AR/Dark madness!

Ok peeps, here is a crazy build I rolled last night and at lvl 4 is yet to get below 75% health! I have a feeling this could be hilarious in PvE and just a random thing for PvP..... taste and see......

i11 has given room to customise this heavily, plus the /dark is really working for me. After playing with Mids for about 30 mins last night I made this. Oddly I was thinking/dark before I started and after having a look, felt it would be something I could get real fun out of. A nice debuffer with precise attacks. I even wonder whether he'll fair in PvP as well (yes I know AR isn't great, but a recent battle with a blaster has made me rethink that). Damage won't be immense, but accuracy and unreal debuffs will make him a nasty PvE char, so in PvP could be hilarious. Mixture of lethal and fire dmg, loads of -acc, controls, stealth, ok defenses until 41 then it gets great. Plus 2 pets!!!

All hail the enemy of the Longbow Nullifier, the 1st ever Darkbow Suppressor!

You just know Tar Patch + Full Auto is gonna be addictive

Posted

And Tar Patch + Ignite too actually, just Tar Patch and anything! Tar Patch ftw!

Posted

Had a rearrange, moved a slot around to Full auto, moved hasten to lvl 6 (binned the grenade), moved Fearsome Stare to 30 and Howling Twilight to 35 - lvl 50 power is totally available. Think I may go for flamthrower for the sake of it really or a random pool - we'll see when I update post later from Mids (left laptop at home).

Posted

Take the stare asap, not at lvl 30. It's too good... Darkest night earlier too. This prolly the most defining and important power in the set

Posted

Woah, wait... no Flamethrower??

I strongly urge you to reconsider. It's one of your best attacks and combos brilliantly with both Full Auto and Tar Patch.

Posted

I agree with Echo on the flamethrower question, this is a large chunk of your damage output, especially later when everyone and their uncle has some kind of lethal resistance.

I dropped beanbag from my build because petrifying gaze did every thing I needed plus it roots enemies for ignite.

As I have levelled my Ar/Dark, mezzes have become an increasing source of pain and suffering and using AoEs outside a team setting has resulted in many deaths so i found in my latter career (40+) that single target attacks become important again when dealing with mez heavy enemies.

Burst, slug, snipe and especially ignite become increasingly important, combined with fearsome stare to lock down groups and petrifying gaze to lock down a single enemy as they are pummelled.

I would suggest for ignite going detonation damage/recharge and two damage common IOs (lvl 39) as this maxes out damage and increases recharge a bit.

For the snipe I also use sting of the manticore as the bonuses are nice, but in the last slot I went for a lvl 25 salvo IO acc/dam/end/range rather than the proc as the manticore set at level 39 does not max out damage (stops at 85% before ED) and I wanted to maximise damage constently. With the salvo IO in the sixth slot damage goes up to 99.70% and range the increase in range is welcome.

My planned build (tweaked in some respects from my current build) is as follows:

It's funny how people are suddenly talking about rolling AR toons now that weapon customisation is coming.
TBH the gun is ugly as [censored].

I CBA to paste my AR/Dark build here because it doesn't have fancy set bonuses or anything included. Just the basic IO sets like Numinas Convalesence, % for build up and chance for smashing damage (goes into tar patch).

But anyway....

On Gaspard I held on to beanbag because it's useful in PVP and it's good power because I like to have all the control I can get at later levels. It helps you to cripple all the npc's with mez attacks and bring down flying foes (not including bosses and up).
Stun (the resurrection stun always hits but is [censored]-weak and only works on minions), hold and fear....those things are just FAN DABBY FABULOUS.

On AR I dropped m30 because it does awful damage and you need your enemies to stay in bunches for your cones, not fly all over the place like jibbery [censored].

On /dark I dropped the shadowfall, because I tend to solo so there were other powers I prefered.

I also totally ignored the black hole, the concept sounds good, but it's a good way to drive your team mad (my friend took it and he respecced it after 20 minutes) and then again there are better powers worth taking.

As for the patron, I'd ignore the pet. You already have dark servant which is more useful than the horrid patron pets. Trust me, I've tried the horrid thing on my AR/kin.

Otherwise I'd recommend the Black Scorpion or Scirocco.

Black Scorpion has aoe Immob, but then again Dark Servant also tends to do it as an alpha strike.
The shield is prolly the most decent one, plus the "re-draw glitch" allows you to instantly cast ignite after you fire the mace (immob attack in particular). Also the hold is good for stacking with petrifying gaze.

Scirocco has end drain, which you will need because darkest night, heals and attacks will suck you dry. The shield is awful (I only use it for slotting status resistance IOs).
The hold does it's job (stacks nicely with petrifying gaze). And the pet is (suprise suprise) horrid.

This is what I've personally noticed while leveling Gaspard (the /Dark one) to 50.

Feel free to contact me in game if you wish to discuss this (awesome) combo.

EDIT:
Too many harsh words.

You're forgetting the normalisation of tier1/2, they drop back to 1 and 1.67sec activation, that is a HUGE chunk out of the animation.

Just for reference - thanks for the feedback peeps

I forgot to mention that this char was solely created as me and my mates in UD had the idea to make a special i11 all weapons team. So far we're about 4 AR corrs and a sonic/traps corr. I myself am making the teams crowd control and terror trooper (he is Blackout afterall lol) hence why the powers I chose are what they are semi-concept, semi-powerful build. I'll post an update of it later.

But I think i may have another rethink after properly looking into any new IOs and the new mad plans I have from nearly 100% finished energy/rad corr

Yes, burst activates really nicely now,
haven't noticed any changes for slug.
But when I've played it looks like ignite, flamethrower and full auto take slightly longer to activate nowdays.

32.7% mitigation vs 40,4% on Scorpion Shield in PvE, just FYI.
Resistance > Defence in PvP though.

Yeah...

I have 2 corruptors, one with scirocco shield and one with black scorpion shield.

The resistance doesn't do you any good when you're constanntly hit by stuns and you have to keep toggling it back on. Plus my corruptors aren't exactly the damage hog kind. I've tried it fully slotted with resistanace and various IO's and it just didn't work. Sure, I took less damage, but I was constantly hit by rikti stuns and other nasty attacks I would like to avoid.

On my BS corruptor, Its way easier to fight against rikti, heavies and other energy/lethal/smashing foes. Plus it works nicely with the -acc. It deflects attacks pretty nicely.

If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with black scorpion shield (too bad BS doesn't have end drain).
That's just what I've noticed while playing.

Slug seems wrong imho, doesnt match all other tier2's (too long rooting still).

The others seem to be related to the redraw fix (well fix..), sometimes i can already fire another power while de DoT of FA is still ticking.

I recall slug having reduced animation time on test server during open i11 test. I do hope they reduce the animation time for it, aswell as ignite, full auto and flamethrower.

There is a reduction indeed, but its not inline with all other tier2 powers of blaster. Full Auto and Flametrower afaik have no chances, except a very tiny redraw reduction.
