Best Tank you've had?

Alright, what type of tanker has worked for you best?

Heh, which one could take the most damage for you?

Best tank you've worked with?

Ice tank honest

(naa just kidding, don't count my vote)

p.s. the main point of a tank isn't to take damage...the damn /reg scrappers do that better than most tanks. The job of a tank is to keep aggro.

Ice/Ice my best tank...

Sucks aggro like nothing else, and ice patch compensated for ice tanks inherent weakness.

Now come issue 7 and scaling defence, I can this being even more handy

IMO tanks should be judged not entirely on their ability to be indestructable, but on keeping aggro away from skwishies. Would you team with a perma-granite tank without taunt?

The best tank I've teamed with(not counting myself, otherwise it wud be me)has been Stagefright's Ice Duke, he'll need a whole week end to kill 3 yellow minions, but he sure can keep aggro

Inv/SS, easily. But then I would say that............

Very true. Being indestructible is pretty pointless unless you can use it to prevent the rest of the team taking damage.

[/ QUOTE ]I would team with him/her/it but then get horriblyfrustrated when I realise he/she/it is failing to fulfil their job.

In fact the lack of decent tanks led me to be give up on 2 defenders, both of which are perfectly capable of keeping a tank alive in dangerous circumstances, but almost none of the tanks in question were able to keep them alive in normal circumstances.

Generally I've found Granite make poor tanks on the whole, they don't seem to be able ( or be inclined ) to hold aggro.

The few Ice tanks I've seen tend to be better.

So I guess that's me back to tanking.....

Fire/Fire back in I2/I3. A soloing beast, I spent most of my time between 23-30 in Terra Volta herding a massive amount of Sky Raiders. Fastest leveling I've ever done.

Don't know, my Fire Tanker was mainly dishing it out. My Inv/SS was currently in planning back then, would probably have tanked exceptionally well. Capped S/L, close to capped Nrg/Ele, *cough* perma-unstoppable *cough*.

In regards of having played both an Offensive and somewhat less Offensive Tanker I've met few that plays better than me. I loved one of the Tankers in my SG, mostly for the company but I was usually SK:ed in, and since he was a pre-granite Stone Tanker I usually became main tank.

I've probably met too many bad tankers (like a Stone Tanker refusing to run anything but passives because he didn't like the look of Stone Armors).

1st and 3rd question strike me as the same. I'd tank with any tank.

The one that could take the most damage over time depends on damage type and lack of damage mitigation. Over than that tanks shine at different levels to eachother against different enemies.

If a tank isnt hitting the aggro cap in teams it maybe down to not given adequate chance to consolidate aggro or no real inclination in doing so. I find the stone tank the one with the hardest job of keeping aggro on noob teams, recoveries should never have to be made really and with rooted on and no speed boost its most definately trickier.

If someone asked me who is the best tank I have ever seen I would say no one. I have seen every tanker balls something up and I have never teamed consistently enough with all of them to judge them. Also that teaming would have to be on 8 man teams with no other tanker. I dont rate tanks who tank with other tankers in general and i wont judge a tank on a bad team.
There is no "We did it! and its all down to me because I built and I am a great tank" erm no as there is only "good teams". Defenders, controllers, scrappers and blasters can cover up the simplest mistakes and make up for inadequencies.
Every tanker has noob moments at some points in the game and countless moments where they can't actually tank on their terms. Then there are moments when you have consolidated aggro, directed all fire away from the team and what does the blaster do? he comes around your side and stands next to you or you have scrappers that stray within perception range of the next group when there is a whole football field of space the otherside of the group your fighting. People ask me why dont i use teamspeak well I'd simply have no friends left.

You know how to collect badges?

My Invulnerability tanker used to be able to take ridiculous amounts of damage back in the day; now he's able to take a sufficient amount. He's reasonably capable of holding aggro too - I have my mace aoe slotted with taunt and recharge so I can generally keep the bad guys focused on me. I don't play him much anymore but when I do I don't get complaints about losing aggro.
I'm currently working on a low level stone/stone tanker and I love him. I'm level 12 with mudpots and taunt for aggro-holding. It works quite well but I do need support to survive (thankfully I only play him with my supergroup and we're a very supportive bunch )

Forgot to add - which tanker messed up the most? (no names please).

You know - nearly die in one mob but then run into the next mob thinking that it would distract the other.

Not wanting to make ppl angry with this but it is of my own experience that i claim Stone tanks to the ruler of all tanks, as my stone tank i have teamed with many ppl, many different sorts of tanks, and i have seen them all fall in battle, especially in the 40+ av mishes (allthough they should be surviving that better than the low lvls. :/ ) and i have still been standing. i am not claiming that i cant die, believe me i can die, but i am still not as mortal as others i have seen..

and yes, i have taunt, i have mudpots, i know how to use puchwoke in a good way, if some1 in my team gets killed, i am rarely the one to blaim for it.

Pre-I5, the best tank i came across was myself with Sulphur SL50 Fire/Fire Tanker

Now... I'd have to go with Stone.

if i had been ingame at those stages, pre-ED i would probably have gone fire too, or maybe invu, but those just doesnt seem to cut it for me (maybe i'll give them a try after the i7 launch) but for now, Stoneys FTW!!

Never liked stoneys when im playing skwishies. Just dont trust them to grab the aggro.

Statements like "Im always the last one standing" do not inspire confidence like "Im always the first one to fall!"

I agree with that, I don't rate stoners. They are the toughest but not the best aggro magnets.

come see me in action and i'll show you an aggro magnet, it all depends on the one playing the stonetank, not the tank itself

Tanking is about playstyle. You may be a good tank, but most stoners aren't.

Note as pointed out to me below, I shouldn't really be picking on stoners... most tanks of all types aren't good tanks, at the moment. However they [censored] me off most because they are the nearest this game has to invulnerable. Personally I blame the fact that no one is tough until SOs rather than DOs as it used to be and the secondary can now be better for survival than the primary in many cases.

Grabbing aggro is a skill no doubt about it. But a skilled stoney will never beat a skilled ice for instance. Playing my ice/ice i never ran below 90% of all hits being directed at me, and was usually running at 95-100% (yes... no one getting hit at all, ever, but me). Now, i may well be dropping fast, but I certainly inspired confidence and security from all team mates.

And if i drop, and I ALWAYS dropped before anyone else, the team took this as the RUN signal

I dont see many tanks at low levels hitting the 50% mark, and even top end 80% is pretty good.

Posted

I could pretty consistently manage 100% aggro with my inv/mace using taunt, provoke, whirling mace and invincibility.

Some people found it boring to be honest but I always had a laugh

Posted

And thats the trick: Taunt AND Provoke . thats the only way I can see a stoney getting reasonable aggro levels.

It's not exactly a well kept secret, though. A fair number of Stone Tanks have been doing that since at least I3 - I know I was.
