Dungeon Keeper (1 and 2)
Hmmmm, not sure villain and hero items should be sepperated.
Some villain groups aren't villainous.
Some hero groups aren't heroic.
So, having the freedom to pick for yourself which fits would be nice.

Yeah, but what Gravitos was suggesting - force used against helpless prisoners - is overstepping the line between anti-hero and villain.
An anti-hero type could have a cell area for illegaly holding suspects, but that's about it - anything more would be going too far into evil.

Quite frankly, I think it's rather likely that even Superman type heroes would use force to extract information (if minimal and mostly through intimidation) from a badguy about the location of that 150 megaton nuke somewhere in the city that the Overfiend™ has revealed to explode in the next <insert limited time>.
Then there's the Punisher type that are appearantly villains working on the right side.
And of course the RPers that have a villain organization ... in Paragon.
"Oh this? Yes, it's a hero licence, they give them to just about everyone... doesn't make me any more a hero but it makes beating the [censored] out of you so much more convenient."
In short, I think it should be up to the players to decide whether to use a certain item in a base.
I know there are plenty of face options that I would reserve for villains only...

Dont know if this has been mentioned before but.. Windows for bases, it wud be hero/villain dependant for the views from the windows tho and not to sure if they shud have 1 or 2 animations going on thru them but it would breath a more non clostraphobic feel into some bases.
Dont get me wrong im pretty sure alot of villain sg's would prefer to go for the no-one see's in attitude, but i would quite like to have a couple of rooms with windows.
I feel it wud add an extra depth to any and all bases, you could even have smaller long narrow windows to put up at the top sections of the walls like those vents this in turn could also then be duplicated for mission maps creating a more realistic feel.
Showers? Not just the three door graphic for walls denoting lavatory facilities, but actual showers, for use in private apartments and/or communal showerrooms (my sg has both).

But there's the rating to consider - the prison/interrogation room might be ok for 16+, but not for 12+.

One word: Abstraction. Oh, and my Villain Boxed set, got 16+ on it. heh heh. ;-)
Evil Genius was a very humorous game, at any rate. Dungeon Keeper too, although somewhat darker. Maybe because they had no electricity. ;-)

Well, I think the rating may very well be going to change now - if NCSoft are giving all CoH players access to CoV even if they haven't bought CoV, then that's going to make CoH 16+ by default.
So you might still get your evil wish

Evil? An interrogation chamber is a standard base function as far as I am concerned. With the latest news in mind, I would at least hope for real doors or something. That should be agreeable for all involved alignments. Or perhaps you don't like SPIKED doors? Just kidding. ;-)

Well, can't you be creative with some of the stuff we have already? Like the test tube racks could be holding some kind of truth serum, and there're plenty of techno parts that could be a funky kind of lie-detector.

Not really sure of the purpose of spiked doors - unless you were defending agaisnt Brutes or Tanks, no one else would really run against a door covered in spikes

Aren't there already chains as a wall decoration? I'm sure I've seen them in the arcane section of decorations.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not really.. You have the wooden post on ceiling inside the light section. That's about it.., I want chains that could hold people or animals as wall items. As I', already without trapdoors, spikes, human cages... how can Liz do her favorite hobby then..? I currently abuse the power item circlet for it in Roleplay.. or the straw patch inside my dungeon section.

Beginner - Encounter a renewed age for the Mook and the Family when Emile Marcone escapes from the Zig!
- Along Came a... Bug!? #528482
Average - A new race of aliens arrives on Earth. And Vanguard has you investigate them!
- The Court of the Blood Countess: The Rise of the Blood Countess #3805
Advanced - Go back in time and witness the birth of a vampire. Follow her to key moments in her life in order to stop her! A story of intrigue, drama and horror! Blood & Violence... not recommend to solo!
Well, there are those sparkly, glowing restraints used on Statesman in the final mission against Tyrant, and also used again in one of the new I11 TFs, so there is a "restrained prisoner" emote - so maybe they could add captives as a decorative item for Villain bases
EDIT: Although, if you have a dungeon, I guess you'd prefer real metal chains and not those energy ones?
@Golden Girl

oh yesssss..... I prefer real metal chains and manacles....
if it weren't 12+ I would love blooded spikes, hanging victims, cages on the ceiling... etc too
I'm a villain for damnations sake!

