of my toons, so yes, well and truly /SIGNED

You know a thing like this IS allready implemented in the game. Every time a hero saves someones purse that person gives his or her thanks and the hero gets some influence for the effort.
Still, it is a good idea to make the streethunt more livier. Someone mentioned the idea that with streethunts you could open new missions concerning that particular group.
For example, grabbing a skull purse snatcher could lead to a mission where the skulls try to fence their stolen goods to a fence. Rewards could be fun missions, extra prestige for those missions and or new badges to hunt.
Or it could trigger an area event. For example killing enough trolls in Skyway seling superadine might trigger the skyway Raving Supertrolls.

I quite like this idea, might give people a reason to show off in public a bit more and make the different areas feel a bit more alive.

Well that would be a bit hard top explain wouldnt it? after all a villain doesnt care about 'helping' people nor would that do a thing for his reputation. Of course he could [censored] the purse himself but lets be honest [censored] pursing is so low class paragon city petty crime.
But here to aditional rewards could be given. Like the place where the villains hid their illgotten goods so you can liberate them for some more noble cause, like yourself.
villains could be getting the same effect while killing an Arachnos in a public place...

Villains gain Infamy, so I think they should have a random chance to get an inf/pres boost just by defeating/killing whole spawns of enemies, as it publicly shows their brutality making them more infamous.
As to the original idea, I really like it! It'd liven up the game more and give a good reason to do a part of the game which is overlooked after level 15ish. Plus it'd put some extra life in Supergroups in terms of personal events and teamwork.
Three thumbs up!

Surely a villain street sweeping just goes to show how much of a bad [censored] you are?
Or anyone in a public place.

I know citizens give little bonuses when rescued but I was thinking more in terms of a SG building its reputation by doing very public things. Hence the prestige boost as opposed to gifts from thankful victims.
Re: farming, the only thing it would change is how cool your base could be, so farming would probably stay in missions. I can imagine SGs organising zone hunts in the way some organise task forces now, with the added benefit of drop in/drop out flexibility.
Man I would love to see this. Whole teams of people in the same colours clearing Atlas Park from the Hellions. (Yeah I know, nobody would do it, Hellions are too low)
I like the idea very much

I like this idea very much, giving you deeper insight into the mobs and how they work. Great idea.
As for the OP, again brilliant idea, showing a sense of civic Duty...another signature added.

+1 Great idea. If new players arrive in Atlas and see nothing but baddies' body-parts flying around as squads of high-levels fight to keep the streets clean, it's really going to excite you - nothing motivates you to climb the ladder like seeing the high-level powers in action.
You could rank SGs based on their members' contributions to keeping that zone/area clean - or villain groups staking a claim for their own turf. You could even add an extra button to the SG/Team menu for Enter Hunt Mode that makes all minions in the zone that otherwise con blue or below to you con white, Lieuts yellow, bosses orange etc etc. but you can only earn prestige, not XP, inf, salvage or recipes so that you can hunt in any zone and make it worth your while without making it too farmarific. As a low-level alt-a-holic, I'd love to be able to holler on the Hunt channel that I've fallen in the Gulch and can't get out, only to find 8 identically-coloured shining knights come piling over the horizon clearing a path to the gate for me. It would also reinvigorate the GMs since they're no longer just a badge waiting to happen - Nobody wraps flails a tentacle at a warehouse in <insert SG name>'s town! Get 'er!
I would disagree with repeated beat-downs spawning missions though - this defeats the purpose of enhancing street-hunts, you're taking people off the streets and back into instances. Although you could spawn zone events - fires, riots, maybe have a GM-style boss make a run for it across the city to an escape vehicle or a live zone bank robbery. Or maybe go less violent, more heroic - saving people from burning buildings, lifting fallen trees off cars, getting cats out of trees.
One thing that's always bothered me is how easy it is to walk away from an NPC that calls for help. If you get close enough that they see you, the NPC should be able to ask for your help by name - and you lose influence if you don't help (ie losing face by chickening out of a fight). Stops you being a coward, and teaches you those all-important mob-avoidance skills that you used to get from the Hollows pre-jetpacks.
Nice ideas, not sure how peeps would take the penalty for not helping out those in trouble, it's still a game, and balance is about making it fun AND challenging. Having to either face or avoid every mob between here and wherever I'm going would drive me, and I'm sure a fair few others, nuts :P
Like the contextual cries for help though, that would be cool, just as I'd like all the civilians in Mercy to Cower or run when I take my level 50 through there.
It has been mentioned that the game relies too heavily on instances, and having a zone based task, much like the rikti assaults, is an exciting and brilliant idea.
Still love the idea of the mob triggered missions though, you dont have to accept them, and you lose nothing for leaving them be, but I like following the stories, and it adds an extra dimension to the mobs
Lol yeah I love the idea of getting cats out of trees....punch the tree...wormhole the cat...confuse the cat...confuse the tree....infamy (edit; sorry: influence, showing my villainous ways) for innovation

