Im new this game and just got to lvl 10. i made a tanker stone armor and mace. so when i was looking at forums i saw a guide sayin mace is really weak so i wanted to ask if thats really true and should i make a new tanker and if so then what should i choose instead of mace?

It depends what you want to do with your tanker. If you want to contribute a lot to the team damage dealing ability then mace isn't a good choice. If you want to hold aggro and control the mobs a little through knockback and disorient then mace is fine. I took my mace tank to 50 (soloing about 75% of the time) so even though the damage isn't great it's not all that bad either.

I like the idea of the mace but I'm not keen on the model.

Generalissimo_2 I'm surprised to see that you soloed for 75 percent of the time. I soloed a lot when i first played the game but try to avoid it now. Is your approach common?

It's only common amongst the anti-social
I'm not really anti-social, I just tend to enjoy soloing more and build all my characters to be able to solo e.g. Illusion/Kinetics controller soloed about 75% of the time on my way to 50, two scrappers soloed almost exclusively to the low 30's and then teamed a little more in the mid-30's, my latest project a Forcefield defender soloed almost all the way to lvl 18 so far. I do enjoy teaming occasionally and am quite capable of adding good value to a team with my tanker, controller and spines scrapper but soloing is more my thing.

I'd say it's pretty common based on some peoples violent anti-teaming searchbox messages but a lot of the time it's nice to solo just for one mission then log off.

I'd also like to use this reply to further push my theory that all of Doc's questions are forwarded in such a way that there would appear to be some of book/article/report to evil overlord being written using the responses.

I probably need to get my head examined but I'm very tempted to start a second macer (ice/mace this time) in Issue 7

If we were living in the time of I4, that combo wouldve spawned a number of men in white labcoats.. Now it might be possible to play. Hey, you could be the lvl 50 first Ice/macer on defiant?

I don't really see the issue with ice/mace or mace either. Avoid the knockback attacks, avoid the knock up one too as the damage looks pants. Take all the disorient attacks and use CE and taunt to hold the aggro.
I know i'll be carrying on my ice/mace when i can find a decent team to level with.

the knockup attack "jawbreaker" is an awesome attack which should not be missed at all.

The knockup power with the "pants" damage (Jawbreaker) is a macer's second most damaging attack Avoiding both the knockback attacks might also be a bad move as one of them (Shatter) is a macer's most damaging attack and the other (Crowd Control) does damage comparable to Pulverise, but to up to 5 foes. Jawbreaker, Shatter and Crowd Control are probably my three favourite mace attacks - my mace seems somewhat powerful and dynamic when using them.

I couldnt help myself but get first hand experience of mace on test, i made an invuln mace tank called macey and trotted off to warburg where i would have memories of fighting at lvl 40 with a tank through exemping down, otherwise i'd of been stuck for comparing to my inv/ss a year ago.

I have to say i was pleasantly surprised, its not as bad as i thought it maybe from what people say. Yeah there is slightly less in the way of damage but the disorienting secondary effects are nice, knock up is fine, whirling mace fine but the knockback in crowd control? i'm sorry but when ive knocked half the spawn out of my aura as much as that i am none too please, if anything it should be called "dont crowd control", well atleast they come back...sometimes.
Well anyway i thought with all the lackings the mace set can have it doesnt deserve any penalties and knockbacks messes any attack chain up for anyone as well meaning reherding unless its to walls. If it had done disorient instead of knockback that would be more fitting to the power name imo and better for balancing the set to others. I mean a cone disorient has simply got to be nice.

The figures i had looked at previously for clobber were wrong and so i was expecting a very good disorient out of it, i didnt see a "wow" disorient but i do think the disorient is good enough for what the power does and costs, well i would be slotting it.

Its very comparable to battle axe imo but makes up for lack of damage with secondary effects and secondary effects increase survivability (if the foe doesnt resist it).

All in all i thought it was a great set and was really fun to play too.

Heh, it's nice to see positive reports about Mace coming out of RV testing. I almost collapsed in laughter yesterday evening while trawling through the US forums and I saw a thread entitled:

Tried level 40 Mace on Test...ROFLMAO!!!!111!lol!!

I read that too, I however went and tanked with it.

Someone said in that post "At least mace does more damage than Ice... and doesnt put minions to sleep... lol..."

but look at ice's ice patch which really does add alot to survivability, its less damaging because it offers more survivability but people just like to see orange figures flying.

Yup, I've always told people that mace is fine as a powerset if you want to tank. Ice is another pretty nice secondary (in my limited RV level bump experience anyway) that seems to get a lot of stick just because it doesn't do a load of damage. The ice/mace tank I was mulling over creating in Issue 7 is now going to be an ice/ice tank instead.