Well, going by recent signs - GvE edition, free copies of CoV/CoH for those hwo only had one half - I'd say there's a pretty good chance that NCSoft will fully merge the two parts into a single product, meaning the rating will be bumped up to 16+ for all content, which would allow for some darker elements in the Hero side of things.
However, evil for the sake of evil is still unlikely to get much attention - the Rogue Isles has a very structured kind of evil - out and out crazies aren't really helpful to Recluse
So even at 16+, chains might be all you get

You go by the idea that Bathory Erzsebet... a 400+ year old aristrocratic vampire with her own base of operations and full court filled with vampires, zombies, werewolves, ghosts, demons and mad scientists is actually not having an agenda of her own and will fully follow Recluse. (she will not even call him 'lord' if she can help it).
Lets just say she keeps a reasonably low profile and fit the ... what you might call... out and out crazies corner.
Can't wait till coh/cov merges. bases for all to access... and more people trying out villains as they get the game anyway. Lots of members started out on heroes and just never bought villains because they had enough on what they had. This will infuse the villain side with a lot more creeps fr me to take control over.

Some like it as evil as it gets and still think it's not evil enough.
Some can't stand minor evil.
Others can't stand fluffy and pink, some think it can't be pink or fluffy enough.
So, instead of debating whether something is too evil or not... (I dislike more then moderate evil)
suggestions instead!
Mini games!
Tetris, bubbles, pinball, bowling, darting... why not!?
A little pop up that takes the control and provides a little something to do while waiting for the SG meeting to start
"Hey boss, the meeting's assembled and waiting for you!"
"I'll be there in a moment, just about cleared this level."
Could also introduce the odd puzzle to missions or some such.

Well, it is important when discussing adding evil stuff to bases - if the game had a mature rating, then there wouldn't be a problem, but even with 16+, there's a limit to what can be added before it becomes too extreme.
So I think that while chains would be ok, bloodied spkies might break the "no gore" rule that seems to be in place.

You're all missing the point:
WINDOWS!
Ever seen what they did to Bespin City in Empire Strikes Back?
I would like to see an in-base message system/ability to write on walls. A simple motto, duty rosta, 'Please ask permission before removing items from this storage rack' written next to an object would make life a lot easier.
Also, although complicated, further permissions - non SG members adding/taking from storage, rank related storage (not the current system, but table/rack specific, 1 for lieutenants, 1 for leaders...), more...

I'd like a choice of zone views too, so you could decide where your base was.

I see a 'Danger Room' was suggested earlier in the thread...until that happens...wouldn't an arena terminal fill some of that function?
Most of what has been suggested above would be good. Especially the stuff that allows the group to put some stuff that can be uniquely 'theirs'. One of the things that appeals about base design is that it should be flexible enough to allow the base designer to realize a good concept. E.g. In a villain group my toons are in the base is laid out like the interior of a spaceship, control at the bow end to represent the 'bridge'. 'Engine Room' at the rear containing the power devices etc.Of course. the base design engine at the moment can't really make the design look that convincing at the moment..but you never know what will become available in the future.

If you want great base design, look at some of the stuff in "Evil Genius". I feel the bases in this game is just a shadow of what they can be.

I was trying to remember the name of that game
Wasn't there one about dungeons too?
[ QUOTE ]
The ability to capture NPC's and put them in prison for interrogation, granting buffs, temporary powers, or even enhancements. Or extracting information that generate a newspaper type mission, with a base trophy reward at the end.
[/ QUOTE ]
That might be ok for Villains, but it's not really a Hero thing - we just arrest them, I don't think we have any authority to hold suspects - especially as they're TP'ed straight to the Zig anyway.
Although, I see nothing wrong at all with having Villain-only and Hero-only base items - while the Villains could have a prison area unique to them, the Heroes could get some kind of research center that would fulfill the same role of giving out buffs or information leading to missions.