Like this idea!
What would also be great is if the "grey's" could give out prestige too.... Otherwise new players wouldn't be impressed by the awesome sight of an SG clearing the streets - Unless they were powerlevelling in Peregrine Island.
Perhaps this is another good reason to consider applying the same code to Street mobs, as we do with the Rikti during invasions...No more grey FTW

I like this idea far more - it's something I've wanted for a long time. Missions triggered by chance in outdoor zones based on your actions.
What if the Hellion-caused fires in Steel were expanded to all zones with Hellions - defeating any Hellion in the zone could have a small chance (1-2% maybe) of you finding out their plan to burn down a building in the current zone. A timer starts, something short like 5-10mins, before the fire starts so you can go and try to stop it (instanced mission), but if you fail the building catches fire as normal and the instanced mission becomes one to rescue trapped civilians inside and then put out the fires from the outside.
What if Police Station raids and Bank robberies could happen in outdoor zones? Defeating any villain in the zone could give a chance to reveal their faction's plan to carry out a raid/robbery, unlocking the instance for you to go in and stop them, again with a timer. Perhaps the instance is locked to you and your group for the first 5mins, but after that it becomes a free-for-all and any hero can zone in to stop the bad guys (alarms could go off in the building and PPD could spawn outside the door as an indicator it was being robbed/raided - this could happen randomly anyway). For CoV-side perhaps defeating a RIP or Arachnos outdoors would give you the access codes to a bank so you could go rob it - you could do the same with Crey for a warehouse robbery, or Longbow to go in and steal information from one of their bases to sell to Arachnos.
There are tons more things they could do to add more variety to street-hunting and make both heroes and villains feel a bit more pro-active about their character's place in the world, rather than just being reactive or under the orders of a contact.
Great ideas. I used to street-hunt quite a bit, but it's just not worth the long-term effort these days if you want your character to get anywhere, especially at higher levels.

I still do on some characters when solo, mainly for a change or for badges/merits, but at higher levels I find it much MUCH faster xp (and for some odd reason better loot) than doing missions, because:
a) it saves you zoning time, especially when missions send you to other zones,
b) you cut out travel time between missions/contacts,
c) spawns tend to be bigger and closer together with more bosses (if you pick a good spot),
d) mission/arc completion bonus xp at high level tends to be so trivial compared to what you get from defeating enemies.
I still prefer missions most of the time though, because of the stories and the extra variety and tactics needed to deal with the EBs/AVs and scripted events they have (ambushes, mainly).

I had a thought this morning and decided to sign up to the forums to try and get some feedback on it. Haven't found it in search so here goes!
What if enemies defeated in city zones (as opposed to instanced maps) gave double prestige? Or 1.5x... I don't do base design so I don't know what scale would work best. It would represent the more public actions of a supergroup, saving citizens on the street as opposed to battling robots in a parallel dimension, which Bob the Citizen won't have seen. Sound ok?
