Paragon Wiki for Roleplayers

Hi there, me again. So like I know its been proposed before, but I don't think anything was made of it. But I think a roleplay community Wiki would be great for updating information. Strictly IC knowledge, you know, stuff like character profiles that can be found in official records, past plots, present plots, community-wide plots, villaingroups, herogroups, known clubs, bars, past events, current events; literally a place to store all IC information from our little RP community.

What do you think, good idea? Has it already been tried before? What are the complications of such an idea, do you like the idea? Would the already existing Paragon Wiki suffice or would it be better to start fresh?

I approve of this idea.
<stamps>

i think it will be fun, and useful, and we defiantly have the numbers to make it popular and keep it alive.
And it will help many of the newbie RPers, or those wanting to find about the CoX RP community.

that would be the thing we talked about updating, improving and making easier to use last time, yes.

Sorry, what do you mean? I don't know what you're saying but I read all sorts of implications. Nevertheless, if the Galaxy Girl venue encompassed the entire roleplaying community, then that Wiki would be perfect. Fortunately, though the Galaxy Girl crowd may be the core, it is not in the slightest the mass of our roleplaying community. Thus, I suggest something similar to that Wiki, but on a wider, general, more global scale.

Um, isn't that technically what this part of the boards is for?

Don't forget that any attempt to collate all the RP information is only as complete as far as the knowledge of those that contribute to it. For example, I go to Galaxy Girl, but I don't contribute to the wiki. I don't often say much about what happens to my characters on these boards. I'm sure there's a whole load of RPers out there that don't even frequent the boards...

Now before I get told that I'm negative/elitist/horrible/stamping down on ideas/evil etc., I'd like to say that I'm NOT saying "you can't do this", nor am I saying "you shouldn't do this". What I am saying is that if you do decide to do this, don't expect everyone to: A) contribute or B) be aware of the information on it.

Well yeah, obviously. And, I think Wiki's are much better than forums for information filing and browsing.

Just making sure!

Y'know how it is sometimes on here, ideas come up and people do expect everyone to take part...

And you did ask for complications!

Hehe, too true.

The Galaxy Girl one could be updated/expanded etc. so that it does encompass roleplaying as a whole. The last update listed was back in April, so a discussion with the site owner (Leif_Roar) and the members of the RP community should give a 'Yay' or 'Nay' to the idea.

It just seems silly to me, to start entirely from scratch, when there's already a chunk of the full project sitting there already.

Nothing wrong with starting fresh, I'm very much in favour of such a wiki, it would also be a great asset to try and gather cannon information about CoH in a way that anyone can search and find them easily.

A wiki full of Union RP information would be good. However, and this is my personal view, it needs at least one person who decides to take it upon himself to see the plan realized. It's a lot of solitary, thankless work. It is great if the "whole community", or a large enough part of it makes the effort, but it is not something that should be taken for granted.

Also, the information would be current at the time of adding it. To keep the whole wiki useful there should be either clear rules or one moderator / over-seer who has the authority to edit and remove obsolete information.

As I have said, I am willing to contribute to such a project, but I have no resources to be the headman making it happen.

Good. People like it. Lunk suggested using Wikia. Did you say you were up for co-moderating the Wiki Z?

Never co-modded a wiki before, but it's something I could give it a shot as. At the moment I do have free time till I start college again, so depends on my workload on my new course for if it'd be viable.

Of course, it'd be best if the emphisis was on people keeping their own articles current and up to date, and the moderators just cleaning up anything else, instead of people relying on the mods for take care of everything.

I think it'd be best to start from scratch. There's nothing preventing relevant information from the GG Wiki being copied over to the new one. Sometimes it is best to start anew than rebuilding or modifying.

Totally agree. I'll go request for the Wiki now. What name shall we give to it, Paragon City Database?

How about something less hero-centric like "The Ledger", "the Archive" or "Paradigm".

It's about Union server RP stuff, and villains included. Something descriptive. It's a plain one, but "Union RP Wiki" tells exactly what it's about.

I didn't mean that moderators would be responsible for updating everything. They would have the authority to remove information regarding for example players who have left the game and are no longer relevant (or rather move that information to a page about players who have left). More to the point: mods are folks who can remove stuff without other people getting annoyed about it. Using common sense, of course, but that goes without saying.

It would also be good if mods had the final call about the structure. In case there are conflicting views on how the information should be divided. Again this would be to prevent possible clashes as it is agreed in advance who has the final voice.

I would not wish to be a moderator myself. I am content to provide information to a common project.

HI,

Just my two pence, as one of the afor mentioned newbie RP-ers in the game I really like this idea. I am forever jumping around the RP SG groups sites and the forum, but tend to get a little lost and also not the best place if am looking for a specific piece of plot history or background info.

Big thumbs up, can't wait to see it.

Cool idea. I RP but generally my rp is pretty much how I play normally so no one notices.

Maybe base it of...

http://68.178.145.67/index.php/Main_Page

Its a great wiki with everything from character bios to fanart to RP story arcs.

Instead call it the Handbook of Union/Defiant or something.

It's not running away. It's advancing in reverse!

Thank you very much. I heard Virtue (the US roleplaying server) had this but couldn't find the address. It really is very well done and perhaps it'll be good to build a mirrored version of their wiki? For Union obviously.

No probs, got it of Dragonberry's sig in the US forums

If you're after a name that encompases all of Union without being plan, how about calling it something like Union United ? I know it's a little cheesy, but it gets the job done.

And I'd like to put in my character's info too. Although not a big social RP'er, most people have seen (or heard of) one of my guys lurking around
