  1. Agree with everything thats been said above!

    I tried out other MMO's in between CoX, and what Soul_Storm mentioned about "other MMO's seem to basically do just about the same thing all in subtly varied ways" is true from what I've experienced.

    I tried WoW for a month, but it needed alot of time to advance at a good pace, not so good for a casual gamer.

    LOTRO; about 2 months, and I joined near enough on release, perhaps it's wrong to expect alot from a newly released MMO, as there will be the basic content and a few bugs likely in the works, but I found the combat and questing system rather repetitive.

    In CoX, there are aspects included which have made it stand out among the rest in my opinion;

    -The true implimentation of the term "casual play"; with the mission and teaming structure, and the inclusion of the new xp curve, players which do not wish to spend many many hours grinding don't have to..
    -Knockback, something which really makes a combat situation feel a bit more alive as opposed to a rooted fight.
    -Ragdoll Physics, again, like knockback, it's all just visuals and not a groundbreaking feature, or something that just CoX has used, but it really helps to immerse the player in the fight (would only get better if they included the Euphoria engine, now that would be interesting!)

    This game definitely has got an edge over some of the competition in the MMO market, even if this may be a biased opinion as I've played this game for near enough 2 years, and all the others combined doesn't even equal 6 months, but if it's kept me and others alike hooked this long it has to be doing something right!
  2. Wb Flush, nice to see you back;

    I fairly recently resubbed aswell, but am finding it a lil hard to get back into the swing of things, still it didn't stop me getting my 3rd level 50! hoping i12 will make things more interesting for me!

    Good to see you back, chat soon

    [/ QUOTE ]3 acc in a PvE build? Do you regularily fight +6's or something?

    1 acc is enough for most powers for sensible PvE, 2 definitely is. 3 is simply overkill.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Hence why I did the alternative of 3 dmg 2 acc 1 rech The build I posted was pretty much all sets anyway, so you can disregard most of the advice at the top.

    Hi Aikisho

    Right I can give a few suggestions on your build;

    -I would personally slot Bone Smasher for 3 dmg 2 acc 1 rech, or 2 dmg 3 acc 1 rech, either one is good, the 1st one should be fine if you want some +acc set bonuses later on from inventions. End Reduction isnt really needed because of the power's recharge time.

    Stamina, it's probably best to keep as 3 slotted end-mod. If you must 6 slot it, use the efficacy adaptor set, for the sweet set bonuses (and if you really can spare the slots)

    Total focus, go for 3 acc 2 acc 1 rech. No need for the end reduction again, long recharge time in this power, by the time it's back up you'll have some endurance recovered.

    For the mastery pool, I've taken force mastery on my /nrg blaster. Gives you personal force field, superb panic button, temp invulnerability, solid enough shield, protection from smash+lethal, 2 most common damage types.

    Tbh I'm not a huge Ice Blast expert, but I have heard that bitter freeze ray and frost breath aren't the best powers to fit into your attack chain, someone who has more experience with this though can further help you here probably.

    As for slotting on the blasts, 3 dmg 3 acc is perfect, or 3 dmg 2 acc 1 rech. With stamina, end red IO's aren't really needed that much.

    Fly doesn't need all those flight speeds. It's a bit slow unslotted or with 1 slot, that's why I personally opt for the leaping pool on most characters, get acrobatics thrown in there aswell. If you want to opt for fly, 1 flight speed is fine, no need for end redux.

    I've done a build for you on Mid's. It's what I would personally have if I was playing Ice/Energy. It's quite heavily focused on close combat, hence the aid self and force mastery shields being thrown in there for that extra bit of safety.

  5. Im interested in getting all those accolades on my Defender.. Count me in for this!
  6. I understand mate I didn't consider those factors, and the last thing I'd want to be is a liability, especially since I would be playing a vital role of ensuring the team's safety.

    When I ding 50 and read up on this a bit more I'll get in touch!
  7. hmm, I have an empath (lvl 45), and I've run through the STF a dozen times but never with him, always been on scrapper/blaster. Never done MoSTF before either, but I'm willing to give healing a shot. Should be lvl 48ish by Sunday, fully IO'd for fast recharging heals and buffs

    Put me down as a possible, if you'd like to have me along!
  8. Big congratulations to Adama aka Chilling Storm who got his 2nd level 50 tonight! Well done matey, looking forward to the next one!

