Can someone pls explain me about bases?
Hi.
1.) You have to pay rent once a month if you own a base at all, but I don't know exactly what rent is based on. I'd like an answer to that myself. I think it is based on total prestige amount you own. whether in base or just on your bankroll.
2.) When Issue 7 comes, you will have some cheap functional items to build, the inspiration, enhancement and salvage storage.
Currently though, there isnt much, because you will need a generator room with basic generator, control room with mainframe before you can build anything else functional (these items, generator and mainframe, produce energy and control that most other functional items need before they function).
My personal opinion is, that after you have had your energy and control sorted out (unfortunately that may take a long time) you should build a workshop to build basic telepads which are the most useful actually functioning items in my opinion. Then build transport room to put the telepads into.
And don't bother building mission computer, it is useless.

well, we evil ppl can actually use that for the SF, so thats not useless
regarding rent, its based on the total amount of pres it costs+pres in ur pocket, so if u have a base, but dont build anything, the rent will still increase as u earn more pres. (which is kinda stupid) U should consider ur SGs ability to earn pres before starting a base. since when u fail to pay rent, all ur equipment will stop working. i dunno if the rent will add up as well, as u fail to pay on a regular basis.
i do belive rent is payed every 2 weeks, 2 times / month.
Just finished fitting my mainframe - now I just need the generator - only 221,000 prestige to go

I'm the other way around, have the generator, just need the prestige for the control (unfortunately thought I might get away with one of the cheapist 30K/32K control bits), so another while yet before I can build a workshop and start enjoying base functionality. The need for more prestige (need ~90K for control, then can save for the workshop and workbench, assuming I don't spend too much on the storage gear from I7) has motivated me to put my alt-itis into remission for the moment though so Gravecall can farm as much prestige as possible, might get near lv 40 before I7 afterall.
If you're a startup SG I'd really recommend waiting for Issue Seven for creating a base.
A functional I7 base requires no energy or control - just a workshop, then the storage items and buff creator (which can process Salvage).
This gives a functional base for minimal outlay. You can then spend time on building up the other things.
For a fully functional I6-style PvE base you're looking at around 1mil Prestige to get up and running.
The "once a month" rent thing is, if you'll excuse my harshness, a load of rubbish.
8/5/06 to 20/5/06 is NOT 1 month by anyone's reckoning. That is the date I had to pay rent by for my last payment and the date of my next "demand". Is this because I pay rent early? Does the "month" start from the day I pay it? Should I be waiting until 20/5/06 to pay the latest request?

I believe rent is every two weeks, not monthly.
...and if you don't pay it, the debt is capped at one months worth of rent.

Strange world where you're rewarded for being bad
For the rent, that's more a tax than a rent, since it's actually based on your capital, not the things which are in your base. Although you don't pay that tax unless you have a base. again...
You can pay your rent only once in a month if you wait for the base to be non functional (when the power goes down).
I read this on the US forums.
Don't pay rent for 6 weeks after the notice comes up.
The reasoning was along the lines of:
1. The next rent payment comes up one month after you pay it
2. Your base is still fully functional for a month after the message comes up
3. The rent does not increase if you pay it late
I'll try to hunt down the source. It might be old though and out of date with I7, I'm not sure.
Oh, and yeah, I7 will be much friendlier to smaller SGs, I think something along the lines of 3 or 4 people getting a (semi-)functional(/useful) base in a month of average play.
Shrug. Lemme see if I can dig up that link. If anyone else wants to search while I'm at it, feel free

So I can sell my mainframe and buy something else?

