Black hole

Does anyone use it? I know most people dismiss it straight away and I know it's a situational power that has to be used carefully but I am tempted by it. There have been a few occasions the last couple of days where phase shifting an entire group would have saved my bacon.

On paper I can't see any obvious problems with it but wondered if anyone had much practical experience?

It works great as a panic buttin, and I would take it with my MM if I could spare the slot. One thing to note is that intangibility enhancements do not boost the duration of the power, but rather the magnitude.

Black Hole and Dimension shift are potentially the best powers in the game and certainly the best o sh** button there is (from a team persepective).

Its just they are also potentially the most frustrating button (when it hits everything) and the most useless (when it hits nothing)..

When they hit 50% you can effectively fight half the mob at a go... what power beats that?

Never been a fan of it. I have said before I can see it having its uses as a panic button though. The problem is all the other powers from Dark Miasma set are worth taking so its always at the bottom of the list for me simple because it has a long recharge, costs a fair bit of end and doesnt last very long. So in my opinion it really is only useful as a panic button when the brown stuff hits the fan.

Aggroing two groups is not that unusual so I saw a potential handy power for those occasions. Plus on more than a few occasions I could have done with a bit of space to tp dead bodies to me and get the team back on it's feet after one of those 'it's all going wrong' moments.

So how does intangibility magnitude work then? I'm guessing bosses and the like are more resistant so you have to have higher Mag to hit them?

Tada! You got it! See you don't have a controller in your alts list so I'll forgive ya Off the top of my head Lts are Mag 2, Bosses Mag 3, AVs Mag 4, not sure about other players in PvP/Arena. 2 applications of a mag 2 (from 2 controllers say) will hold a mag 3, etc...

Learn something new everyday.

So I never really bothered with the dynamics of holds but knew that stacking was the only way to hold bosses and the like. Still not sure I get intangibilty tho. With the default slot slotted for intangibility I can happily phase bosses. I'm guessing the power is Mag 2 but one slot would make it Mag 2.6 (boosted by 33%). Hows that work?

So what slotting would people use? One acc and one intangibility?

Pretty certain controller holds are mag 3. Otherwise bang on the money. (the reason you need two holds to mez a boss are you need to top the mag resist i.e mag 3 hold + mag 3 hold = mag 6, boss held. mag 3 hold and blaster mag 1 hold, such as freeze ray also = held boss, as you have applied mag 4 between you. Every now and then, a hold will 'crit', and do a higher level of magnitude, allowing you to hold a boss, or even an AV in one shot Especially funny with confuse )

For PvP, depends on what you are trying to mez, and the level of protection they have.

For things like blackhole, I'd assume a maximum of mag 2, maybe mag 3, so able to intangiblise minions, and some lts (if it 'crits') - putting intangibility enhances in will boost you to a higher magnitude, so would allow lts to be held easily, perhaps bosses, with the occasional Elite Boss/AV if you get lucky.

IIRC, It hits minions and lt's by default, so one slot gets bosses as well. I think you can get AV's with 2 slots, or possibly 3, but haven't tested personally.

Thanks for that everyone. Seems unslotted I can phase -1 bosses so it must be Mag 3. Couldn't phase even level bosses. Going to need two slots if I want it to work on +3 bosses... Least I know not to bother with recharge now.

On a side note, seems you can target and apply darkest night to a phased mob ready for when they come out of it. Quite handy.

Do defenders get crit holds? Good point on the Mag resistance tho...

[/ QUOTE ]Only controllers do AFAIK.

Yeah, should have made that clear - my main is a troller so my knowledge of mag comes from there... pretty certain that defender/corruptor/mm holds don't 'crit'. Having said that, I never rely on it happenening on my troller, it is just nice when it happens

When testing this earlier I did try it on three even level rikti mesmerists. The combat window said I phased one of them but he didn't look very phased to me (plus I died very shortly afterwards). Could have been a critical tho....
