In Character Meet Up!

In an effort to promote In Character gameplay I have the following suggestion:

How about anyone who wants to play IC and form teams meets in Galaxy City at around 7pm, give or take 15 mins. I'll suggest a specific spot later but it'll be somewhere around Hero Corps. You could call back at 9pm for a chat. Maybe wander over to the GG crowd to say hello.

I've suggested an earlier time to appeal to people who want to get on missions and patrolling.

I hope this helps people.

GG is used for FAR more than just IC chat you know. Yes it's turned out to be mainly the heroe's "off" time, but you also get a LOT of people meeting up there before going off to do missions.

I don't know if you're actually aware of the history of GG, but it was originally a meeting place for heroes to gather, pool information, and then go get the bad guys, pretty much exactly what you're proposing here, and was all started by a hero called Prize. The time was chosen mainly so that people could get things like dinner time, putting kids to bed, OOC missions etc, dealt with before moving on to some RP.

Galaxy City was chosen mainly due to the large number of disruptive players you generally find in Atlas.

Not trying to step on your idea and all that, but really; it's been done already.

Fair comment Floating, I'm just putting another option out there. If people benefit from it then great; if not, nothing's lost. I'm certainly in favour of peole going to chat with the GG crowd!

Thing is, it's REALLY nice that you're enthusiastic about RPing, but the community is not very large as it. More gatherings will reduce the size of the ones we already have.

A few weeks ago there was a little squabble amongst all the GGers. Us longer-term GG residents decided to go RP elsewhere so that there was no more trouble. In the end, we didn't. IMO, mainly cause the group would have been too small, and it limits your RPing. GG has a fairly good sized community base, but not large enough for multiple meeting places I think...

EDIT: A suggestion... I know you usually log by 9, but try turning up at GG one night and appealing to some fellow heroes for some assistance in a mission. I think you'll find a few takers...

Okay, I certainly don't want to make things difficult. Should I delete my post comments? I don't mind. How about opening up the GG crowd to a 7pm meet aswell so people can do some early gaming, maybe meet back at 9pm? If we're familiar with being there at the start of the night we're probably more likely to return at the end.

I suppose having a different meeting place than GG is okay.

However, I suggest to stick to Galaxy City rather than choosing Atlas. As it will allow people to easily go from one place to the other.

What i cannot understand however is why not make Pocket D the place to meet and socialize, it seems to be much more suitable and allows a wide range of character levels to move in with relatively ease, find people to roleplay and team with IC and then simply to move on. A bar/disco seems to me a much better place when it comes to social interaction, finding new contacts and recruit possible teammates, as it appeals to broader audience and offers more posssibilities to start with. Opinions may differ however

Sounds like a good idea but I've never heard of Pocket D--I'm not a very experienced player.

On the Galaxy Girl side of things, the reasons why we don't use Pocket D:

1.) A lot of GG characters are level one alts, purely for RP purposes, and even that little stretch from the KR train station to the PD entrance can be dangerous at times

2.) In character, there's a lot of people at GG who would *never* go to a bar/club like Pocket D, they're not that sort of person

3.) Unofrtunately, Pocket D is also a place where unfriendly and deliberately annoying players can be found at times, which ruins the RP experience (Admittedly, we get a few at GG from time to time, but nowehere neara s frequent as the Pocket D visits)

I've actually tried to get people to turn up a little earlier before, 8pm was my suggestion, as some people are on the continent, especially a player I RP most of the time with. It went OK for a bit, then kinda slipped back again...

Certainly can't hurt to try though!

As well as Max's excellent reasons, there's also the fact that GG has a long established history as to the reasons for meetings there. Pocket D does not.

I've changed my very first post on the thread to support the Galaxy Girl tradition rather than detract from it. I hope this is a better idea as far as you're concerned.

Here's a suggestion, maybe you guys could meet infront or inside the Hero Corp Building?

You aren't too far from us if you want to interact, but nobody can get into each others way too.

I'll have a look in Galaxy tonight and pick a spot; I haven't got access to the game at the moment.

Once you have decided on details and such, I'd very much much like to see In-Character invitation to it. Is it "Are you feeling lonely? Tired of bashing Hellions on your own? NO MORE! Come to Place X and find your own adventuring buddy, side-kick, or mentor! United we stand stronger!" Or more like "In dire need of heroes on these specific missions, volunteers meet up at Place X."

I would like my characters to have a context on why they are going on specific place to look for teammates (although on most nights 7pm is too early for me ). On GG meets, it is "A place where heroes go chill out and chat" that is just spread through word of mouth (that's how I've played it anyhow).

I hope this too takes off

Thanks Blackdove, we'll just see how it goes. I suppose it'll take off if people want it to.

Many players dislike Pocket D for reasons not tied to character concepts.
Like becoming mad because of the constant music, tired of seeing a group of zombies dancing around them because a mastermind wanted to show how cool zombies are when they dance (because, you know, before that mastermind arrived, noone ever saw zombies dancing).
There are also technical issues for players running CoH on old computers (like me).

Finally, Pocket D being also used as a convenient shortcut from one place to the other, you have people with a totally different mindset than roleplayers coming through, when it's less frequent almost anywhere else.
At times, I find Pocket D close to a (real) train station. And a (real) train station with people passing around is not the best place for me to socialize.

Pocket D is a nice place but I won't go there regularly.

(above is only my opinion)

In Character Meet Up!

THIS REPLACES THE VERY FIRST POST OF THIS THREAD

In an effort to promote In Character gameplay I have the following suggestion:

How about anyone who wants to play IC and form teams meets in Galaxy City at around 7pm, give or take 15 mins. The spot is in front of Back Alley Brawler, down the steps and in the open paved area. You could call back at 9pm for a chat. Maybe wander over to the GG crowd to say hello.

I've suggested an earlier time to appeal to people who want to get on missions and patrolling.

I hope this helps people.

Is this on Onion or Deviant? If its Deviant I may lumber along with a bot. i'm not really up to full on RPing but the chance to flesh Maloth out (as much as you can flesh out a metal man) would be nice.

Okay, question. If it is going to be at 7, why not just add it onto GG? Just start at 7, at GG. It might get GG started earlier, which is something many people have been asking for anyway. Then either people can go on patrols, or they can stay at GG.

It's at Union.

The different location is in response to a comment by RedCommissar about Keeping out of each other's way if we want, and being close enough to mingle if we want.

Thanks to General Roleplay for coming to say hi last night. There was also a crazy green hulk impersonator who was entertaining.

But that is just one person's opinion, this is mine. I think that before anyone moves anything anywhere, you need to bare in mind the opinions of all those directly or indirectly involved.

I do bare everyone's opinion in mind but the best I can do is go with those I agree with. This should not do any harm to the GG crowd and anyone who isn't interested doesn't need to have anything to do with it. I haven't moved anything so much as given another option.

I think you're contradicting yourself here, mate. No offence, but how can you say in the same sentance that you listen to everyone's opinion, but go with the one you agree with.

Sorry, but that's dictatorship.
