Zone PvP Dying Out?
Inventions are exciting for many pvpers, since their bonus are pretty good if you decide to use IOs to most of your powers. Also to note that the nights at warburg are getting better, and i can imagine if someone try to organise WB raid one time a week, we will have nice numbers of people. Not only to WB but any pvp zone. As a pvper of zones most, i am not sure, but i think every monday is pvp night at Test server, not sure.
Times I've pvped in warburg on Defiant I can count with one hand whereas on Union theres action most if not everyday
thePhilosopher Martial Arts/Regen/Fire Scrapper
theRegulator Empathy/Energy/Soul Defender
Total Inertia Ice Blast/Kinetics/Psy Corruptor

I only really venture into the zones on Union and I haven't even done that since I9 hit live. I've been far too busy collecting sets for my main. It won't be long before I start going back in their as I nearly have all the sets that I'm after. I'm sure many people are doing the same.
Also there has been a bit of an influx of new players lately, once they get to the required levels I'm certain there will be some fresh meat to fight.
Dammit, so basically i need to use the double XP weekend to PL into PvP range?
On test is it Zone PvP or arena? plus doesn't test tend to be the home of the uber PvP SG's?
The pellet with the poisons in the Vessel with the Pessel, the Chalice from the Palace has the brew that is true...
In my experience pvp in zones things have gotten a lot better
Granted i have only been to Bloodey bay for shiv's and i havnt even touched sirens or warburg in ages, i have been going to RV for farming of turrets, recipes etc a lot since i9's release and since theyres a lot of villains who are keen on doing the same too it results in a lot pvp'n
PvP Zone combat has been quieter I've found since i9 hit, which is only to be expected really. Maybe bar RV due to the drops. Here's hoping for a RV population increase due to double xp; only thing better than killing hypocritical moaning farmers, is killing them when their rewards are greater

Hmmmm could be fun. If I find there is a lot of hero farming I am sure some nasty villains may come to ruin there fun. Anyone know of such villains, mwh ha ha .
On topic I feel that on union the zones are fairly populated (I know Warburg is my new home). Maybe the double xp weekend a good chance to get a toon to a reasonable level so can enjoy that nice bit of pvp every now and again.
As said I think one of the reasons why zones are quieter then before is people mishing to get them inventions they need.

Bit mixed really. Warburg has seemed a lot busier, so at least there's regular fighting going on, although personally I don't like Warburg that much compared to the other zones. I don't like PvPing at level 38 most specifically, also I hate the way everyone congregates on the beach generally. If you can get the fight moved up into the zone it's a lot more enjoyable.
RV is quieter PvP wise, if possible. I very rarely see much in the way of people looking to PvP at all (hence spending more time in Warburg despite the fact I prefer PvPing at level 50 and like RV better). There's also significantly more heroes than villains in there as a general rule which I find makes it a bit dull - I don't have any high level villains or I'd probably spend more time in there.
SC seems unchanged. Sometimes there's a fight, sometimes there isn't.
BB is not somewhere I tend to go. My characters don't tend to exemp well quite that far.
I've only done PvP twice in zones since i9 arrived. Once in Siren's and once in RV. Both had a decent amount of players. Things will pick up once people get the IO's they need. Everyone is welcome to join in the PvP on test, on Monday nights. Everyone meets at Pocket D arena for random mixed team fights. Its good because you get to team with everyone and there is no bitterness like you find in some zones. I'd have to say the standard is pretty high though.

Don't think I've been there with my TA/A since I9 came out.
Id like to PvP in them zones in the way them zones are meant to be played but the chance of accumulated debt puts me off.
I did 5 mins yesterday in Sirens buffing NPCs to get a win against an MM and lots of NPCs. How many people go there for xp? and how many badgers would stop going there for lack of xp? and why cant i have a see all healthbars of npc allys as an option? The Siren zones can be won helping the npcs when ya a pacifist emp with no attacks or as a brute pulling mobs into ambush areas. You could have a virtual mastermind of a legion experience with just you in the zone and then win it without chance of debt or go both pvp and pve for a new PVP&E rating without debt. But either way the rewards for risk isnt that enticive and things just get old ie after the first time ya came out got tped AS impaled or ganked by all the PVP names.
Repetitive same same tacts like that make me go afk in the hosp, with me as the most wanted, build planning and getting time badge "no bounty for you today".