  9. If I'm online at that time, count me in for this
  10. I'll add my 2 cents on this, even though I'm sure everything I'll say has been pretty much echoed by the previous posters;

    I've played the game through getting 2 lvl 50's (scrapper and blaster) teaming with many empathy defenders, and personally having a lvl 41 emp/rad defender set to be my next 50; from that I've seen alot in the way of the buffing/clear mind argument.

    Generally my frame of mind when i play my emp/rad defender is that my primary is empathy; therefore its my primary role to use all the powers which i have chosen in this set to their best use in the team, which i like to assume every other player in the team thinks aswell ^^. Clear mind is such an invaluable tool to distribute to your team-mates who lack sufficient mez protection. Before the team charges into the first mob my general order of buffing is power boost/recovery and regen auras, fortitudes and finally a round of clear mind to all who do not have mez protection such as unyielding, integration etc. Like PieterB said, there is overbuffing where buffs should not be asked for if they are not needed. As the primary buffer its a great advanced team tactic to know on cue what player requires what sort of buff; sometimes fortitide will go better on a defenceless blapper over a super reflexes scrapper, as an up close blaster will require less focus on the heals if he is being further aided by the +def of fortitude.

    Most of the time my playstyle is that in a combat situation, the heals are always more sustainable than the buffs. An analogy to help me explain; a controller, in melee range, mezzed on 10% health. The heal is needed before the buff obviously, because if he has the hp, he can take the expected few extra hits/random AoE's etc whilst the cm is being applied...
    Also, for example, the team's tanker, whom is holding the aggro for the more vunerable team-mates, I always make sure that is the health bar I closely watch. You can look at it 2 ways I suppose; you can say that I dont need to keep an eye on the tanker because he has the highest resistance out of all the archetypes etc etc.. Regardless, if the tank falls in combat it leaves the team fully exposed to the enemy's full untaunted focus (I always bear this in mind aswell if the enemies main damage is psionic and there is an invunerability tanker keeping aggro, for obvious reasons).

    Anyway I'm drifting, enough on my tactics.. ^^

    Back on the subject of "Why become a Emp/ Def?", I would say that you become an empathy defender because it suits your tastes to be the "healer" of the team. But CoH's mechanics are that an empathy defender is much more than your average "healer", infact sometimes I despair the title empaths has as "healers".. Healing is only one side of it, buffing also comes into play very largely, without buffs and just pure heals, an empath would be nowhere near his full potential.

    Although it is seen as your duty to protect the team, there sometimes are occasions where you have to question your team-mates style, not your own. It is not your fault if you can't keep the trigger happy, leeroy jenkins-esque blaster up and alive, it is also largely up to the players themselves using a bit of wit and co-operation to stay alive and on their feet; this duty shouldn't always fall on the "healer".
  11. Heya,

    Yesterday I reactivated my account after being inactive since about September if I remember right... Anyway it's good to be back, i11 from what I've played so far is a fantastic update, rolled a fire/dual blades tank and am curious to see how that will turn out

    I'm still a bit confused about the new Defiance hehe, I know you can use tier 1/2 attacks when mez'd, but every attack being displayed as an icon gets a bit confusing, I assume this goes towards some sort of combo damage/acc bonus? If someone could help me out here I'd much appreciate it!

    Cya ingame,

    Im back !

    Welcome back mate Hope you enjoy the game, alot's happened in a year and a bit! Hope you enjoy it, may see you around on Defiant!
  15. Personally I would say Health and Stamina It's just easier in the long run, better to have something to keep the attacks going longer rather than a one off damage/accuracy boost which isnt long term sustainable... So basically yeah health and stamina

    Slot Empath

    Hey Gungner Right even though I havent got my emp to 50 yet I think I can help you out a little on the slotting.

