Answering the questions no one asked, it's the "How does * work?" series!

Issues 1:
How does Jessica's Memory Work?

When you're a curious young nanomite enhanced girl, you take a lot of information in. Jess is no exception. With a sensorary memory capacity storage time of 200 seconds, a short term memory capable of holding 10,800 pieces of information for 6,000 seconds and a powerful long term memory, her mind must get pretty full and jumbled.

Here enters the JDFS - Jessica's Data File System. The two basic parts of the system are the Date and the Cue Bank. Jessica stores all the information she recieves into the date system. Each day has an entry, with subdivisions for hours, minutes and seconds. The further back the archive go, the more compressed it is and this causes Jess to need to wait a moment before recalling the memory. The Cue System is what links it all together. With every entry into the date system a cue tag is attached. Colours, feelings, events, tastes, touches, you name it, it's got a cue tag. This is all compiled into the Cue System. Ask Jessica to think of something that reminds her of spring and she will recall all memories with the 'Spring' tag attached. The tags also link to other tags, so with 'Spring' would be associated 'March', 'April', 'May', 'Chicks', 'Eggs' and other things tied to the season.

Whilst Jessica is human, she is also part machine, so mistakes can be made on cue tagging, leading to often confusing statements when she recalls something that she has mistakenly associated, or storing things literally. Such is the case that when the big, blue-eyed Thing is mentioned, she will think of Devouring Earth after her mother told her that her Thing toy looked like a bedrock.

That was issue one of the series of questions no one's asked and no one cares about. Issue 2 will be explaining the various terms for mutant powers in use by me.

How does Red Commissar survive point blank ranged attacks and lethal melee assaults?:

Being a normal human Slav, people have wondered why RC is never a stain on the pavement after so much punishment has been dished out on his outnumbered self.

Simple, RC wears UN grade 1 Defence body armour. Picture a series of Kevlar like flak vests and other kevlar pieces lining the most squishy important areas of his body. A bit of this can be easily seen masking RC's face. The body armour can take major ranged and kinetic damage for quite a bit before finally sustaining some damage.

The armour of course is under RC's costume aside from the head and a little bit poking out of his tunic.

What other Tech does Red Commissar use?:

People have also wondered how RC flies. Simple, The Commissar uses Hero Corp designed anti gravity boots that gently push him into the air. It did take a little bit of practice to master using the prototype hover mode with the boots. The boots are activate when RC presses a stud hidden inside his left glove and can be deactivated while pressed twice.

Issue 2a:

The 'who, what, why and hwuh?' of mutants - How do mutant powers work?

Comic Book Science Liberally Applied!

Cryokinesis: The ability to lower the temperature of the area around them. Chemical secretions from the skin create a reaction with water in the air, to create a drop in temperature around them. Depending on the mutation, the chemical excretion either affects the body, or can be propelled from the sweat glands to affect things at a distance. With practice, the ice can be sculpted by chemical emissions into various shapes. Cryokinetics often have aversions to hot temperatures outside, and can suffer from the eating disorder Pagophagia, a compulsive consumption of ice.

Pyrokinesis: The oposite of Cryokinesis, Pyrokinetics secrete a chemical that reacts with oxygen in the air and combusts, creating a fire. As with Cryokinetics, mutation level affects the ability to propel the chemical outwards. Pyrokinetics often have pyrophilia, an attraction to fire, pyromania and an urge for consumption of spicy foods.

Electrokinesis: The ability to generate surges of electricity. Electrokinetics are often born with bioelectric plates in their body, much like an electric eel has. These are connected to the body via the nervous system, where charges are channeled through, most often to the hands. Ability to arc the surges of electricity over a distance Electricity can also be absorbed into the body, channeled to the plates, though exceeding the charge capacity leads to nervous system damage and disruption. Electrokinetics can have problems with static build up, epilepsy, motor-neurone disruption. Some electrokinetics posses electroscopy, the ability to see electrical currents, which can cause problems in cities where the quantity and amount can be blinding.

Hydrokinesis: Similar to Cryo and Pyrokinesis, Hydrokinetics secret a chemical that reacts with water to create a viscous, non-Newtonian fluid that can then be manipulated via further chemical secretions, and reverted back to its normal form. Hydrokinetics sometimes suffer from a phobia of hot places, and will normally be fascinated with water.

Aerokinesis: Aerokinetics have an extraordinary lung capacity and output, enabling them to create winds by breathing in and out. With practice, various ways of breathing and actions while breathing, for instance whistling, can create different affects with the wind. Due to their enhanced respitory system, Aerokinetics are often good singers, but are unable to sing safely due to the winds that are created when doing so.

