EM pulse for a Rad

Hey everyone,

I am thinking of taking EM pulse on my Rad/Rad defender and wanted your opinions on the power and also slotting.

So.. what do you guys, gals, 'n things think?

For PvE it's a pretty good power. I'd slot it with 2Acc 2 Rechg 2mez, with SO's.

Thanks. Any tips on using the power? Im thinking run in with choking cloud on, then fire off my irradiate, then fire em pulse.

Probably throw my toggles on them first.. but are they needed when using em pulse?

Personally for PvE i'd max Recharge out so its up as much as possible. Its slow to recharge.

The hold duration is huge and the Base Accuracy is better than other AOE holds so pick one. Normally I go with 1 Accuracy, 3 Recharge, 2 hold (since they'll have their Defense debuffed anyway usually).

With IOs Acc/Recharge/Hold IOs all the way. I had mine at about +80% for all with just 4 slots at level 39 (on my Fire/Rad)

Remember that EMP kills your Recovery for a bit so toggles will drain your blue bar, knock off Choking Cloud once its gone off.

I'd say RI to protect you as you close in (maybe Choking too if you like, but its an aggro magnet so if your on teams you might be better without), Irradiate to floor defense and EMP. Then switch off RI & Choking so they don't drain your blue bar.

I use it as a panic button on my Fire/Rad, think I had it 2acc/3rech/1hold.

Now I've got 3acc/mez 3rech I think.

Great power that recharges enough with hasten and 3 slotted recharge to be used significantly more than as a panic button. I love just charging in and firing it off along with the Psi nova for some additional AoE blammage. Won't ever hold bosses but with power build up you may well drain all their end to stop any return fire.
1 Acc, 3 Recharge, 2 hold sounds good for non-set IOs, otherwise Carni's idea works a treat

Actually according to City of Data even the Defender version has a 50% chance of applying a second mag 1 hold, enough to hold a boss too.

Thought it might have the same % chance of criticalling to hold a boss as a Controllers hold, never though it was 50% though, thats immense.

I use it as an opener everytime it's up when i'm teaming, tho -jump in, click pulse, let the team kill stuff- . No need of RI first as its base acc is great. Slots 2acc, 2hold, 2rech

I use EMP as an opener on tough fights and also as an extra debuff on AV fights. I have 3 Acc/MeZ and 3 Recharge in it which works well for me

Personally, I dont use things like EMP on a regular basis.

Rationale? I'd rather have it up when I really need it, than use it when not needed and then slip up when something goes awry.

So for me, as Im only using it when things have turned bad, I need it to work really really well. In other words, I slot it 2 acc, 3 hold. I bung in an acc too, just because I love the power.

But I think it depends on how you veiw these types of powers (Including things like AoE controller holds, Vengeance, etc). Some people like them up as much as possible. I take the veiw that since it is impossible to get them up every fight (under normal circumstances, Im excluding insane +recharge buffs), then you shouldnt NEED it up for every fight. Save it for when things go bad.

I use Choking Cloud all the time, EMP is my big fight starter or my AV crippler. Unless I know there's an AV coming up I will use it at will, but will normally save it for an AV if I need to. I guess thats different to just using it when I can, or just saving it. Some sort of middle ground. I dont have to worry about the end loss to me thanks to Powersink (which is always up when I need it) so for me there's no bad sides to using it

The only bad side to using it is when you use it, and a minute later your team runs into a heap of trouble. EMP would have saved the day, but you used it.

The flip-side being that you find yourself in a situation that could be made easier than it is but decide not to use it in case something worse comes up... then it doesn't. It reminds me of re-rolls in Blood Bowl.

Hence, its a judgement call. And, inevitably, everyone will make mistakes.

The only thing I adhere to personally is not to use it as soon as it is available. Why use it when there is no significant danger?

I just think its a good opener and tend to use it at the start of fights. If there's not many foes left (apart from AVs) then I wont bother with it. I like using it on the STF ambushes when you're trying to find that damn key too

Aye it's uber fun, jump in with boss targetted, em pulse and stack a quick hold before giving him time to react

Oh if its a boss I TS then CB him after the EMP and keep him stunned, at least until Choking Cloud kicks in

I can't tell how it works for a defender, but it rocks with my ice controller, a combo using EMP Pulse and Glacier let your teammates to destroy your enemies without sweating.
