Repetitive
(Just asking, servers are down, and we dont have anything else to do then watching the forums out of boredom )
I'd recomend the Spines set for super fun late game play.
But that's the only Scrapper set I've played high.
And that was in I4, still fun in I5, but then sort of 'lacking' in I6.
World of Jackcraft.
Depends on your mentality and how you play i suppose. I'm all for diving into a large groups head first and trying to stay alive, stupid scrapper approach. I've seen others play a more cautious mop up the edge of a fight tactic which offers very little excitement IMO.
My bs/regen scrapper is approachng 50, and mosstly i enjoy the jump in, slash everything playstyle.
However im a little fed up with it now, but i think its because of lvl 50 looming and the promise of a peacebringer more than actual style of play.
I play a corruptor and MM on cov and they bring a welcome change to playstyle, but also provide renewed enthusiasm to my scrapper when i do get to play him.
I guess 50 levels of any toon will see your desire to play it fade temporarily.
Tho, yesterday i took Integration as my new power. Suddenly made me look alot cooler and it makes playing/soloing ALOT better! Faster regen, no hold, sleep or knockback anymore, so i die alot less atm. This really made my MA/REG scrapper alot more fun . I would advive that for every regen player.
When it comes to CoH, Scrapper suits my style of play - Especially in a team.
There's something about rushing into a melee that makes me smile
God bless Integration!
Im with EK on this, the whole point of a scrapper is to be knee deep in villains, swinging, chopping or throwing spines as wildly as you can. As you HP starts going down you should be eager to dismiss as many as you can before you either hit the deck or wipe them all out. If your a scrapper and your HP drop doesn't cause a bit of concern during battle then you are not doing it right.
"Live on the edge, fight in the middle" thats my motto when I play my scrapper.

I do pretty much the same thing. Find a load of Freaks up at the back end of Crey's Folly, dive in.
Result: after about four groups, I get bored.
Yes, Scrappers tend to be boring, especially if they have an empath as back-up. Hikari-Hime likes to call them "wind-up kill toys". Scrapper fighting: 2,1,2,3,2,1,2,3,2,1,2,3... Reconstruction... 2,1,2,3,2,1,2... you get the picture. About as exciting as watching paint dry.
IMHO, anyone who finds the actual process of Scrapper combat 'fun' has a boredom threshold beyond measure.
PS. The answer to boredom currently, is Warburg. Running the same two or three missions over and over again is still boring, but you get so much xp you don't care.

Do they give an average of 20k per solo mission, at 10-15 minutes per mission? If so, I feel I may have misjudged them.
Edit: 20k might be a bit high, but it's HUGE.

I don't remember the exact numbers now, but there's a huge amount of xp in them and the missions themselves are quick (10-20min sounds about right). You'll take 10min getting to each mission until you learn to use the gravity jumps, though, unless you've got Fly or TP to get around. Very fertile soloing territory indeed (and an endless source of top tier Insps) once you get used to navigating the place, though.
I'd be inclined to leave it until 42-43 though. The wandering mobs are likely to be very dangerous before that.

In issue 3 when i went through there with EK i would get about 1/2 a bar per mission on Invincible. Should work out more now with the stupid xp increases in issue 5. You can churn out loads of missions in there and level at a stupid rate. I always saved it for when i had an AV to clear and there were no 40+ players online.
I think to be honest it depends on what type of character and playstyle you enjoy playing. I am a complete Altaholic, but I find it no coincedence that the 3 characters I have got above level 15 are 1 level 50 scrapper, 1 level 30 blaster and a level 30 tank, I just like being in the thick of the action.
I do enjoy playing other types of character, but after a couple of hours want to be in the middle hitting things or doing massive damage from afar again!
I also found the 30-40's were a bit of a slog with him (although this was pre-I5 and the increased XP above 25), however once you had got some big, big powers and loads more slots, he was doing much more damage and not getting quite such a kicking as before which definitely made it more interesting.
If you are getting fed up with your scrapper I would suggest rerolling a different character or carrying on with your alts for a little while as you said, then going back to him as the mood suits you, you may find you enjoy him more after a break

I just added it up for my last mission... 49324 xp, on Rugged. I think I underestimated.

