Inertial Reduction - Good?

Just planning for Level 28 and wondered if Inertial Reduction is worth picking, and if so in what circumstances is it useful?

Is this another Siphon Speed i.e. on first glance it appears to just do a single trick (jumping really high in this case), but actually has some really useful elements/side-benefit to it?

Any opinions most welcome.

I have it on my Kinetics defender. It is an entirely single trick power. The only point of it is to avoid a travel power, ie using Siphon Speed before level 18 and use Inertial Reduction afterwards.

For a controller I think it is pretty pointless.

@Unthing ... Mostly on Union.

I used inert reduction from 1-50 on my kin defender, i respecced it out for PvP (took air supperiority and fly) however I found it really useful, basically it was my y- axis movement (ss+inert) inert reduction was a lot cheaper than taking superjump as there was no lead power. Also with inert reducition there is no suppression so its great when having to get out of mobs, after fulcruming and maybe getting a lot of aggro on the open area maps. Another benefit for inert reduction was for the folks with only ss, they found it really useful during respec tfs in terra volta and other areas where it is hard to treck with ss.

All in all if you want a cheap travel power I'd go for it, its fun and fast and its great giving SJ to the lowbies in atlas

I recently got to test it on my then level 41 controller. Combined with superspeed it's real fun and according to the using hero it helps navigate in most cities with water. (At first I thought someone had team-TPed me in the air, that's how high it went. BTW I loved not having to find a ramp).

I ignored IR up to 48. Today I respec'd it in. My travel powers now consist of siphon speed and inertial reduction. I dropped SJ for it.

I was worried it wouldn't stand up to comparison with SJ but it does. The range is at least the same as SJ, it lasts 60 secs and recharge is 60 secs, you don't have to siphon a mob to get it. I like it.

Not sure at 28 whether I would have taken it as my main form of transport though.

well...its a nice power...sj with more air control but still think that the leaping pool is too good a pool to be ignored therefore making it redundant, except maybe if you go for the flight pool

It's great as it gives your whole team un-suppressabel superjump. Laustin uses this and a combination of hover w/siphon speed as his travel powers.

I had it for a few lvls and just got fed up having to recast every time it ran out - not for me.

I think that acrobatics is needed as a troller so I respecced my toon, got rid of IR and went for the leaping pool instead.

Couldn't you put it on an auto use thing so that every 60 seconds you just use it again without having to press it every 60 seconds

It scales with lvl but I actually find it faster to get around with than SJ. SJ scales to allow you to jump higher while IR scales to allow you to jump further. I can manage 1.5 zones before I have to recast, more than enough to make it a 'proper' travel power.

Even when I had SJ I never had Acrobatics, in the early levels I did fall about quite a lot, tbh now I get a surprise if even an AV can cause knockback (tomorrow I will be knocked back, down, up and sideways by anything that I even look at, mark my words ).

Wheeeeee!

I always try to fit this power in when I can, even if it is at 49 (that's for the PvP build where I take CJ,SJ,acrobatics) - always a lot of fun to go over to atlas and drop it on the lvl 2ers...

Well, you could, but the problem is it's a 'freeze' animation that drops you from the sky when you cast it. Better to be able to cast it yourself as your coming in to land rather than dropping from the sky into a large mob.

People always say that, but I don't see what the problem is. With IR and SJ, I have never fallen into a mob - people do realise you can steer when jumping, yeah?

Yes, but you can't steer when you're in mid-IR animation. it drops you like a stone, straight down. He was talking about putting IR on Auto fire.

Putting it on auto wouldn't be good for the very reason you mention, it works like the tp animation, if you arrive in mid air you plop straight down onto the ground. When IR runs out normally you just sail to the ground as in any normal jump, find you can't take off again and hit the button and off you go.

My autofire is saved for hasten, although in that situation the beauty of inertial reduction is of course no suppresion so should have no problems bouncing back up in the air,to safety if you land in a mob, (which never happens....to me anyway)

Suckiest power on the game IMO. People rate it soo highly as a travel power but consider this - you have to recast it every 2 minutes, with a proper Travel power you can get neighbouring powers like combat jumping / hover which give DEF bonuses and i found it to have no proper use ingame except entertain lvl 1s.

In the past I would have agreed with that but not anymore. Taking CJ and Hover to get SJ and Fly now is a means to an end, nothing more. The defence bonus for them has been dropped to the point where they are borderline useless for that purpose. I'd imagine it's getting close to the point where taking air sup or jump kick would be of more benefit.

IR may not be the be all and end all of travel powers but unless I take a detour, or make a mistake in where I'm heading, I'm usually one of the first to arrive at a mission.

Over-rated: maybe
Under-rated: probably

IR also can't ve toggle-dropped, making it helpful to have applying to you when you run out of endurance in a fight.

By the time I got a repsec in the early 40s, IR was my only travel power, allowed me to get Spectral Terror!
