Hyperion Watchmen: OOC
HOSPITAL HORROR AT DEATH OF A HERO
.. mourning the loss of their loved ones last night after an explosion in Paragon City Hospital. The blast occurred at around 10pm and caused extensive damage to the Emergency Room and adjoining areas
..
.. detonation was triggered by the death of one of Paragon Citys self-proclaimed defenders, Hyperion Star, although the extent to which his death contributed is still under investigation by the Paragon City Police Department. Current speculation appears to point to the payload of a new weapon embedded in Hyperion Star being partially responsible for the explosion and indeed the reason for Hyperion Stars presence in the hospital
..
.
.total number of casualties reached 36 of which 17 were fatalities, a number made worse by the confusion caused by the blast and by the fact that most of the victims were hospital staff and could therefore not help the injured
..
..onlookers reporting that some people seemed to miraculously walk clear of the explosion without any apparent injury to themselves whatsoever whilst others werent so lucky
..
..new and as yet unopened ward will be used as a temporary Emergency Unit until the investigation is complete and full repairs have been carried out
..
..a joint ceremony for the deceased will be held and a memorial plaque will be placed in a place of honour at the entrance to the rebuilt Emergency Unit
..
Nice, Chove. We're ready then. Just need to set a time and date and we can begin.
Everyone doesn't have to be at the first meet I guess, part of our heroes' initial quest could be to track down other survivors and see if they have been blessed/cursed by the incident. This would also leave us open to people joining weeks or months down the line. Who knows, some of the survivors could be villains?
This is starting to excite me now.

yeah. this sounds good. the concept that a number of them could be villains is good, and could make a rival SG which is set out to get revenge on the deceased hero by eliminating those who take after him.
(( There's a thousand pages of stuff that the writer is embarrassed to publish that one still has to write in order to get at the good stuff. He's half a page's worth of my quota... ))
Darkness. Pain. Familiar feelings. Also cold. Why the cold?
Arm is not moving. What is happening? I hear noises. Is someone out there?
It is a siren. I think I am moving. It is cold. Terribly cold. Where are they taking me?
I can still taste. Iron. Blood. I remember blood. A lot of it. Mostly mine.
Was I shot? Did something go through me? Is that why it is so cold?
Oh god. Inside, inside there is my core. It makes me what I am.
I always wondered if it could get damaged. Always wondered what if I died.
If I concentrate inside I can see it. Light. Beautiful light. Then the dark again. And cold.
I still cannot feel my arm. They modified it. To be better, they said. I want to move but cannot.
I feel touch on my face. Tongue not moving. Dark. Cold. I smell antiseptics. Hospital. The siren has fallen silent.
Something pulsates. The light within. I feel my arm. It is warm. Hot. I want to shout but cannot.
The dark gives way for the light. From inside. Cold gives way for warmth.
I shine like a star.
Oh god. My core is damaged. I am dying.
No. More.
I die.
Now.
People seem to be going with the "Science" suggestion that Coile made, which is good, but not for me. I said earlier that I wanted something more than a flimsy excuse for why a group of very different Heroes suddenly decided to form a supergroup together, and although they are well written, that's really all Coile's suggestions are (excepting the Natural one).
None of them addresses the central problem of WHY these people all decide to join. The people are all given their powers by the same event, so they all spontaneously decide to stay together and fight crime with their new abilities? As far as I'm concerned that's on the same level as the "Advanturers meet in a bar and a stranger approaches them with a job" cliche. Coile's suggestions would all make great backgrounds for individual characters, but they don't hold up as group concepts IMO.
There seems to be a growing number interested though, so you should have the numbers to make it work without me being involved. Have fun anyway, those who do go with it.
Sorry to hear that. I think this idea is far from flimsy. Coming together a year later to the source of their powers and then having to reveal themselves in the face of danger, may be a spontaneous event but the characters' motivations certainly aren't spontaneous. For me it's not about putting characters in a box, its about presenting opportunities for the characters to develop. I don't think I'm explaining myself very well and was about to start using the series Lost as an analogy, but I think we've collectively come up with a scenario that will result in some rich roleplay. We'll see.

*looks at his watch* Hmmm. 8:45 in Outbreak, and only Johnny Ember and Arthur Penningworth-Smythe have appeared. Is it still on tonight, or are we waiting until next week? I'm confoozed @.@
I thought we were rolling over to next week. Hope I haven't missed the first session, I'm up for doing it before next Wednesday if people want to.
I'll post my bio tomorrow if I get time to write it in work.

Right, guess we can hold for another week then until we get definite numbers and AT's? Will give me chance to create another character then with a costume.