You must be doing it wrong then, My scrapper has about 9 attacks, some are ranged and some holds, so not exactly 1,2,1,2, he also has dullpain, which can be fired off before and during battle. I hold, hit, fear, taunt, mez and smack em in the chops. Not as basic as you make out. In a team its also partly your job to stop the villains from getting back to the weaker members of the team, so its selective targeting as well.
If you really looked at it you could apply your concept of how scrappers fight to any AT and the way they work.
Dimension, you're playing a dark melee type, aren't you? Probably with Dark Epic?
They aren't scrappers, they're mutated controllers. Though, I have a DM/regen... and to be honest, I don't find him much more exciting.

For someone who doesn't find scrappers that much fun to play, you certainly have a lot of scrapper alts Raven :P

Your wasting slots, then, seeing as a Dark Melee Scrapper can chain three or four attacks continouslly.

But Dime is crazy, last time we spoke about this he was slotting Soul Drain for damage and using it as an attack. I slot with recharges and use only as a buff so wouldn't consider it an attack.
Flitz has five attacks and a power-up: Cobra Strike, Thunder Kick, Flurry (no laughing at the back), Eagle's Claw, Dragon's Tail and Focus Chi.
TK and Flurry cycle fast so get used a lot. CS is used as alpha strike and whenever it recharges, although I'll often hold it to alpha next mob. Dragon's Tail is his only PBAoE and is usually only used on groups. Eagle's Claw I usually hold until after I use Focus Chi, for that extra bang!
Not a lot of variety admittedly but not solely bashing the same keys over and over.

..and many more!
I can chain 4 attacks no prob, my bread and butter is Smite, Shadow Maul, Soul Drain and Midnight Grasp. I do use Soul drain for damage and it works quite effectively, my buffing comes from my Invincibility power. I also dropped body mastery, and, because of the nerf to the inv pool I took Dark Mastery which gives me the extra holds I need to negate the attacks I can no longer sustain since I6. so basically I, Buff, hold and hit as I am. The range of attacks are also useful depending on the villains, for instance, midnight grasp doesn't seem to work well against COT Mages, TOF doesn't work to well against Malta Titans etc.
The list of attack / holds are as follows.
Brawl, Smite, Shadow Maul, Touch of Fear, Soul Drain, Confront, Midnight Grasp, Air Superiority, Petrifying Gaze, Dark Blast and Tenebrous Tentacles.
A few people have questioned air superiority but in PvP last night I knocked at least four flying attackers to the ground, TOF'd them and defeated them.
EK uses Soul Drain as a buff I use Invincibility. Fired off in battle I can use Soul Drain as an opener, or to finish off large groups. Its quite effective.
I mainly use Dimension in PvP now anyway. I must be doing something right as I went to Sirens for the first time against villains yesterday for am hour or so and walked out after getting a badge for defeating 20 villains, and only died 3 times when jumped 3-4 on one ( except the mistake I made against yo momma ), but still held my own, and I'm not very good at PvP
Crazy.... no..... different yes.....
The fact that Soul Drain can be slotted with damage and buff, does not make it crazy to slot it just for damage, its a choice, you cold slot it for either Damage, buff or both. As I said not crazy. I can do quite a bit of damage to a number of targets with one shot of Soul Drain.
Wasting slots, no. most of the damage and acc aspects are nearly maxed out on all my attacks. I have most other powers I could need, though I may still juggle them about at a later date. So its how you look at it really..
Any damage dealing AT with only 3 or 4 attacks would be repetitive for me too. The later attacks in a scrapper set do make scrapping much more fun.
[edit] DM excepted as DM appears to have a lot of holds.
Saying this it could be repetitive because your running the missions on too easy a reputation. Try upping the Rep to see if it's still a grind.

to each their own. Flurry is one I havent tried yet, the animation time is too long for Martial Arts. Plus
MA powers have a ACC bonus.
The lure of MA is that all the powers are useful- In fact I now took all 8 powers in MA (exception is warriors challenge).
Also Flitz you need to try out new improved Crippling Axe Kick. IMHO It's MA's second strongest attack.

I took flurry as part of his original concept - can flit in and out of real-time making him seem like he's moving quickly - and it also has a small chance of disorient. I did have to slot it with an ACC enhancement to keep it up with other MA powers - not so much an issue with ED. Will need to see if I can fit CAK into my build if it's that much improved - it does immobilization if I remember - I think I can fit that into his concept.

Raven always solos, which is probably why he thinks Scrappers are the most boring.

Heya,
Is it just me or do scrappers get abit repetitive and straighforward when leveling it higher?
Im kind of experiencing that, and gonna take my dark/dark def higher or start a mind/kin controller for good soloing..
