PvP Arena Weekly Workshop - Tuesday Nights

yea, its the team-thing we need practice on and there where imo too many brutes.. this time we had 2 MM tho and that was interesting. but as Kinslayer said, there wasnt much learning in the direction that we where aiming for. I was top killer in 2 fights, and that is not supposed to be, if fights have higher lvl of class (sorry for offending any1, not player skill, but team skill/config. As a MM i should under no curciumstances be top killer in team-PvP)
regarding complaints, i can only remeber 1 doing so, and he had totally missunderstood the entire concept of the event, so i wouldnt bother much with him. lets try and recruit more ppl of non-melee ATs for next week, since its great fun having true pentad teams. c ya next week

u dont need pentad teams to learn, although even teams helps a lot. but any team matches shud help u learn to survive and what u can/cant do.
concerning ur top kills u r exactly right, i fought in one match and i think the score, if u take my score out, was pretty even with top on both teams getting 8 kills. i cud only see one team mate out of 4 so had no idea who was getting targetted (basically i was acting as solo) and i got 19 kills as a MM, this is far too many. If i cud suggest any tips it wud be to no who to target and when u attack someone keep on them, also it is ok to run away, only one of my targets attempted to run and i was attacked only once because i was in the air.
edit: please dont take that in a bad way, its supposed to be constructive criticism post any questions if u need any help
the reason for MMs getting too high scores are easy.. they dont get killed and target flees when injured, not after putting attack/buff... i used my MM in tons of diff ways in PvP, and when fighting big numbers, MMs are great at killstealing, or better put: finisher. ur own team will wear out the target to a point where he flees. as he flees, melee usually cant get to him, and ranged (like corrs) only get 1 shot before hes out of range (or LoS). Using bots, this is the perfect time to strike. Ur pets wont loose eye-contact (since its AI) and will fire multiple attacks and deal massive DoT/stuns making it hard to predict. its pertty hard to shake off bots and when u think u have, they sneak up from behind and take u by suprise. in conclusion this means that MMs arent bad in anyways, but really strong in getting kills, the team otherwise usually miss (note i said usually). So even if the MM alone cant do his kill numbers justice, he provides team with alot of kills, team otherwise would be without.
However, the MMs awesome precision in getting kills can easely be crushed, by simply attacking the MM. even tho u might not kill him, u distract him, making pets fight blindfolded and unefficient. most often the MM will also retract his pets to defend him (and if the attacker is a melee, this can take alot of time for the MM) and this will lower his (and teams) killrate.
this isnt 100% applying to all situations.. but in my experience, no matter how u play, or team strength, this is the common result. a MM that can act freely, will go on a killing spree, and out-score any other AT. (in general, alot of exceptions out there)
Just a quick post guys to say I won't be able to make it this week as I have an SF to do.
Bit of a shame as you won't be able to rack up a ridiculous number of kills at my face planting expense
However, I am toying with the idea of copying my lvl 40 fire/thermal over to test and respeccing him for PvP to take part in the international night.
I won't be able to make it either (again). Sorry!
Its such a shame because if was abit more organised we could easily create various pvp builds and see what actually works well in pvp by taking advantage of the test server - as I am sure you are aware you can create any toons and get them to lv 40. Would have been nice to have 2 pvp teams going at each other and would also give a great opportunity to see how heroes vs villains fair at the same level with no advantages such as more enhancements, more levels and accolades.

Hmm,
I can be about tonight from about 17.30 until 19.00(Ice Mistral SF tonight) to run some tests.
I'll holler when I get in tonight on the Leader channel and see if we can get a few of us to have a few quick battles.
I have PvP builds of spine/regen, illu/storm, ninja/energy and PB ready to go.
Will think on some sets this afternoon and see if we can get anything done with such short notice.
Would like to try some sort */rad, */ice heavy corruptor team against a standard PvP Pentad team. Say 2 rads, 1 ice, 1 thermal and a brute(think we may be able to find an elec/elec on test if luck ) or stalker against an empath, storm, ice/en, tank and regen.
