Controller discussion.
Heh, grav coming in for a pasting as ever. Not surprising seeing as it's the thinking controllers set That is of course it's major drawback, on 'see and charge teams' it doesn't perform as well as fire and forget control like Illusion.
Grav has ace holds and tactically I reckon it offers more than any other set. Thing is, all the controller sets are good really, and nicely balanced and different.
And as ever I have to make the point that grav is a fun set that makes people laugh on teams which is a great property of itself!
Im just gonna get repel (before i do a respec).. time to try out npc bowling with me as the ball!! hehe
Gravity is by far the most superior set.

depends on your mindset i feel some people make sets look superior compared to those that make sets look bad. For me with so much aoe and practically complete control without gaining aggro on some of them mind control is the one (ive had 4 groups under my spell before whilst the team mopped the room easily - that was a shining moment for me)

-DEF, -ACC, -Dmg, -Res, -Spd, -Recharge, -Fly, -Jump, and -DEF in almost every attack in the earth set. Add that to the disorients every 90 seconds base time, knockback effects (-tohit buffs) every 90 seconds base time, tic-holds and a hold, immobilizes every 4 and 8 seconds (-DEF anyone?). A team can see when a troller dies - that is when it all turns red. So what if you can't kill a fly - you can certianly debuff the fly to death

all those debuffs make me wonder if its more of a defender set than a controller, i havent had much experience of seeing earth controllers (and i have one incidentally lvl 5) but i have seen some earth controllers chuck stone cages on a group only to have the group pull out their guns and shoot them dead (not you ofc) however the animated stone is very cute and impressive.

But surely the same would apply to all Controller sets which have a Group Immobilise?

I think he was talking about the debuffs from Rad with

and just this from Earth?

and -DEF in almost every attack in the earth set
[/ QUOTE ]
At least I hope so. Otherwise why aren't I playing an Earthie?
different powers from earth have -DEF, -FLY, -JUMP and -SPEED
-def,-fly,-jump,-spd and -acc can be found in earth leaving just the -dam i believe which still is the sort of thing you find in trick archery etc

Quite the opposite. Radiation IS a defender's primary set, Radiation Infection (-DEF, -ACC), Enervating Field (-DMG, -RES), Lingering Radiation (-Speed, -Recharge, -Regen). those 7 debuffs can be found in two toggles and one AoE attack that comes back every 45 secs IIRC. That, and the PBAoE Heal and AM are my "defenderish" powers which I use strictly for offense. I'm not a healer and not even planning on picking the Ressurection power.
Those powers help me a lot with controling a set. Earth Control has a pretty massive effects, all of which STACKS with the debuffs mentioned above. Earthquake is a knockback and a tohit debuff. Quicksand is a massive Slow (-spd -fly -jump) AND a -def. The AoE Immobilize is a -fly AND a -def. The AoE disorient is also a -def. In the matter of fact, only three of my Earth Control powers are not -def, and that is the earthquake, the AoE hold and the pet.
That being said, I must make my next and final point: Those debuffs, either from the Radiation set or the Earth Control set, allow me to lock down enemies, PvE or otherwise, by many ways: knocking them back constantly for 30 seconds while disabling their movment, seriously debuffing their DEF and ACC, allowing them to make less damage and take more of it. All of that makes earth/rad a real control set that makes my team a real killing machine.
IMO, if you've met an Earth Controller who ONLY uses his AoE immobilize, and doesn't focus on heal (empath or something like empath), he isn't controling, he is showing off his good looking AoE immobilize power and that's all.
Many controllers do a lot, either with the primary or secondary set. But if they aren't doing anything with either, they don't know how to control.
my two cents.
Edit: reading the following comments, I must also say that Earth control debuffs and control tools, and Radiation's debuffs, match so perfectly together. That makes the set really good for control. Both sets have all the debuffs i've mentioned (but the -fly from earth and -regen,-dmg from radiation), and combining them together makes it a control freak.
Edit 2: Earth also doesn't have the -recharge, it is radiation's Lingering effect.
@Double
Double Flame 50 fire/devices
Double Shade 50 tri-form warshade
Double Light 50 dwarf-human peacebringer
Double Control 50 earth/rad
For me sleep, fear, confuse, hold, knockbacks, slow, repel, immobilise are control like powers
-def, -res, -acc (well could give a controller that) -recovery, -end, -recharge are more defender like powers
but there are shades of grey where they cross, i guess -spd, -recharge, -def, immobilise and hold could all tie in.
but yeah i didnt realise earth and rad was so well suited!!
Mines earth/storm cos i could synergise them better for the "how did those powers come together in one hero?" but i could of said the mums an earth controller and the dads a rad.

Just on this. Earth? Good looking holds? I agree its a great set but I really wouldn't call the "I capture you in a mountain of poo" holds and immobilises good looking

Yeah, and I cheat. I actually have dedicated buffers for my fire/storm. Me and an empath can pretty much clear anything. If I dont hold it, I just tank it.
I play my troller as an AoE blaster with great single target damage if you throw in lightning storm and tornado.
The best illustration of this is actually an AV fight. My team when in. They were 4 Iirc. 1 earth/kin, 1 stone tank, 1 emp and 1 more. They couldnt dent the AV at all.
I was afk due to RL issues, and when I came back after they had fought it for 10 mins. We arrested the AV in 20-30 secs.