You are best off waiting until you have a lvl 50 before you go there. Then the debt means nothing.

to OP.
personally, I really dont like the server specific double XP weekend. True, we can't blame defiant for causing all of the lag problems on Union, but it has caused everyone with accounts to play at the same time, including the regular Defiant base.
As for PVP, generally I preferred CoH before PVP was introduced. In every MMO I've ever played, PVP has just brought ( for me ) bad things instead of good and the same can be said for ( unfortunately ) CoH.
Warburg's PVP is limited to fighting at the beach near the Hero ship, any other PVP in there is accidental, not intentional as there are so many places to head to in the web. Thats not a bad thing, but with the nature of Hero / Villain imbalance, it makes for a difficult time unless you head in there at quiet times, or take a team.
( please note, a lot of people say "if pvp is too hard, take a team, but its not always viable and players should not be FORCED to team to enjoy zone specific content )
As for RV, I really don't like this zone. It was a good idea, but the nature of CoH combat seems to be either stack holds in a team on one person, then shout how good you are on broadcast at that person, send in a heavy while said person is already fighting something, or continually fly away as soon as you're about to lose.
I think its not that the zones are dying out, its that unless you have a team ( or keep chat logs to justify the lack of sunlight some people experience ) you can't really PVP and people are taking notice.
If you try and duel and you get ganked, you get the stock "OMG PVP IN A PVP ZONE" comments, that are frankly correct, but NOT FUN which is the point of games.
My decision, I state MY DECISION which for all the people that will no doubt chip in on this one, is to not give two hoots about PVP anymore. When the arena's were introduced a lot of people didn't use them, and still dont, yet now reward based zones with PVP risks are here, people seem to defend PVP rules much much much more fiercely. Again, thats my interpritaion of things from the boards, so before people start digging up quotes, or getting statistics about things, don't bother.
You may also ask the relevance to the OP. Well, here goes. It seems that PvP isnt geared towards the PvE builds. PvE characters really can't PVP as players will ALWAYS make specific builds to give them advantages over other players to try and justify thier existance or something. Adding rewards to repeated success of said advantaged characters in PvP zones only makes the matter worse.
When I wan't to fight players, I'll go play something where the fight is fair and balanced. If I want a good MMO experience, I'll stay the hell away from the "dungeon master on a saturday night PVP crowd" and go kick some PvE butt!

Sadly, holds are very efficient in the game unless you happen to be very prepared for them. I think the very epitome of all this is the old Hamidon experience, where Hami was basically held to death, unable to defend it's blobby self.
In PvP, the thing is that many things give mez protection but mez resist (or was it the other way round? terms confuse me at this hour) is sparse, which basically means that if the enemy manages to stack enough holds to drop your toggles, you're burned. (Unless you're packing a bf or have a support toon with de-mez in your team) A single Dominator can stack enough magnitude to the holds with just the single target hold to bring down a Granite Tank running Rooted, which pretty much means that anything in the game can be held. The only situation that comes near to this is a group of Tsoo Yellow (or was it Green?) Ink Men all attacking with their mez at the same time during the alpha strike.
You will need outside (BFs are outside in this case) assistance in team-based PvP environment to survive the mezzes properly.

That's the classic scrapper vs. blaster dilemma - if you are a blaster (not a blapper, no melee attacks in this example) and you face against a scrapper - you have flight, he doesn't. Will you fight him from the air where you're likely to survive, or on the ground where he has the advantage.
To use this in your case - if my self heal recharges in 10 seconds and I have 5 hitpoints left and and an enemy is close to me. Should I charge at him or run away to get myself back to health? Even if it's not the most heroic thing to do, running away really helps survival.

