Taunt

Ok so i know its a given that as a tank you should have taunt, however would you say the same is true of brutes?

Im only asking as the brute cant take as much damage as the tank and would that mean by taunting he would double his chance of a faceplant within a large team?

Any thoughts?

I chose not to take taunt with my Stone/Inv Brute this was due to having 2 aoe primarys which had built in taunt and also INV shields seem to have auto taunt in them as well.

I find i hold sutainable agro quite well without it, would probaly depend on your powersets though.

I didn't take taunt on Red Rag, but I am taking the presence pool.

'He was at least 8ft tall with horns sticking out his head! And he was on fire! Too right, I was scared!'

VIGILANCE Captain Caledonia 20 - Yeah, I made toons on the French server coz we only had 4 back then (might have to transfer/recreate them on one of the US servers)
..and many more!

I didn't take taunt on my Brute. My Brute plays like a scrapper, hit hard and fast and go for the next group. Let the masterminds soak the aggro up. I didn't even take the Aura yet.

@Unthing ... Mostly on Union.

i have a dark/stone brute and i have taunt and i can't life with out it.

Taunt is 1 of the best powers to get your furry up and fast and keep those enemey's away from your team mates.

Is the Brute taunt single target or like the tanker taunt?

I'm thinking of skipping Taunt as well on my EM/Fire, because I do have the damage aura and am a bit short of power choices. Besides, it's primarily a solo build because this is easily the most fun I've ever had soloing with any toon, including my regen scrapper. Still feeling a pang, though, because I'd like it to be a good all around build but there are just so many powers to get.

it seems a bit 'tank-o-bility' related. Stone armor overal can take a huge ammount of damage, so will take taunt easier to get his fury up (Specialy with the -recharge -speed in GA) and popout high damage. I think second to stone invul could have it also.
The less 'tankers' are more enhanced scrappers who just cant take that much ammount of damage. They can run around easier to get their aggro from aoe's and single target slapping.

I'm making a copy of my SS/Stone in CoV atm, eventualy he will get taunt too

I fully intend to get taunt when I respec at 39(ish) with Granite to settle on a 'Tanky' build. I just wanted a Brute who can hold agro and tank for a team.

[Disclaimer: Yes I know Brutes aren't tanks, but I want to play Villans and I wanted to play a tanky type Brute, just before all the folks post: 'Brutes are not Tanks!' ]

I went Fire/Stone, for 2 AoE's a damage aura in mudpots and survivability in Granite.

The only issues I am having is that it's hard getting to 38 as the Fire primary has no form of damage mitigation at all lol! Therefore no taunt yet, and light on the AoE's as /Stone is a bit squishy before granite.

However once past Granite, it fits my needs better than the others so I'm just trying to get up there...

Well I think it's better that brutes take taunt, because they are supposed to use it on weaklings to build up thier fury, then they are stronger so they can go after the bigger guys.

I haven't taken taunt, and i'm not going to, i'm a dark/dark brute, and in a team if i get all the agro even my hundred of self heals can only just keep me alive, if i used taunt all the time it would be perma-debt, maybe its a different story for other types of brutes, but i sure couldn't take that agro

I suppose you're right there, I'm going for a stone brute, a bit of a tank at the end of the day huh?

If you party with a /sonic and /fire (thermal?) corrupter and they both buff you their resists, you basicly have the resistance of a stone brute
