Not one of the main characters though; not sure if he would be trademarked / copyright protected?

[/ QUOTE ]

He would be trademarked/IP but you cannot copyright names. I've quoted the book Legend by David Gemmell and the film of the same name starring David Bowie... same title totally different products.

[/ QUOTE ]

David Bowie was in Legend?

Are you sure you're not confusing it with Labyrinth? Tom Cruise was in Legend, along with a big red scary demon (who was still far less scary than Bowies Goblin King Hair-and-bulging-tights ensemble)

[/ QUOTE ]

Ack, you're spot on and the big red devil was Tim Curry (Frankenfurter)

You are correct if the IP is clearly a different product, stories or in a different context, however If both 'Legend' names were relating to two different superheroes I think you would find that would be a red rag to a bull for most company lawyers.
That said its hard because no-one owns the name legend as its a historical description as opposed to a made-up name such as Gazerbeam.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah and to muddy the waters further, take Squadron Supreme. They are Mavel rips of DC IP, Hyperion, Nighthawk et al. Hell in JMS' reload they even take the proverbial out of their DC counterparts, yet nobody seems to blink at that

That was Tim Curry?!? I never figured that out (but looking back inow its flaming obvious).

I require the solace of the shadows and the dark of the night. Sunshine is my destroyer

Tim Curry utterly owned that role, like nothing i've seen before or since. He's pretty funny in most stuff he does, even the stuff where he parodys villains in The Naked Gun movies or that turkey 'Charlies Angels'.
In 'Legend' he shone through all those prothetics like they weren't even an issue, and the filter they put over his great vocal acting only enhanced what was an astonishing performance.

Ok to steer this thread gently back on track:

A Sonic/Plant troller or Dom: Sonic Bloom

A fairy themed sonic character: Lou Fey.
Any lizard-themed character of magic origin: The Man-Drake
Power-levelled empath: Doctor without Badges
Any British-themed hero: The Cliff of Dover (Yes, yes. Cheesy, I know.)

I thought of somebody who might have a big thing against the Snakes:

Elec/elec brute: Assault and Battery

Probobly too long though, maybe Assault'n'Battery...

When Villains went live and then sometime after when I was actually running AP through the Praetorian arc I came up with the following 'alternate' characters:

Sista Dista - Mind/Psi Dom - she was a Hollywood starlet gone mad from the chemical implants (tiny frame with chest slider to 11)

Zombie Senator - SS/Inv Brute - The result of what happened to Statesman after a particularly eventful encounter with the Banished Pantheon and the Circle of Thorns. His F10 battle cry was 'Mmmm... brains'

Maybetron - Rad/Rad Corruptor - an inept scientist crippled by his inability to make decisions. He joined with other villains to get his revenge on...yada yada yada

Sinclair C5 - Ninjas/TA MM - Playboy about town, Justin Sinclair, spent all of his inheritance on developing a ridiculous nuclear-powered car, which never sold, and so took to a life of crime in order to pay back his creditors.

On the flip side, I never made him but Mister Popularity was going to be Lord Recluse (Illusion/FF Controller - he had a lonely childhood and so made some imaginary friends to play with which, through the power of magic, became real. Or at least illusionary...)

His girlfriend, Emo Grrl (Dark/Dark Defender) was Ghost Widow. She just liked wearing black and white a lot.

It was, as you may have already guessed, a very long and bored weekend. It's a shame I didn't keep the screenies.

***

Yes, still sharing - my current two favourites are:

Queen Bea and her son, Beetle Boy. Yes they are insect themed!

I've used the following names which may or may not now be in use:

Psionara - Any Mind Control/Psychic character

Toxic Sally - A very tall woman: Toxic (Rad, Poison etc). Sally = Long Tall Sally: a clothes shop for women akin to High and Mighty for men.

Ionos - I'm actually thinking of reviving him. He was my first proper hero. Similar names could be Stratos, Tropos, Exos, Mesos, Thermos - all shortened from terms used to describe the layers of Earth's atmosphere.

I have a current scrapper called Flambelle who was born out of my Midnight Rose: Skulls story (shameless plug! ) who, thanks to issue 12, is Fire/Fire. Photon Girl from the same story is a FF/Energy defender.

That is all

Arctic and Imoba great names too

one thing that you've touched on Arctic, is the use of ancient Greek in names, and I'm not by any means an expert on the classics so my knowledge/input is limited but your Atmosphere segment rekindled that

I've also thought of a male and female variant of hard core rock 'n' roller heroes, in the tradition of Gene Vincent and Gene Simmonds

Gene Sequence

and

Jean Sequins

- The Italian Job: The Godfather Returns #1151
Beginner - Encounter a renewed age for the Mook and the Family when Emile Marcone escapes from the Zig!
- Along Came a... Bug!? #528482
Average - A new race of aliens arrives on Earth. And Vanguard has you investigate them!
- The Court of the Blood Countess: The Rise of the Blood Countess #3805
Advanced - Go back in time and witness the birth of a vampire. Follow her to key moments in her life in order to stop her! A story of intrigue, drama and horror! Blood & Violence... not recommend to solo!

Hmmm here is some names i used to use but not on live servers anymore and i will not likey do them again.

Desert Marauder:
BS/WP scrapper (as arabian scimitar tho)

Bubble Pop Electric:
FF/Elec defender named after a Gwen Stefani song.

Paragon Belle :
A frozen in time and re awaken woman who had a crush on Statesman. With her 30's like outfit and AR she was a nice looking blaster.

Devil's Chant:
Originally he was my first Sonic/Elec blaster who hit the lvl 20. Thinking now it is more close to a Sonic/Dark or Dark/Sonic or Fire/Sonic troller/defender.

Grasshooper Boy and Toxic Roach:
My two early days beetle themed heroes (even way before the insect wings and all that bug boys around). As you can guess Grasshooper Boy was a MA/something scrapper with SJ. Toxic Roach was a Rad/Rad defender.

Lone Crane:
Hot looking female martial artist now in the depths of mental garbage. Even tho my current scrapper is a MA/WP her name is Lady Gravestrike and has more nice background story.

Canadian Storm:
Storm/Ice defender try. If you are into Canadians like me nice to play with one. (I hope this ain't sound as kinky as i think )

Godess of Love:
My first ever Mind/* troller.

And lastly a name i can't make a hero to fit available on the Union server as i write this post: Elemental Chaos.

I know there is a player (at least his nick in forums something like that) in US soils.

Actually list can go on and on as i make at least 2 new heroes each day and delete them. I will drop by and serve you another names if i remember somethings good.

Had this one on US servers but its taken on EU union -
Badly Dressed Man - a man with such terrible dress sense he causes panic, hysteria and catatonia simply by walking in a room. Believes however, that he is a fashion guru. (Controller)

Boneo, probably a spines scrapper

CanU, just because I want to see "CanU, can u..." Sad, isn't it?

why can't we use names of characters in other comics? DC and Marvel both have Captain Marvel. I know Marvel is the only one allowed to have a comic called that, but they each have a character with that name, and both companies have a Scarecrow and Sandman as well.

anyway, here's a name or 2:
Knockoff Nigel-he illegally downloads films, thus making him the most evil man on the planet and worthy of everyone he knows mocking him (according to the advert)
Donna Matrix-a dominatrix type, maybe a mind/thorns dominator?
Hot House-a plant/thermal controller (alternate name HotPlants)

@craggy see me on Union for TFs, SFs (please!) or just some good ol fashioned teaming.

Other Short answer: Contravenes EULA

(Besides, as you've seen from this thread and others the imagination of the playerbase is often as good or better than anything either place come up with.)
