Fusion FM
I like the idea it makes things a lot easier, but I'd like to make a suggestion.
Not all heroes know Pious, but almost everyone knows Herocorpse and freedomcorpse. Perhaps weaving them into the background, might give more people an ic reason to join?
Sounds like this could be a heroic version of Radio Free Opportunity... Except without the whole allusion that you've gone crazy and the radio is talking specifically to you...
If you don't know what I'm on about, one of the CoV mission contacts in Port Oakes is a radio that talks to you. You're never quite sure if it's just you...
Good luck with it!
Radio says kill... *evil grin*
I'm interested. Have you got anything decided for how to identify heroes that belong to the same account? I've got 2 or 3 IC heroes that would listen in on the channel, and only one of them is Hikari-Hime
Maybe you could add some tag before your message to the channel to identify your hero. "<Pyranha> Requesting aid with Vahzilok."
Great to see this idea being implemented, I be sure to join.
Pyranha
Depends on how inclusive you want to be. You can make the channel invite only, at which point a mod has to be on to let new people in, or you can make the channel public, in which case I suggest a fair few trusted mods to enforce the channel staying IC - Murphey's law says in any open RP channel, griefers will think it's funny to ruin it.
Yeah. I think Max and SHANNON will help me try mod the channel.
I've recently learnt to join public channels.
It appears one could simply type /Chan_Join Fusion FM to use this little in-character broadcasting tool.
The channel is now up for thos that wish to join. I'll go to GG now and inform people.

Before you run off and make something that isn't finished, please try and finish the concept before starting it. I can understand you're enthousiastic, but I emphasize this, as I would like to see this work, rather than flop (as I said, I might be interested, so it's partly self-interest too ).
Racing ahead with something without having a basic strategy plan, or just winging it, might put you before things you had not thought of before and might give you trouble.
Okay. Thanks again Aisla. You really are 'mum' aren't you. Heh.
Okay.. here it goes. In-character dialogue explains the story behind this new emergency channel for heroes.
[Newspaper Clipping]
Fusion FM is a radio frequency created by the hero called Atlantic. It has since been used amongst a small group of vigilantes to radio in emergencies, like the PPD would do through their in-car walkie-talkies.
Here at Hero Corps, we believe such a channel can be of great use to the heroing community. We will be taking control over it from today, and hope to inform all the brave heroes of our city of this tool.
It has recently been reported that the criminal masterminds behind Radio Free Opportunity often hijack the frequency. Hopefully, with our specialist monitoring the channel, such disturbances will be no more.
Mostly for security purposes, we strictly advise all users of the frequency to keep messaging to the minimum, the channel should only be used for emergency situations and team recruitment.
There are many ways to join the channel, most do so telepathically, some use super powers, antennaes and the sort, but for the more natural hero, simply key the following codes into a mobile phone: /Chan_Join Fusion FM.
Thank You.

Cheers mate! Already there!
As this fills every need of my IC chat channel concept except for lenghty chats I'll put my channel concept into ice for the time being. I'll resurrect it if there rises a need that isn't met by other means.
Good going!
Question, is the channel called "Fusion FM" or "FusionFM"?
When broadcasting over any given global channel there are 3 ways.
1) right klick the chatwindoe, and change the outgoing channel (and back again after you're done)
2) have that the global channel the default channel on the active tab in your chatwindow, and click the "active tab" button (the A on the far right of the lettered buttons)
2) use a command.
/send "global channel name" message
this way, the [message] will be broadcast over "global channel name". But if you have no spaces in the global channel name, it becomes a tad bit simpler...
/send globalchannelname message
No more need for the " ", I can hear people thinking "so what". yes, well... those people are probably english where just hitting that key will punch up that character.
In other parts of Europe (at the very least in the Netherlands) it's been made easy to type ëöï type letters, by hitting " followed by the E or so.
Long story short.... FusionFM is easier to type than "Fusion FM"...

