I just spent 10 minutes writing out a nice long reply, but I think this sums it up perfectly.

To everyone who said there are no rules. I assume you also approve of using mobs to help kill people?

[/ QUOTE ]

Assumption is the mother of all **** ups.

But this drifts toward griefing and gets off topic, the point here is that insps are legal etc. and it's whingers that want to define the 'duel' to best suit them. Not always the case, but certainly regularly.

It's funny, because you can just kill him when they drop.

If it was a 1vs1 arranged Duel, the way i see it should be all powers, no inspirations.

If you were just fighting someone, suck it up and take it like a man.

Ofcourse, when someone has around 20 Respites and 20 Catch a Breaths it does get frustrating v.v

[/ QUOTE ]

No. Any PvP fight should use inspirations. They balance it out. What's a blaster supposed to do against a controller otherwise?

[/ QUOTE ]

And then the troller pops around 10 Robusts, a medium break free, 10 reds and 10 yellows with a purple in there for good measure.

We have a Uber troller tank running Unstoppable, completely mez resistant and hitting the damage/accuracy cap.

Ofcourse your right, inspirations balance everything out, how silly i was for trying to be the voice of reason.

You can't buy inspirations in two of the 4 pvp zones for a reason.

[/ QUOTE ]

phaseshift for 30 seconds and the troller is screwed.

No, that's fine, Phase isn't an inspiration so you can use it all you want without issue.

Well then kudos to the controller for getting 30 seconds of power. Oh noes.

As for duel rules, there's on: There are no rules.

i wonder how long this'll last.
i didn't think you'd be the person to bring up issues of fairness involving using NPCs to atack opponents though Bob

I hope you are not talking about sweet chilli, kins. Because if you think that is her only tactic, then you haven't spent much time in the pvp zones at all.

Plus, I also mob tp too and occassionally, even kill someone all by myself. I do try not to let that happen too often though these days.

All is done perfectly within the EULA and also within what the Dev's have said about the use of drones and NPC's.

*yawn*

No rules, except abide by the simple courtesy of remembering that the character is controlled by a real person.

Mob TP'ing (as bob brought it up) is fine. As with all PVP tactics, when it is used as the sole tactic by an individual, especially with no attempt to actually fight the person you have mob tp'd, it flirts dangerously with the issue of griefing. Intent is key, and broadcast chat is usually a good indicator.

I don't mind being mob or drone tp'd occassionally, as it reminds me to carry a couple of oranges when that tactic is on show. If all the person does is mob tp, with no attempt to actually use their primary or indeed secondary powerset, I'll ignore them and move onto someone who actually *wants* to PVP/stock up on oranges and give them a bloody good beating/organise the team to take them out a couple of times, depending on my own mood.

If you want to duel in the zones, fine. Just don't complain if I barge into the middle of it, slap you about, then sit on your corpse and enjoy a quiet rum of celebration (after taking out any spectators who fail to scatter). In the same way, I won't complain if my attempt to do so fails miserably and I faceplant rapidly

Beyond that, trashtalk, use insps/temp powers/tp foe/comedy bind + emote combos to put off the opponent. If you can't enjoy PVP without set rules, take it to the arena.

Boy am I glad I found this thread. I'm not a PvPer by habit but the number of times I've wandered into RV (the PvP zone I'm most likely to be found in) and had to endure an argument in broadcast about who was picking on who or who fought dirty etc.,

I was beginning to think that the convention was to present yourself to your opponent, ask him, or her, how their day had been and would they care to partake in some friendly fisticuffs to pass the time.

This afforementioned discontent that I seemed to overhear all too often kind of went against my own asumptions that if you're in a PvP zone you're a valid target, no matter the reason for you being there. At least I can dip my toe into the PvP pool a liitle deeper without having to worry about ettiquette too much
