My New Tanker
It'll be nice to have another 50 Ice tank out there to team with
Good job on chosing something.
WHilst I find playing a tank thoroughly rubbish these days (and have almost retired, not deleted my lvl 30 ice/ice), one point:
If you are going for "pure" tank i.e. you are there to soak up as much aggro as possible, Ice secondary can simply not be beat. Why? Ice Slide. With 2 SO this can be perma, and multiplies your ability to take aggro significantly. I find it particularly good with CE from ice primary (slowed and falling over = not much time to attack you).
Ice secondary seems otherwise a bit poor in damage (although at least not as much cold resistance in enemies than smash/lethal). I would strongly advise ice if you want "pure" tank, but not if you want a scranker.

Your concept of "pure" tank looks like it has to be nothing more than a target, so what's best for just being a target than granite armor(-dmg, -recharge, -speed but loads of def and res) and rooted??
You can't move, can't make decent dmg(due to ED mainly, for the loss of perma-hasten and 5 slotted attack for dmg)but you can take hell loads of beatings..
Then you can go stone/ice if u want someone else to make the killings and you'll just take the aggro, being a "pure" tanker, as you say..
But then again, dunno how many people will be inviting you to teams, as you'll be a PA who needs healing and buffing?
Having an offensive melee doesn't make you a scranker anyway....
You can keep aggro on you far better with Fire Sword Circle + Combustion that with perma-Ice Patch..
The scranker build is those that leaves minimal slottings to defensive powers(and only those with good returns, i.e. no slotting for Resist Elements or Resist Nrg)to slot attacks...
Having attacks one slotted till you have all primary fully slotted, even with fire/nrg melee or SS doesn't make you a scranker, in no way..

Err... I said Ice SECONDARY for pure tank, not Ice/Ice. No need to mock my Ice/Ice tanker - I dont play it because i dont want to let teams down
Nothing allows you to take more punishment than Granite Armour I grant you. If you want to be maximum aggro absorber, Rock/Ice would be best IMHO. But Ice Slide is unequivically the best defensive power in the secondary set.
And BTW Ice tanks have had buff recently. And as I am now playing a Defender Rad, I would actually PREFER an Ice tank in my team, because they cluster mobs like no-one else. They are highly mobile, best resistance to status effect, and bets AoE taunt. If you have good debuffers in a team, Ice tanks are a godsend.

I said it to clamor when we did sis psyche mate, and she didnt seem to be too happy bout it . It all depends on your slotting and your playstyle. Bout a week ago I teamed with nother ice tank, same lvl as mine. However I always ended up pulling aggro away from him because he just charged headlong into a group of enemies.
Ice tanks require a bit of planning before you move in. But as said, if you have someone with debuffs on your team, or an empath with fort.. ice tanks are near unstoppable (if played right)

Ice primary! It's actually relativly good, and looks super cool.
As for secondary, get stone, SS, fire or if you want to do odd things, Ice. The melee weapon ones all seem a tad naff.

I cant understand people saying this myself. Maybe its because I got my tank to 50 (using all the powers along the way) but the Battleaxe rocks. Great damage and a lot of knock downs. Imo good for both the main game and pvp.
ice/ice isnt that bad a combo, actually i kinda enjoy it (and villains in BB/sirens hate it )
however, consider that with all the nerfs thrown around you have to be careful with ice. Especially when you're ice ice, dont just charge in and see what happens. You're best bet is to bunch em together (chilling embrace is great for that), get in the middle, fire Energy Absorption (def buff for every enemy around you), fire Ice Patch and start smashing. Not sure if EA can still be stacked, i'll have to check it out when i got my comp fixed again.
The combo of Ice Patch + CE make sure you can sustain a nice DPS and with 2 recharge in IP you can keep it perma (even have 2 at once). 1 recharge will give you a downtime of few secs. This is without hasten however, so if you pick hasten numbers may vary.
As said before however, /ice isnt the power for actually laying the hurt on your enemies, its good at controlling your enemies but for damage you should pick /ss or /fire.
Ice/ice really shines in teams as you can most of times take enough of the aggro, keep the enemies occupied (slowed, held, knocked down) with your attacks while your teammates do the major damage. If I can take the time for it I could post the build of Ice Duke on here, but I tuned him a bit for PvP as well.
Also if you got an empath on your team and you need to do some major tanking, get him to cast fort on you, it seems to make quite a big diff if you tank with or without fort. With fort on im just a lean mean killing machine .
If you need any help with your build, feel free to toss me a msg.