I think what Ghosty means, is; isn't it easier to leave the space in between out, to prevent people from typing in the wrong channel as they franticly compose their ic message?
[ QUOTE ]
Hehe. It's simply Fusion FM.
I guess a message would go:
/send Fusion FM 'Dr. Vahzilok is back again?! Hero requesting back up! I am Nightshade, clearance level thirty-two, I repeat, hero requesting bac... AAAHHH!'
Kinda thing.. right?
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually.. it would be:
/send "Fusion FM" Dr. Vahzilok is back again?! Hero requesting back up! I am Nightshade, clearance level thirty-two, I repeat, hero requesting bac... AAAHHH!
I do like the idea actually... But Ghost has a point with the " characters. On non-english keyboards, it can be a pain!

No, it's already running now so there'd be no point I think.
But it's something to remember for future channels.. Avoid the space in the name!

Apologies if I sound overly bossy. The following is just a *suggestion*, please debate, cut into pieces, throw bits away and keep the good stuff if there is any.
We need a set of conventions, I suggest the following highly influenced by IRC Ill admit.
Standard transmissions should contain some or all of the following:
In triangle brackets, the character (not global handle) sending the message. A decision needs to be taken if this handle is IC or OC if its IC I suggest the convention of someone hiding their identity putting something about the voice in there, if its OC just put Anon or something like that.
In asterisks, information about background sounds. This can be things like gunshots in the background, information about the voice, information about the transmission. Basically anything thats IC info that isnt spoken.
In double brackets, necessary OOC information. This should be kept to a minimum, all I can think of for this is stuff like ((all exemp/sk slots currently full))
For example:
@Hikari-Hime: <Subject Anjel>*gunshots and crashing in background* Hero needs assistance, SL 10, outcast rave in progress ((1 exepm/sk currently available))
@Hikari-Hime: <Deep husky voice> *crackles over transmission, no trace possible* A bomb will explode in the Mitasuna Technology offices in 30 minutes ((/t Senoi for invite))
Ultimately it doesnt matter what convention everyone uses, so long as everyone uses the same one (or at least ones similar enough to preserve clarity)
With regards to moderators, there need to be a fairly large number of them, whos job will be mainly to make sure that the conventions are followed, probably by a polite tell to any offenders with a reminder how the channel is supposed to be used, and the power to silence anyone misusing it.
Long OOC conversations about the football spring to mind, along with deliberate griefers, and those who stumble on the channel without actually knowing what it is.
My 2 inf, maybe theres something worth saving in there.
Because most of us are at work/on test

From all the recent ideas of a server-wide in-character communication tool, came 'Fusion FM'.
Basically, this is a channel that I intend to form. It'll be used for roleplayers looking for in-character missions.
To invite as many people from our little RP community would be great! SHANNON has offered to help me co-moderate, we'll be there to explain the use of the channel to newcomers, but also to maintain calm and efficient use of the LFT broadcasting.
Any opinions or evaluation of this idea should be discussed privately, please.
This thread is intended only to inform and answer questions.
Have a read through the in-character dialogue below for details. (I'm now late for work. I'll be back at 6pm)

Dear Pious,
How is London? I have no doubts that you're keeping in shape. I send greetings to your family, and a special hello to your sister. Louis weren't it?
Anyhow, moving on to more pressing matters, I stumbled across a frequency this evening and overheard The Oxford Scythe broadcast a call for help. He said "Hero requesting immediate assistance, security level thirty-two" and shortly after, there was a reply; "Crimson Infernos, on duty".
What is this channel and how can I use it?
Your sidekick,
Gotann.

Dear Gotann,
Last month, the hellion superhero known as The Atlantic created a frequency modulation called Fusion FM. It has since been used by heroes to call out to each other.
Just send an e-mail to @Atlantic Gotann, and he'll send you a code. Punch that into any communications device (mobile phones seem most effective) and you should be open to use the channel.
But you must know, it has become tradition to only use short coded language as demonstrated by Oxford and Crimson. Also, the channel is not used for anything but emergencies and team recruitment, so I'd keep the flirting to an absolute minimum. I know what you're like over the air!
I meant to tell you this before retiring, but it slipped my mind. London is beautiful as ever, thanks for asking. There's certainly less crime, so I have plenty of time to spend with family.
Yours truly,
Pious Hunter.