Sorry guys if you turned up realise now that a final decision wasn't actually made for the above, but we're holding fire until next Wednesday at 8pm. My apologies again. Will be posting my bio / intro soon (hopefully today) Am looking forward to this...
I might aswell post mine.
Johnny Ember was a street egg head. he loved inventions of any kind but couldn't sit down long enough to make something worth while, all because he was being bothered by such thugs as the Hellions or the Skulz.
one day, however, he mannaged to create a pair of gloves which could tame wild energy of any sort, and a pistol which could fire concentrated beams of fire at any possible foe. it was on that same day when he heard that his favourite hero, Hyperion Star, was badly wounded and was sent to the paragon city hospital. taking the pistol he made his way to the hospital to see how Hyperion Star was doing.
caught in the fateful explosion, Johnny mannaged to emerge without a scratch, but the pistol was destroyed.
it wasn't until a few months later when Johnny started to spontaneously combust now and again. realising his new abilities, he donned the gloves and controlled his fire.
over time, he modified the gloves, making a slot to fire tranq darts and being able to channel the fire energy. he dons the identity of Street Fire and decides to fight for the honour of Hyperion Star until a cure can be found for his condition
there ya go, a little info about Johnny
Nice, Acenra.
I've thought of an addition to the collective bio. The incident in which Hyperion Star has been covered up. After the initial news report - nothing. The PPD has records of the incident at the hospital but no account of the events leading up to it have been found. The weapon and Hyperion Star's body have also disappeared.
At the hospital, we are approached by a member of the medical staff who tells us that other survivors have died in the past year. eg. One sponateously combusted, one froze to death, one died from unexplained radiation sickness, another was entombed in stone. It seems that whatever infected us and gave us powers will also kill us. Maybe today, maybe a year from now. This would create an impetus not only to track down other survivors but to find the villain group responsible for unleashing the weapon in the hope a cure can be found. Rather than pursue our own investigations, it would make sense to band together, pool information, and investigate the various villain groups in Paragon City in the hope of finding a clue to our survival.
Objections?

It's the ol' 'reason to group together' thing! I likey!
Couldn't agree more on the addition. With this recent development I think I'll scrap Jettison and rebuild (quite like the name though so he may just be reborn!) Will create all tonight, boos actually making me do some work - how inconsiderate!
I know what you mean Chove! Damn bosses baking use work when at work! Grrr! 8P But, at least you're not in my position. I'm doing a 6 day week, and only half way through...
Bit I digress. Bio!
Arthur Penningworth-Smythe was an old, frail man . He spent most of his time at the Paragon city hospital, wired up to life support machines. He had been offered the use of the bioregenerators, but turned it down every time. He had been there when the Rikti invasion happened, and he still didn't trust anything based on their technology.
The day that changed him started out like any other for him. Pain, difficulty with breathing, and lapsing in and out of conciousness. But then, Hyperion Star was braught into the hospital, and that's when everything happened.
Arthur doesn't remember much, but he does remember pulling himself out of the rubble, and, more supprisingly, no pain. It was as if his entire body was in a permanent state of suspended animation, yet he could still move, still think, and could feel an ambundance of energy deep within him. It reminded him of his youth.
Making his way back to his old home, he retrieved what remained of his old costume, when he had called himself the Midnight Archer. However, it wasn't until he found he could lower temperatures around himself for breif periods of time that he would have a new name
Moonfrost
Hi Gorbaz,
Is Moonfrost a tanker, blaster or controller?
I'm leaning towards my scrapper now.
Hopefully the other people who expressed an interest are still keen, it would be nice to have six or seven. But four will work well.

Moonfrost is an archer/cold blaster. With glasses 8D
Well, Hyperion was the Greek Titan God of the Sun, so that would suit the Fire/Fire tanker I set up last night - "Sun Spot" perfectly! (Are we going to go with a single origin?)
Some SG name suggestions(?): Hyperonides (the Greek for "Son(s) of Hyperion")
Hyperion's Watchmen (or some synonym of watchmen - as a literal translation of Hyperion is "he who watches from above")
Another possible reference if going down the Hyperion route is that his son Helios (the Sun god) is also referred to in Roman mythology as "Sol Invictus" which means "the undefeated Sun", which I think sounds kinda funky!!
Sorry if I'm being too literal with my suggestions (spot the mythology nut!) - feel free to tell me to shut up and stop being so stupid!!
On another note - are we going to go for a "uniform"?
ie - use same costume settings? Would look awesome for SG missions and photo ops!!
Hey Aero_
Yes, we're going with the science origin. I think we should wait until lvl 20 before having a official SG uniform, but we could wear SG colours until then. We can use one of our higher toons to create the SG then they can quit.
I like all the names you suggested. Hyperion Watchmen and Hyperion Legacy would get my vote.
Glad we have a tanker, I know any combo of ATs can work but it seems more supergroupy to have people with different roles to play.
The "watches from above" could prove good for our story.
On a side note, I have made a level one toon called Hyperion Star to protect the name.

Well, I fancied a change, as I have never played as a tanker AT before. Am really looking forward to being a part of this - bring s a whole new level to the game!
I will reload Sun Spot as a Science origin as I had initially gone with Tech.
As we seem to be leaning towards a Hyperion reference, would it be an idea if everyone had at least some form of Fire related power? (if available for their AT)
well, Johnny Ember is a fire/fire blaster calling him self "Street Flame" so I'm guessing that I don't have to do much on my part for fire powers.
so, by the looks of it, the ATs are
Blaster
Blaster
Tanker
Scrapper
so far we have something to take the damage and three things to deal it, unless I'm missing something out at the moment
Hmmm, well, I suppose I could modify Moonfrost into a fire-based character, or even redo as a defender. I'm ok with anything, and it will be a learning curve for me with the whole defenderising...
Right! I freeded up a few slots, and crafted an alter-version of Arthur Penningworth-Smythe as Luna Flare for if it is decided to all have fire-based powers. Still got the archery, but fire control instead of ice

We also have a controller.
Fire powers are pretty much out for a scrapper. Power-wise, my character was probably the least changed by the incident.

Right - have made myself a fire/kinetic controller - Stardrive. If anyone tells me the name is copyrighted I won't be pleased - tool me about 20 trys to get something I thought suitable! Anyway, bio up soon...
In my experience, it's easier for one to knock up an idea (derived from group info), suggest it and go
"objections?"
This rather then "suggestions?". Although the later might bring slightly better content, the first is a great deal quicker. And with this being the deadline day (though I could be mistaken, not really following the thread), speed is best, imo.
