what power pools you got on your controller? your secondary can (unfortuantly) really sell you to a team. Empath to help a healer thats bogged down, Kinetics for those tasty buffs, Rad for debuffs flying left right and centre etc...

i say unfortuatly because there are some cases that people will expect you to do nothing but use your secondary, in which case you end up playing defender wannabe, which has really gets me annoyed sometimes... but that is a totally diffrent issue.

other than that try and make people see that you are good at what you do and no doubt you will recieve a team invite from them in the future.

and if that doesnt work tell them you will restore the worlds ailling kitten population if they team with you (see i7 threadS )

ooooooooooooooh i7!! when is it gonna be released? are we gonna have epic ATs in them? I like even more costume options, how bout weapon sheathes? Will coh get new powers? do we get gun-kata? Bet we're gonna get power customisation, thats so cool.. on a side note, you know what would be totally cool? winged ATs so we can have more fly options!

....poor kittens...

To the OP on the other hand, try to team alot and as said, try to sell yourself to the team. Sadly these days controllers are the least appreciated and/or understood of the ATs. Try to show the difference between a team with and one without a controller and you'll get invites more and more often. You could also try to join an active SG to team with you. But indeed, most controllers cant solo at those lvls.

1 exception - illusion trollers (Phantom Army makes such a massive difference at 18).

I've actually found my trollers to level faster than my other toons, but teaming is the key, as others have said

To be honest I've found my controller hard to level at times but mostly because I don't have the kind of damage output required to solo missions. Best thing to do is find a regular group of 1-3 other people who you like and feel comfortable playing with and work together on getting those levels.

Also, be prepared to faceplant a lot whenever you mess up, controllers are hard because if you mis-remember your hold durations, or they're not ready before the last one has expired enemies have a nasty tendancy of targeting you first....

oh i forgot to tell. i am mind-storm summon controller

A challenging choice. beware aoe sleeps.

I really should do something about this signature.

Mind is probably the trickiest primary to play at low levels because many people don't understand sleep/confuse powers very well. Once you get to 22 and start slotting SO enhances, you should be able to do some very decent damage and have good control. Not getting a pet at 32 (like other sets do) is not a big deal since your powers should allow you to solo safely if you want to. So just be patient, and try to team and in the late game (41+), others will look at you with envy . Oh, and if you ever want to PvP, you have one of the strongest combos around .

The first thing is to use the search to find a decent guide. The Search is a bit useless but heres Khaine Stars much handier Guide to Guides on the forum.

Can't really help with Mind I'm afraid but for all Controllers the Single Target hold is your main attack. When teaming don't focus on one Mob, once you've someone locked down select another active enemy and hold them. Your job is primarily to slow / stop / scare / confuse things from attacking your teammates. The trick when Teaming is to see how many in the current group you can do this to, not to damage them.

With Storm the trick is not to send things flying around. That'll make you very unpopular with Tanks. Tanks like having enemies bunched close to them. Use Snow Storm to slow up enemies, an AOE hold to lock them in place and then Freezing Rain to debuff them. Freezing Rain tends to scatter them so slow & lock people under it.

And overuse (or any use nearly) of Gale is a bad thing. Its a terrible power and its the one that annoys meleers more than any (other than Rain of Fire or Freezing Rain when not used properly).

Hmmm... I'm not sure I totally agree here: with Mind, you have the early combo of Dominate/Levitate (as well as Mesmerize) which can do serious single-target damage with containment. But yes, don't try to play your troller like a blaster if that's what you mean .

As I said I know little about Mind but thats exactly what I mean when one is on a team. On a team you are generally better served locking down as many as you can and debuffing them rather than focus firing on the boss who the Tank has occupied anyway.

I'm not saying "Never attack" though. Where's the fun in not being able to slam em off the ground after all your hard work

It was pretty slow to level Gabriel, but that was before I really hit the ground running at around 20 when I joined my SG. Before that I was 50/50 between soloing and pick up teams and that did hit my advancement speed. My advice is to take a look both in-game and here on the boards for an SG for you to join, you'll soon see which ones are the most active. Get into a good SG and you're never far away from a good team.

As for Controller effectiveness as a solo player at low level, I actually found it pretty easy (if a tad slow). I think the Mind set helped me out a lot, which is probably why I was able to solo Frostfire.

Nothing like watching the scrapper panic about where his target's gone when you've Levitated or TK'd them off their screen during a particularly flashy AoE attack from the blaster

aye, with your singletarget hold, try to figure out how many mobs you can lock down and cycle around so they all are perma (or near perma) held. Most of times you can at least hold 3 without recharge enhances/hasten. Just whenever you go AoE heavy on a mob, make sure you either can hold em or have some friendly teammates available to take the aggro. Especially /storm trollers can have a close encounter with that fresh polished floor real soon.