Oops you may be correct. My bad.
Indeed, they start asking for rent two weeks after you paid the last lot (even if you paid the last lot two weeks early), but it's not due for two weeks after that, and you don't suffer any penalties for either two or four weeks after that.
Essentially it is borked, and you make a massive saving if you don't pay anything until it is well over due.
NOTE: This does not work for your gas bill. Trust me on this.
Dead Calm's Defender Manifesto
That exactly seems to be the problem/issue!
They give you a 'warning' that your rent is coming due, 2 weeks before it is due, and then 4 weeks after the due date your power gets cut off.
The problem being that if you pay when the warning comes up, the next 4weekly bill starts immediately, which means that 2 weeks later you get the next warning! It looks like you pay rent every 2 weeks, because noone realises that it is just a notice rather than the 'PAY ME' that you expect to see. Gah. It's so clear now.
So by waiting the 2 weeks till your rent is actually due, then waiting 4 weeks after that before your base is shut down, you get a free month, and it's far less than it would be if it worked it out at the time you paid it!
Wow!
Thanks for the explanation Dead_Calm, you've clarified it for me very well, now I can actually explain to the other leaders why rather than just saying 'because I was told it was the best way to save prestige', lol.

Em, I thought the workbench did require some control and energy to operate?
A workbench does. An empowerment station doesn't, and it can process salvage.
The only need after I7 for Tables/Forges will be for creating other base items. Which aren't really needed for a starter SG (Hospitals are better than Med Bays, Teleporters of limited use)
Ah, I see, hmm... think I'll still try go for the workbench too, like any proper villain my greed and delusions of self grandeur shall be my downfall.
If you have a base with no (game)functionality, pay the rent only when you're locked out (every 6 weeks or so, I believe)
If you have a base with (game)functionality, and you want to keep those active... I believe you have to pay every 2 weeks. Sadly, I have no memory of testing this (me and my SG use the telepads regularly)

If you have nothing useful to say, you have two choices: Say something useless or stay quiet.
I'm pretty sure at the 6 week mark (ie 4 weeks after the rent is technically due), the power and control goes off, and that's when you lose your functionality. And then another 4 weeks after that you are locked out.
I know that my base rent is due, we've had the 'you owe rent' pop up for a couple of weeks now at least, and I was still using our base teleporters just this morning, in fact.
I could be mistaken about when things happen, but it is something similar to what I have up there.
Shrug.
Can someone just clarify, then, what exactly I would need for a Post I7 Base? I Mainly just want it for the Teleporters & Insp/Enhancement/Salvage Banks/Bins

The rent is only actually due after four weeks. It works more or less* like this:
*Not fully tested this.
What most people do is this:
End of Week 1: Nothing
End of Week 2: Message comes up saying your rent is due on XX/XX/XX. This date is in two weeks time. They pay the rent immediatly. The rent counter resets.
End of Week 3: Nothing
End of Week 4: Message comes up saying your rent is due on XX/XX/XX. This date is in two weeks time. They pay the rent immediatly. The rent counter resets.
End of Week 5: Nothing
End of Week 6: Message comes up saying your rent is due on XX/XX/XX. This date is in two weeks time. They pay the rent immediatly. The rent counter resets.
What people should do:
End of Week 1: Nothing
End of Week 2: Message comes up saying your rent is due on XX/XX/XX. This date is in two weeks time.
End of Week 3: As week 2.
End of Week 4: Message turns into something along the End of lines of "Your rent is now due". Nothing stops working.
End of Week 5: As week 4
End of Week 6: Stuff stops working. The SG have a look down the back of the sofa, and scrounge cash from their gran and pawn their playstation 2. This lets them pay the rent. Stuff starts working again. The rent counter resets.
Therefore, as they are paying roughly one third of the rent, fiscally irresponsible student type SGs will eventually emerge as the major sources of capital within CoX.

Teleporters still require at least
energy room+basic generator
control room+main-frame
and transport room for the telepads.
Plus you need workshop room and basic forge/worktable to build the telepads from salvage, but you can sell it once you get the telepads and swap workshop room into transport room.
If storage bins wont need energy/control as it looks like, you only need a room to put them into and Im not sure if entrance room is eligible.
Wildly off topic, but still base related - aren't there any doors available? Does ever corridor and hall just lead into a room with no door or gateway or anything between?

Hi,
I tried to understand how bases work from FAQs and stuff, but I still don't understand some basic things.
1. I read of rent I have to pay. Based on what is this rent, do I have to pay it even if I place only decorative things, to use our base for RP, or only when there are functional items? If I don't pay, will the base be closed?
2. What basic, useful items can be placed in a base, with low cost for a small SG?
Any advise of building a small base would be most welcome. ^^