Will be interesting to see if it would be as one sided as previous hero/villain fights.
well, we did try some various PvP-builds on test, and actually, it was very disturbing trying to lead a bunch of hyper-active ppl, crazed about being able to 'bump' to lvl 40... i find it has some serious testing flaws, such as actually being familiar with the sets u have and its performance (the regular skill u get when lving). i did some dif sets mostly based on sets i know from before, and i can say my sonic/thermal (defender style) fas really great and hardly died at all. tho, its hard to see how much it helped, since either we where 4 villains against 20 heroes, or the other way around.. the only real testing was how good the build was on surviving lol.... anyway... c ya tuesday =)
it should be added that 80% of heroes where spines/* scrappers and 10% stone tanks, villain side wasnt much better with 60% elec/elec brutes and 20% thug-MM and 10% stone brutes.... some ppl dont have the imagination or skill to try something diff lol... still was fun tho
Yup definetely fun, but I agree, true testing is hard to do. On an 8 man team I'd be lucky if there were 3 people playing like a team.
Hi sorry if this is going off topic but do you still do the Pvp Night at the arena on Teusdays? Ive only just joined the forum so im not really sure how long ago the topic was started and in the mass of posts wether you had stopper bothering? If you do still do I think it would be quite good for a few of the bigger SG's to do it regularely, it would add a bit more spice to the competition and rivalry.
well, i cant see any reason why not.. its fun and educational... i will atleast be there, and im sure a few other will be as well... so dont hesitate to swing by.. we usally send a reminder through UL just before we start... see u there
It's still ongoing
We try to get as many people as possible along, regardless of PvP experience. It's a good chance for people getting into PvP to come for advice as well as we have a little chat after each match to decide what worked and what didn't.
On a related not, I'll be there from 19.30 tomorrow and am hoping for a good turnout as it's last practice session before thw 3vP tournament.
If you can round up your team mates for first round and want to practice, bring them along
nice turnup last night, and i hope it will keep this up.. now i tested my therm corr in both RV and arena, and so far id say its working as planned.. died once in 2 matches and was able to heal/buff pretty good.. team was a bit spread out at times which made it tricky.
I would like some reflections tho, from both sides, on how much effect this corr has tho.. in theory its massive, since i can perma-forge 3 ppl and keep thaw on entire team + shields and heals... but will this actually turn the battle and result in victory in a way that other corrs couldnt or is te sets really minor issue, and just the fact that i was alive the most important part?
since we lack doms in this training, im gonna respec my Dom to fit PvP, and bring him next week..
Without a doubt, he made a huge difference for me. When we had the 2 on 2 against the kinetics, during the whole 10 minute fight, I think I had 2 'gaps' in Thaw and the slow effect of the kins was a killer.
Also, when I was 'forged' it was pretty noticeable. I have three attacks, Ice Bolt, Ice Blast and Bitter Freeze Ray and when I wasn't forged, I pretty much had to hit all 3 of them twice for the kill. With Forge, one chain was enough.
Difference in that fight was definitely the mez protection. Movement overall was good and I think without a hold, none of us would have really died because of the heals so Venador not being able to ID Kosmos was pretty much the decider. Would have also been interesting if one of the two kins had a hold as it would have boiled down to which team could hold and kill the non mez protected Corruptor the most.
Not having some form of heal does make me a little less effective as a Corruptor so I'll definitely be dropping stealth for Frostwork when we get our free I7 respec.
In one of the team PvP battles(was on the Skyway or Steel map), the team I was on got pwned due to a complete lack of team work. The blaster ran off as soon as the battle started, before he'd even been buffed some followed and some hung back meaning the team was badly spread out. As we were dying, people were going back to the fight one at a time and being killed, rather than taking a timeout to regroup. There was also a lot of enemy target debuffing going on but the damage dealers were ignoring the targets being called out.