    For your heal other and healing aura, SO/IO wise go with 3 heal 3 rech, or go with 2 heal 3 rech 1 range on heal other if you fancy having that bit more of a safety barrier or want to use your emp for PvP. I would reccomend the doctored wounds IO set for your healing aura, heal other and regen aura. Get the full set of 6 on all 3 of those powers (i personally on heal other have taken 5/6 of doctored wounds, i missed end/rech and got a range IO). For your buffs such as fortitude, can't go wrong with membrane Hamidon enhancements (tohit/def/rech), PvP builds tend to like 3 membrane HOs and 2 range, but with standard PvE you can get away with just the 3 membranes or even just 3 rech SO's, or 3 rech SO's, 1 tohit and 2 defence if you have the slots to spare and do not wish to try and chase after the hami-o's. Clear mind, for PvP try 2 range 2 recharge, if you're wanting perfection on the recharge and range down to the second, or if you're really not that bothered, 1 rech should serve you fine in PvE. Recov aura, I originally had it as 3 end mod 3 rech, but I've been informed that 3 rech does just fine. Regen aura as I said above, full doctored wounds IO set or alternitavely 3 rech 3 heal. Adrenalin boost, a few ways you can go about this, A good way is just to take heal/rech IO's from different sets and mix them up into AB (e.g. heal/rech from doc. wounds, heal/rech from miracle, heal/rech from numina), and then finish it off with 2 end mods. So either 3-4 heal/rech and 2/3 end mods or just 3 rech 2 end mod 1 heal I would say if you want to go on the classic SO/IO method.

    Just give me a shout if you need any more help on your emp

  17. Hmmm i do need this TF on my main 50, put me down as a maybe; not 100% sure if I have the time for this one
  18. Captain_Alpha_EU

    PvP Night.

    I was going to try to come down tonight, but it looks like I'll have to give it a miss.. Even though my account has been resubbed for about a week now the Test Server is still not letting me in; darned thing says my account time has expired Still if I'm about next week I'll see if I can come down then.
  19. Defiant? PvP!? Yep Unit Alpha is so there

  21. Well I dont know if I'm classed as a veteran, nearing 2 years here but what the hell...

    Original Hero:
    Vabre Cortez

    Most Notable Alias(es):
    Captain Alpha 01, Cleansing Light, Sirius Cortez

    Supergroup(s):
    UNIT ALPHA 01, Order of the Crucified Swords and the Doomsayer Cult

    Account Created: December 25th 2005

    Veteran Rewards Time: 1 Year 7 months (yeah thanks WoW and LotRO )

    What are you doing now?:
    Just got back after a brief break, playing whenever I can inbetween studying, gigs etc

    What would make you return to CoH?:
    Well I have returned, but if I was going to demand something it would be to perhaps consider knocking down the war-walls and giving us some nice open spaces to speed around.. Perhaps a new, metropolis like city zone with more new interesting story arcs and absolutely huge skyscrapers. Oh and more buildings lying around the city which have windows which we can see through properly, and crazy collateral damage to every surface in the game would be awesome. Hmmm yeah I'll stop there
  22. Hey guys, thanks for the feedback, I'm really grateful for all the help, being a PvP emp is something I've always wanted to try out. Btw I may come along to one of those monday night PvP nights on the test server with my emp/rad and en/en blaster if you don't mind me tagging along? As for the stealth IO thing that is something I shouldve thought about... I think I will have to side with X_treme on the sprint argument however as my playstyle would not really fit in with hitting sprint every 120 secs... I have a hard enough time remembering to keep a good trail of CM on everyone as it is! Anyway, I think I'll try Psydock's idea of taking the damage out of cosmic burst and put it into a jump height. Although atm I'm running on rope-a-dope stun IO's rather than stupefy, as the salvage prices for some of it I just cannot afford If I'm gonna take on Numina IO's, Doctored wounds and everything else, so I suppose I could just keep 6 slotted cosmic burst and go for the full rope a dope set, meaning a nice long stun (and even longer with power boost ). I was also trying the new respec out in siren's last night. Amazingly I managed to not get killed once dispite attacks from an EM stalker, a mind control domi, a rad corruptor and a brute, (then again I had a storm/psy defender watching my back! )

    Anyway thanks a million for all the advice, and hopefully I'll see some of you at monday night PvP on test, looks like fun
  23. Hehe who doesnt Ok well you seem like a veteran at this so I'll take your advice on the clear mind, hows this?

  24. Cheers Psy, made another little change, I didnt however put the recharge in clear mind, only found space for one slot and that only shaved off 0.7 seconds, hardly worth it and I am no way going to move slots around when the recharge bonus is that small ^^.

    I moved the tohit buff out of build up and put it in SS, so now thats 3 run speeds, quick enough?