Telepathy: Telepaths are able to read minds and communicate without speaking to another. How they do this is actually a lot less complicated than it sounds. A mutation in the pineal gland, visual cortex and auditory system allow the telepath to 'see' and 'hear' neurones firing in the brain of a person, and are able to translate these signals into sights and sounds. With further practice, they can move deeper and obtain information from someones memories, as well as emitting electroneural pulses from their frontal lobes to trigger neural impulses. This allows them to communicate over distances, and alter memories and thoughts with much practice. With practice and exercises, as well as natural talent, this can be done to more than one person and over large distances. Thoughts can be shielded via scrambling the messages in their own brain, with practice, creating a system similar to data encoding over internet transactions. Telepaths can become deeply interested in psychology, wishing to understand more about minds to enhance their gifts, though are prone to mental disorders if there powers aren't kept in check. Uncontrolled mindreading is the prime cause of mental instability in telepathic mutants.

Cyberpathy: Similar to Telepaths, Cyberpathics are able to see, hear, and manipulate electronic communications. This allow them to interface directly with electronic devices and upload information to their brain for processing. Cyberpathics are often electroscopic, and can either need to be in physical contact with the device or can manipulate at range. Cyberpathics often have a facisnation with technologies and computers, which can turn into an addictive behavious.

now i am sure this should be called "questions you always wanted to ask Z, but were afraid what the answer would be"

and yes, i scared...

Z, you're also applying words a little 'loosely' as well.

Pyrophilia is achieving arousal due to flame...not sure if that's exactly what you want to say Pyromania is wanting to set things on fire...

Believe me, SW, her pyrophiliac does both.
And a real world pyrophiliac probably wouldn't live very long.

And if you really want to nark one off, wave one of Doc's devices at them.

Sorry Hannah!

Indeed. Non-electrical mechanical devices and steam powered machines confuse and infuriate them for the simple fact they can't intergrate with them. Hannah hates Doc's Rod Logic computer with a passion.

Ugh....well, takes all sorts and I apologise for thinking the...worst?....

Pondering the kinetics though...surely what you describe is Pyropheromonics? or Pyropharmaceutics?

Choose small though kids. The Amazing One-Armed-Man would have been a lot healthier if he hadn't been bitten by a Radioactive Crocodile.

think that was come up with by the same people that gave us "duck and cover" in the event of a nuclear stike?

Hmm.. She'd like Miss Ellie's laptop then... It's been enhanced with Kheldian tech...

Actually.. Miss Ellie has l33t h4cking & cr4cking skillz! She can chop her way into most computer systems in seconds with that laptop!

She has NO idea how the hell she does it though... And she's rubbish at computer games!

EDIT: Cause the 4 letter word for rubbish isn't allowed!

EDIT2: Cause I can't type for toffee!

I'd imagine kheldian computers employ quantum computer components, particularly for space navigation and the like. However, little known fact which a lot of people tend to forget (or don't know), a quantum computer is worth about zip without a standard silicon-based front end. It's kind of like trying to run a spreadsheet on a Crey (real-world one, nothing to do with the Countess). I remember a magazine where someone had rigged an interface up so they could do the computation for their ray-tracing software (running on an Amiga 2000) on a Crey super-computer. Effectively, the Crey was being used as a maths co-processor for the Amiga.

I rather suspect that Doc's rod-logic computers would need some form of ordinary computer interface system since rod-logic is a mechanical system and kind of difficult to interface to a holographic UI.

In short, most of this stuff as a vast pile of fudge, liberally linked together with flange, and really shouldn't be examined very closely.

Example:

Pyrokinesis is a 'recognised' psychic power. It's based around either a limited or very precise form of telekinesis. A pyrokinetic is able to increase the energy of the molecules in an object, making them 'vibrate faster'. Generally, if you do this enough, the object will burst into flame.

Cryokinetics do the opposite.

These are considerably less 'specific to the hero' versions of the powers that Z has described, but her explanations are perfectly valid for the situation.

I knew that... Which is why Ellie's laptop is a normal laptop that just been 'enhanced' so it can do stuff normal laptops can't.

The two systems are interfaced using the latest in masculine bovine excretia technologies!

Nja; it would be pretty difficult to interface an ordinary piece of bit-fiddling silicon to a holographic UI too. There's no reason why you couldn't do UI with quantum computing, steam-punk computers or others. Modern, "normal" computers aren't particularly good at UI with humans -- in fact, they pretty much give up and has to run their "thoughts" through a digitial-to-analog converter to present it, and an analog-to-digital converter to read it.

The reason why modern computers seem to be so good at UI is because we've spent a lot of time and effort in making them seem so -- remember that there's no fundamental difference in terms of computation model of the actual computer between an "old iron" holde-card / teletyper setup and a modern laptop.

And if this is a free-for-all?

Q: How does a Robotics Mastermind "summon" robots.
A: The communication panel implanted into the arm of the Mastermind links to a construction/teleport system at an evil lair of the villains choice. The creation is either teleported inside a crate (Drone), with a deployment cradle (Protectors) or into nearby airspace for landing (Assault).

The same methodology is used for administering upgrades - the equipping harness is teleported in under the feet of the robot in question.