With arena terminals at the Pocket D, the Arenas are now a few short moments away from where-ever you were fighting. If the fighting at the zones bothers you too much, take the fight to the arena, that way you can ensure the fights happen at the terms you set. And they're incredibly fun.

Exactly. If you go in, you expose yourself to the risk of getting attacked and killed in PvP. If you don't want the risk, you will have to ignore the reward as well. It's really brilliant. I love being an agent of the risk in this case.
In my ideal world, every time a farmer team set out to RV, they'd bring a pvp team with them to guard their carebear assets. That way everyone would win.

Which epitimises CoH combat, hence the line. Problem is as mentioned before players will always seek to gain the biggest advantage possible over other players. Its human nature, but in a game where certain reqards are only availiable by doing this ( some of the Villain accolades are only directly availiable through PVP ) it forces certain sets to take certain combo's that few players have any chance against whatsoever. How is that balanced?
its not.

If for example, the Cryo pistol accolade hit for -fly, or everyone had an attack with this side effect in their main set ( again, I'd like to avoid forcing people to take powers they dont want, so air superiority isnt the stock answer thanks ) this wouldnt be so much of a problem because it levels the playing field.

True, but I was pointing out the shortfall in trying to have one on one fights, as team vs team or team vs solo are so utterly one sided.

But again i'm talking about the problems faced by PvE characters. Why should someone happily playing the game, be forced to respec their character to engage in PvP because certain powers work differently?

I wouldnt say it levels it, just tilts it towards the melee toon and gives people less reasons to pick fly.

I didnt respec my dominator (A dom ffs! hardly the uber pvp choice) and have taken enough scalps from 1 to 50. Sure it could be a lot better if I done a respec, but I didnt want to until after I hit 50. TBH I think it sounds like pvp has left you a bit bruised. Why not take a rest then try it in a months time again?

Completely agree. PvP isn't balanced on personal scale, it's rock-paper-scissors. It tends to even out in the bigger picture. For example, without the support of a team, I don't really have a shot against an SR scrapper on my Dominator unless I'm popping yellows like there is no tomorrow. I don't have any +ToHit or -Defense powers. With someone else doing the heavy lifting of making a target more vulnerable, I can do my bit. And even then, when facing off against someone backed up by an Empath, I face serious problems (well-applied Clear Mind can sometimes make a Dominator's work really hard)

I'm a bit confused about the "certain powers work differently" bit, could you explain this is greater detail? (Tried reading the original post, but can't really connect to what this meant)

PvP hasn't left me bruised, I just HATE unfair fights in something thats supposed to be entertaining. To make my PvE character viable in PvP to counter a lot of what people are doing with theirs, totally changes him as a character.
As for the fly thing, fly is a travel power, not combat and as such I don't think it should give such an advantage. Also, I didnt say it should affect movement powers, giving people the ability to stay out of range until the effect wears off by running, but it does give players with fly some risk vs. the reward of the advantage it DOES give.
I did leave CoH for a time, and nothing has really changed so far as PvP attitude goes.

because your chances of getting even one person down when you are outnumbered is just ridiculious.

Depends on the AT, player and how good they are. A Blaster can nuke a group of players and possibly take out a few.
Wouldn't a solo PvP'er that could take down 3 or more villains without a scratch be slightly overpowered?
Is it just me or does it seem this way since I9?
Is it all going on in Union where I don't have anything high enough to take part?
Bloody Bay = LRSF/STF Shivan farming
Sirens Call = Ghost Town
Warburg = Ghost Town
RV = Recipe/Salvage/Badge farming
I know the server has never been packed with PvP goodness but there at least used to be the occasional 3-6 vs 3-6 kinda thing but now, nothing.
I've always prefered the less serious, less powerbuildy PvP of the zones where even a PvE specced character can have some fun (Because frankly i'm a pretty mediocre PvP'er) but I9 seems to have taken what little life it had left.
Are there secret meeting I'm missing or are other people seeing this too?
