Question! Fire Cages Vs Ice Slick

Hey Guys, im curious to know Since Fire Cages is an immob attack shouldnt ice slick knockdown be still effective? because ice controlers chew my head of when I accidently pick fire cages moments before they decide to use Ice slick...I mean all Fire cages does is stop them running, not like they could any how on a ice slick?

Immobilises stop both knockdown and knockback. Seeing as Ice Slick is all about the knockdown, Fire Cages will stop this happenning, rendering it useless.

Except for the gravity control immobs which don't interfere with knockdown .

The Fire one might do more damage or some such.

Powers may do the same thing and have the same animation, but theyr mainly different.

Bonesmasher = Havoc Punch, but one is disorient, another is sleep, etc etc.

TT is a Cone, Fire Cages is an AoE.

They have different casting animations, different recharge times, different damage scales, different immobilize durations and TT has a -Acc secondary effect.

Just because they share a purpose (AoE Immob) doesn't mean they have to do it excactly the same way. If every power with the same purpose had the excact same stats the game would quickly be boring.

It will prevent knockback for about 10 seconds. It's hardly the end of the world and that ice controller should take a chill pill. I often just use ice slick from out of sight to avoid an alpha strike from tough mobs and then immediately move in and use arctic air and an aoe immob anyway because I want the mobs standing up and attacking each other.

[/ QUOTE ]If the mobs are high level, and the only control on them is ice slick, an AoE immob can easily get a few teammates killed.

Or yourself since Cages is an aggro magnet. I'd always move fire cages away from my main attack row when teamed with a Ice/Earth Controller or an Ice tank.

Forgot this last week, Caged some +3s on a slick by mistake and knew as soon as I pressed the button I was dead.

Preventing Knockback can be great when teamed with Energy Blasters though to stop a debuffed group being scattered. Also for a Fire / Storm a way to limit Tornados knockback must be a handy tool.

Only problem I have found is that while Ice Slick is obviously great, it doesn't set up containment which is a pretty big negative.

Well I've got a Fire/Rad at the mo and I've found that using the first debuffing field from Rad (can't remember its name) loaded with tohit debuffs, Fire Cages and Hot Feet I can do obscene amounts of DoT when I eventually get Envenerating Field at 22 this will get even better.

Its almost reminds me of "Blazing Aura" from my old fire tank.

Way to quote half a post Max! I did give an example immediately after of how it is useful in some cases and then can be unwanted seconds later on the same set of mobs. Obviously, common sense tells you that if ice slick is the one and only thing from stopping "a few teammates getting killed" within 10 seconds then it's a situation where you don't gimp their slick.

I only asked this due to the animations of KD when perfoming of Ice Slick with Fire cages when they fall to the ground I was thinking they would do alot more damage if Fire Cages was stacked on top of them instead of Preventing KD but then again reality doesnt seem to come into affect of games really do they? Besides its not usually the end of the wolrd when I do cast fire cages on top of ice slick these days since I have my hot feet and fire imps to dish out the damage things doesnt seem to be as boring as they used to before I respec
