Defence Vs Total Focus?

Ok I've been getting my behind handed to my on numerous occasions by an En/En blaster with Total Focus. I'm an Elec/Elec/Elec and we are both 50s (Scarlet Shocker and Proximity if you know either toon) and I am constantly undone by that. Is there anything that can be done about it?

Break Frees?

Well as Alvan said, break frees yeah but I can think of a few ways around it. As total focus has a rather slow animation, if your target is using it on low health, make sure you get the last hit in before that total focus comes back down and lands on you. Surprisingly alot of my En/En's deaths come from being too close and having that downtime with the animation. Every second can make the difference Another one is luck inspirations, I always keep a nice stock of these, along with break frees. Lucks can prove very handy in situations when you just need the chance to dodge. Also with your elec mastery, iirc that has a hold, keep using that and try and get your target to use up as many break frees as possible. Also another thing is travel powers. If you stand still and don't move about, that total focus will just keep getting you pinned. A good SS+SJ combination keeps you fast and out of the way in Melee. Or if you're a flyer, just go high, use a hold and take advantage of the downtime you've been given.

Anyway thats just an amateurs opinion on the matter, I'm no real big PvP'er. Hope it helps anyway

Pop break free when you see the animation start. That way you wont be stunned even if it hits.

That said, blaster vs blaster match is often like "sudden death" fighting and requires good reflexes Very enjoyable too.

With total focus' long animation you should be able to charged brawl + havok punch (does more damage than TF in less time) during it then once you have been hit you will both have high defiance and it will be down to timing and luck to see who dies

as Per Hammer above it's good. tbh with Total Focus u see the animation building up and you have a second or so to react.. now this could be a number of things depending on the situation really.
As above pop a BF if you can take the hit and carry on fighting.
Quickly eat a couple of greens if you want to fight on and you think it may down you.
Throw a quick animation attack out to down them if there on low HP. Elec Melle has a few punchs that woudl do good too.

If the main reason Total Focus is hurting so bad is because your opponent is BU & Aiming before he lets fly just keep wary of his BU animation.. As soon as you see it keep some distance and mvoe away fro a few seconds not rooting yourself.. this will waste it's full use and give you a better chance

Hope my rantings are a help but it's no pro advice

Its not a bad idea altogether to just run away for 10 seconds when you see build up animation, regardless what attack your opponent is hitting you with

To beat them all you have to do is: bust a move!

(Note: You wont find this funny unless you've seen the latest Scrubs and if you don't watch Scrubs, shame on you....)

As you're elec though I'm gonna assume you have Short Circuit and so I'd suggest using that as unless they've used the end discount move then they'll normally use a lot of end using TF and so making use end faster and thus more easy to hit. At least that's what I do, as well popping loads of dru...insps, mainly break frees. Also Thunder Strike is your friend unless they have acrobatics as they'll get knocked down and give more time for hittage, unlike TF which doesn't knockback or down.

This. If he kills you in melee then don't get in melee; run away and fire ranged blasts and holds. And use break frees too (assuming you're not one of those crazies who think inspirations are cheating)

This.

Keep them at range, get in melee when you know you can make the kill and/or get out again safely. As soon as you see/hear TF, pop a BF, run, and get a green or other heal ready.

Has anyone mentioned the uber ranged nova you have too? One big melee hit and thunderous blast drops most sqishies.

My TB is stacked for DMG & ACC but still doesn't always get her, but it's very often my best chance of victory.

Chaps and Chapesses,

Many thanks for your responses here, and to be honest, there's not much there I've not tried myself - In a way that's reassuring because it's clear there's no obvious magic bullet On the other hand I could just be totally pants at PVP

Maybe I need more practice

This. There's not usually a magic bullet, or if there is, you need to practice to be able to use it.

hm, she wasnt using PFF when you fire it, was she?
I got my TB slotted 3 dmg, 3 rech, and with bu/aim i dont think i ever missed a squishy with it. Its a great attack when youre duelling, as if it only hits 1 target it only drains 70 end rather than the full 100, allowing you to finish her off with ease.

Also with elec epic, remember you got access to 3 holds (2 ranged + 1 melee), make her burn through BFs, even with acro, 2 holds should be enough to hold her. In case she IS usin acro and you feel lucky to try it, you can try getting in havoc punch or charged brawl for their chance to sleep. It'll knock down acro and can use a hold or thunderstrike after..

3rd is your end drains, unless they spam conserve power as crazy, you can really hurt a blaster with end drains. Of course the 2 most efficient ones require you to be in melee and have a fairly long animation, but if you can get it off, its worth it. Once theyre down to 0, its easy to keep em there.

Last but not least, insps are your friends.. as said before, pop BFs, purps, greens, whatever.. just make sure you stay in the fight

I'm not sure what PFF is, but I haven't considered slotting more recharges into TB... I'll have to give that some thought, thanks.
