yet compare like for like builds and rupters fall short. That just places fire or ice as the only viable damage sets what about the rest? When rupters are meant to be the main range damage AT in villains ???
I do understand that rupters are able to do a lot of damage but that statement is only true for a few sets not ALL sets. All to often in threads like these ppl are really keen to point that out, yet it leaves other builds struggling like some guilty secret that shouldn't be talked about.
I see what you mean. I prefer to play combinations which aren't possible the other way around (no dark/dark, sonic/rad's etc). I hate thinking "this is fun, but on a defender I would be a lot more uber with my damaging secondary powerset".

No, not all corruptors do what Fire/Kin does damage wise, of course, but, errr, not all defenders do what Rad/Psi does either.
Oddly enough I've found my Dark/Dark, Sonic/Sonic and Fire/Dark to be heaps more fun than any combo of */Kin I've tried, though I have kept my Fire/Kin due to concept. Okay so Dark/* isn't the quickest killer, but all that -Acc meant Posi, Manti and so many others couldn't hardly touch me.
Fire/Dark is a given for fun though, at level 12 decimating 8-man multi-aggro'd mobs with Tar Patch, Rain of Fire and Fire Breath just feels like you typed in GodMode some afternoons.

Then what are these other rupters doing as they ain't do the same in buffs and debuffs as defenders either.

ok so your argument is that Corruptors are a poor mans defender. When you take one of the defender primaries which produces high damage for defenders, it produces high damage for corruptors, only Corruptors have better sets to make use of them (AR and Fire for AOE, Cold for ST). Thermal is arguably more damage oriented than its defender counterpart (empathy) due to its debuffs, and Cold is much more powerful and interesting than its defender counterpart (bubbles). I know which AT I prefer... and it ain't those weak [censored] defenders.

Trying to compare ATs side by side is a little silly; Tankers and Brutes, Scrappers and Stalkers, Controllers and Dominators. Some may look the same, but they are to be played differently.
In the end you're never better off rolling a defender, I mean they get 'Vigilance'.

but thats the point im making in rolling say a sonic/sonic defender you are way better of doing that, than say a sonic/sonic rupter. But it shouldn't be that way, a rupter should at least be bring a lot more damage than it already is, and I don't see how its silly to compare when in this case you can compare like for like. I think introducing brutes/tank comparison will just confuse the matter even farther.
Vigilance is a bit [censored] but you need to add in defenders other inherent of irresistable debuffs AND higher buffs plus that inherent. Scourge hits in after the target is at 50% but you get no guarantee that it will until the target is at such low health that a normal hit would kill it anyway!!!!Scourge I have notice is much more affective on fast animation powers, less so on slow ones.
Plus to further add insult to injury I understand BU on a defender adds even more damage to their powers. But I haven t seen figures for this. And it does seem odd as a rupter caps at 500% and a defender at 400%, but it is a lot harder for a rupter to get there than a defender.
Anyway I have said what I wanted to say and hopefully its bought it out into the open which is really all I wanted to do apart from that I would just be repeating myself.

Corruptors base damage figures are higher than a defenders. In your example of sonic/sonic, a corruptor does on average 15/20% more damage per blast than a defender. A defender has a 20% resistance debuff, the corruptor has a 15% resistance debuff, in practice these are equal debuffs for the corruptor and defender due to the corruptors higher base damage. If a corruptors debuffs were higher it would completely skew the villains game as pretty much everyone in villains is a damage dealer, unlike heroes where the roles are more defined. Also it would imbalance the game if corruptor buffs were too high as you would then have high damage characters buffed to the max all of the time.
I might be totally wrong here but i seem to recall that fenders debuffs are only unresitable in PvP? And event then just a few not all their debuffs?
For PvP i agree with most of what you say, having gone up against a few defenders with my corr and finding not only do they debuff me more than i do they also do higher damage.
For PvE the whole discussion is kinda pointless since you cant roll a defender villain side, and corruptors are the best AT to have in any team. Even in RWZ teams corruptors seem to do way better than fenders.

There are no unresistable Debuffs in PvE, just in PvP.
Defender: Higher Buff-/Debuffvalues and Vigilance.
Corruptor: Higher Basedamage and Scourge.
Seems fine.

Its not Build Up, its Power Build Up. Not every Defender chooses the Power Mastery Pool.
Most Defenders won't reach their Damage Cap with exception of Kin/ and Sonic/.
Likewise most Corrs won't reach their Cap. /Kin and /Sonic will reach it as fast/easy as their Defender-Counterpart.
For anyone who thinks corruptors would underperform I have only one advice:
Build a team consisting purely of corrruptors. If corruptors were an underperforming AT this team should be very, very meh.
Switch to any difficulty. The relults are invariably the same.
Watch in amazement how anything that gets into this team's path including GMs, AVs and Heroes gets disintegrated in mere moments.
After seeing this team, this engine of death, in action come back and try telling me with a straight face that corruptors underperform.
And in case that your test results are any worse than mine I can tell you that it is most certainly not the AT that underperforms...

If it has eyes, you can blind it, if it has blood, you can make it bleed, if it has a mouth, you can make it scream.
One of our current SG teams has a thermal, 2 kin and a rad, combined with a fire brute its pretty much game over for anything that gets in our way. Definitely not an underperforming AT if played correctly.
