Which surely means its ready to be hit with another nerf. Have a look into Inv/SS - seen afew tanks with that and seemed very strong.

Personally I find Stone Melee a ton of fun. I'm guessing it's mostly Mace you find naff?
Stone armour has the best all-round protection from damage after level 32 but it slows you down a lot.
From the rest, Invunerability will give you the most protection with mobility, Fire average protection but will deal the most damage, Ice is interesting but remember to quicksave before every fight.

Fire gives more resistance to energy and toxic and far more resistance to fire, slighest less resistance to ice than invul. Can eaily reach resist cap to smashing/lethal, same as invul altho for this u need tough if u chose fire. I find my tanks to be very end draining so consume in fire is good as well as fiery embrace if ur looking for dmg.
In terms of secondary energy is by far the most damaging attacking single targets, fire has the most damaging aoes and ss is a good mix of both
max powerz you not your like axe?
stone fire is pretty good... highest defence and one of more dominant attacks.
Fire Fire is kinda an uber scrapper (I have one at level 7 and so far he's been fun)
Stone is great but if you enjoy a fast game YAWN
Inv is cool, know several Inv tanks in the 40s with my blaster and they make all this "Tanks are poo" look like the rubbish it is. Sure you can't herd an AV map anymore but who gives a damn, tank 1 or 2 mobs at a time and it all works fine.
Ice... I know nothing, ask Spad

Its fine, abit on the slow side (you benefit from knockback) but from playing with a super strength tanker it appeared they were more powerful than me.
If im honest you dont see too many inv/axe tanks around - many turn to super strength (whethers thats to do with them liking the sound of it or because they know better) so they cant be that bad.
If you ever want a demonstration so can see what the powers look like etc give me a pm or something.

fire /fire is the squishiest of the sets early on and they have ben uber nerfed when burn turned into a candle in a puddle
stone is one of the few with psi damage protection wich is handy against some of the AVs later on , (speaks the voice of xp )
of course get the fighting pool as tough is a must i think and stamina is always helpfull for those toggle heavy builds, finnaly sj as a travel power? i always go for it unless u got knock down and mez protection fromn another power

The Psi defence in Stone is low enough now that you need additional inspirations or buffs to tank a Psi AV. It's still quite handy against lower ranking Psi enemies, but since there are usually other (more damaging) attacks flying around at the same time it doesn't see much use any more.

That the other tanker sets have been nerfed so heavily, and Ice buffed ever so slightly, that Ice is actually the best performing Pre-32 tanker set on average.

ok thanks for all the info i have now narrowed the choice to either
inv/axe (axes are just so cool)
inv/ss (not as cool i have ss brute but aparently a good combo)
inv/ice (maybe never got a ice charicter and looks pretty)
stone isnt fun too slow not being chosen
fire is aprently [censored] so no
ice/* all ive heard is naf
anyone got any ideas on whats best and what i should consider
Ice primary! It's actually relativly good, and looks super cool.
As for secondary, get stone, SS, fire or if you want to do odd things, Ice. The melee weapon ones all seem a tad naff.

How about the Volcano type - Stone/Fire. A great set for outright toughness with a really nice mix of powers, Armours, EE and a bit of Regen for fun which gives some nice powers choices and keep it interesting then....
....because your not six slotting all your armours you could get some great AoE's going from the Fire Secondary, which I handy for rapid mob killing and managing aggro.
ok primary is now either ice or inv
and secondary is either ice/ ss
all up to you!
Ice/SS is prolly nice.

Hmmm ...
I was looking into Ice/Ice the other day in Hero Planner and frankly wasn't impressed with the Def %'s that it ended up with, but of course, Hero Planner gives no indication of the true effectiveness of some of the powers within the set, e.g. the clickie that increases your defense based on the amount inside its AoE when fired (have no idea of the names and am without references here).
I was waiting to some new Tanker sets would be made available before started another Tank, but if Ice is respectable again ...
Hmmm ...
Don't think of Ice as respectable, it's just that the other sets have hit on such hard times that they're making Ice look like some kind of high class socialite
Nothing outside of Parry/Divine Avanlanche gives good DEF figures any more, you just have to get used to it. If it helps, my Ice/Fire tank can happily solo on Unyielding with little or no risk, with the exception of a few villain groups (Carnies & CoT mostly).

hehe, yay!
invul/ss tanks have always been generally pretty strong despite the nerfs. its also a good build for roleplaying as there's a lot of heroes you can make with the idea of invulnerability...imo :P
only problem is that only a few of the ss powers actually make you look as if your superstrong. i would take energy melee instead as a) energy melee looks a lot more impressive (glowie fists wooo)! b) in the latter levels of you tanker's existence a number of mobs have resistance to smash/lethal.
@Captain Solaris
Guild of Extreme Heroes "Strength is in Unity"
ice secondary is very boring and does no dmg at all, energy and fire are by far the best as i said earlier, energy for single targets, fire for aoes.

[/ QUOTE ]You can hardly hit 75% resistance to S/L with Fire Shield + Tough, not to mention capping it..
Invulnerability has a built in Knockback Resistance wich fire doesn't have, not a must but it surely helps when fighting CoT and nemeses and you won't need to get Leaping pool to have some protection to Knockback...
As for the melee, i would suggest as X said, Fire if you're goin for area of effect attacks and energy if you're goin for single targets.
SS has a good mix of AoE (the most cool looking in the game bar PB Flares) and single target(again the most cool looking punch in the game)and it looks pretty damn cool!!!

I may be completely wrong here but didnt they destroy s/l resistance in i5 down to around 70%? But J is very correct in that with invul you get knockback resistance and also invinc gives to hit buffs and dull pain is far superior to healing flames. The only reason i picked fire primary on my second tank was for fiery embrace as i want a pvp tank
And most cool looking punch in the game? I see your knockout punch j and raise you total focus
i want to make a new tank but i dont know were what to chose i already have a mace/stone tank and it naf any suggustions and possibly a build?
