Which secondary set...

...do people think would go best with electric melee? I already have a /electric and /energy aura so dont want to repeat those. Also i dont particaularly want /stone since it doesnt fit my brute style. So /fire /inv or /dark? Fire seems to be the aoe dmg choice and would go well with elec's plentiful aoe attacks. But is it too squishy to solo EBs and things? And is the lack of a God Mode power that bad? Inv seems better to solo with... Which leaves /dark of which i know little. All i know is psi res (yay) and apparantly high end costs, true?
So what goes well with elec/?

You're not going to be soloing EB's too well with Elec/ anyways since it's weak on ST. So might as well go /fire to maximize the AoE's.

Invulnerability is solid but dull and lacks an aggro aura ability. The final power, Unstoppable, is absolutely magnificent however.

Fire Aura is a little more flimsy but has a fantastic self heal, a target-dependant endurance boost, BUT no knockback or immob protection (though Burn is a PBAoE DoT clicky that frees you from any immob affecting you). So either you'll need Steadfast Protection: Knockback protection (resistance set) and/or Karma: Knockback protection (defense set) or get the Leaping powerpool for Acrobatics.

Fire Aura is criticized for having an unconditional self-rez as it's final power instead of a 'godmode' like Invulnerability's Unstoppable. But as a Brute you *will* die, especially on a less damage mitigating set like Fire Aura. The disorientate is more than enough for you to get on your feet, bring up all your toggles and start meting out firey vengeance. The damage and the sweet effects are icing on the cake.

I've not played Dark Armor but I teamed with a RL friend up to 50 with their BS/Dark Scrapper - Dark has a good target-dependant heal, a stealth power, and a choice of mez auras. It also offers the best overall protection against various damage types, notably does well against psi damage and has endurance drain resistance - you'll notice the difference when surrounded by Mu or Carnies. And finally it has a fear aura, an effect few foes have a defense against.

Like Fire Aura, Dark Armor has a self-rez as it's final power. It needs foes nearby to use but chances are whatever defeated you will be weeing on your cooling corpse. Good disorientate.

Hmmm, from a synergy point of view I have to say that a secondary set with an endurance drain would work best, because the drains and the -rec from electric attacks work best when you have a drained enemy to begin with.
But since you don't want to go /elec or /eng again you are left with options where elec/ won't be the best choice. To get even a little bit of synergy you could go the AoE route and take /fire or /dark... From those I would probably choose elec/dark, because it looks cool together and because the Stunning Lightning Rod of Fear seems like a fun idea.

Oh, and before I forget: Fire Aura is not too squishy to fight EBs with... In fact with those crazy recharge Healing Flames you feel completely un-squishy even without a godmode power. And Dark Armour is not that expensive unless you plan on running Cloak of Fear permanently. It's probably perceived as expensive, because of CoF and because you often have to take Acrobatics as KB protection. Other than that /dark offers nice protection all around and an awesome heal.

If it has
eyes, you can blind it, if it has blood, you can make it bleed, if it has a mouth, you can make it scream.

no it doesnt, it has invincibility which is its taunt aura..... i think the only brute secondary that doesnt have an "aggro grabber" is energy aura.

Forgive me - you are of course correct. I meant to say that Invincibility has no offensive toggles.

aha, in that case you would be correct

*bows* If I hadn't already played a SS/Fire Brute to mid 40s I'd be *very* tempted to play a Dual Blades/Fire Brute if only for the look of the thing - quick, beautiful animations and fire.

I enjoyed Willpower with Electric on Test.

Electric Melee is my favourite sounding Brute Primary, but I have never been able to make a brute last. Willpower was fast and effective secondary in my eyes.

However it's lack of self heal may be a bit dubious later on.

See i was considering elec/willpower too. The lack of self heal doesnt bother me, my two other brutes dont have one and they do ok, so the only concern would be whether lightning rod would knock back enemies so that the pbaoe acc debuff in rise to the challenge (iirc) didnt work?

I used Lightning Rod and burn as a combo before I had LR fully slotted and picked up the imob. The power you want to watch for random knockback is Thunderstrike. LR is no problem