Nitro and me regrouped away from the fight at one point and called everyone to us but were largely ignored which was a real shame. Two of the other team, Spine Shooter and Icy Thunder stumbled across us and must have been rubbing their hands in glee at the squishy MM and Corruptor. 30 seconds later they were both dead thanks to the the deathtraps Nitro had set up
There are definite teamwork issues with some of the new players which need to be ironed out, most of it is down to impatience. Teams NEED to have a target caller and that person has to have a bind set up. Another bind that may be bery useful is to warn of stalkers. I got AS'd a couple of times by ones I couldn't see but other team members could so a single 'stalker incoming' may be useful.
yea, tho i think as we open up a free event like this, its impossible to avoid the impatient and thoose uninterested in team-work.. team work is a huge issue as i see it too.. when i play targetter i usually see 1 or 2 going for my target, making DPS too low and allowing targets to escape.
in team with multiple ppl using debuffs/holds its prolly the best to leave targetting to the MM.. as i see it MMs has good view of the battle, and has the time to be selective with targets and oppurtunity even to detect stalkers...
i spoke to Max about this and i was thinking we should make 1 or 2 elite-teams that are set and train against eachother on regular basis.. this will be the best way to actually train the team-skill.. EVIL has a SG-pentad team that showed up last time, and it had alot of the team-skill, since i suspect max is whipping them pretty good on just that aspect... for thoose that would join this, RL-personality weighs heavier than AT or PvP-skill imo.. unles some1 has the ability to submiss to ranks and leadership for the benefit of team-effort, there is noway a team can excel and be really good.. skill can be tought and trained, but team-work attributes are linked to personality... perhaps we can set up 1 team for next week and se how it works... since Doms are rare, i wont mind using mine, since i think he has both fields covered (blaster/controller) but do need a respec to adapt travelpowers in PvP, but ill try to fix that before next week. i wouldnt mind seeing a good brute with taunt for once.. (my brute wont be ready for PvP untill lvl 50)
A Dom is definitely next on my list for a PvP alt, just to combat the complete lack of them.
I have a lvl 18 plant/thorn so as soon as Exo get's his last two levels, I'll start PL'ing the Dom before I7 and fit some extra levels in when possible after I7.
As for picking some of the best players to put together viable PvP teams, I think that is the next step. The 'Wednesday Night PvP Fun' on test, mentioned HERE is definitely going to get me along from next week.
I think we've had enough weeks of theory and practice now to give us ideas of what works and what doesn't so testing them out against these guys will be the next step.
sounds like fun, tho i think having a set team for the test-servver event could be good.. since there will be good teams on spot, and u can actually get 1st rate traning... i would like to see some ppl actually posting an interest for a team like this =P
Well, I think you, me, Max and kosmos gives us 4 players who will probably be up for it.
In terms of AT's, Max should definitely take his stalker I think and, as it's on test, I can respec my lvl fire/therm purely for PvP over there or take Exo.
Pretty sure we can get one or two of the other regulars along as well.
*kosmos quickly raises his hand*
The only issue is Kosmos is a corr and so is Exo. I have an alt that's lvling quite quickly now, but he is...also a corr
I have to add tho, that he's Ice/Thermal, which is IMO a far better PvP combo then Kosmos ever will be.
If there's room for a corr I'd be very happy to sign either of these up. I do have a EM/DA brute planned at some point, but that's distant :P
I'll be there i can bring one of my villains to equal up teams if you like Brute, MM or Corrupter.
well, for the time being, kosmos actually have a DM/Fire Brute (may not be the best choice for PvP, but fire armor is good enough imo.. just DM thats a bit weak...) but as he makes a new brute, he can learn the basics in team-play as a brute with that toon.. that is if Kos wants to play brute that is
As luck would have it, teaming was so poor last night on my corr I needed to vent and rolled a brute lol. I retract my earlier statement that I dont like soloing...SOMETIMES soloing is nice :P
I'm not sure how fast this toon will lvl yet, regarding upcoming exams and my corr which I also want to lvl (and I7 giving Kos another 10 lvls I want :P), but basically, yeah I'd be interested to play brute. I'm not very interested to lvl my Dark/Fire tho (lvl 32 now)...I don't like him lol.
OK, no point even kidding ourselves this will happen tonight. Postponed until further notice
