Energy Blast Worth It On A Corr?
Try Energy/Storm. Yes, you tend to knock things out of Freezing Rain; but it doesn't matter much because Freezing Rain has persistant debuffs that last after the target is knocked out of the Rain. Plus, flinging your enemies around like toys is fun.

You could wait until i16 and roll a nrg/TA. That would work nicely. TA has lots of res debuff and mitigation. I like nrg blast but find it harder to use on a corr as oppose to a blaster.
Energy/Kin are a lot of fun to play. At first glance the sets wouldn't seem to mesh well, but the knockback does provide some mitigation that Kin can lack.
I have a Energy/Them and its a lot of fun to play the KB has as of yet not been a problem for me in fact it makes soloing easy and most teams don't mind the KB so long as your not doing farming but over all its a great set and Energy torrent, Explosive blast, Nova, Self Destruct is FUN!

I have a Nrg/Dark and it's also a lot of fun to play in teams.
Nothing like hitting howling twilight after 7 teammates wipe and they all rez at the same time as you Nova the aggro off.

To the OP, energy/dark is great for solo and team play. The hardest thing to learn is the proper use of knockback

So far I've made a Fire/Cold, Fire/Storm, Rad/Therm, Ice/Rad, and I was looking to make a new Corr with a blast set that I haven't used yet. So Dark, AR, Elec, and Nrg were my options. I hate the wholeconcept of AR so that is completely out the window, elec is such low damage that I'm just not that interested. Dark and Nrg are the two that I'd consider, but I already have a rad/dark def so figured Nrg would be a nice go around.
However I'm looking at 2ndries and I can't really think of one where the KB doesn't seemingly noticably hurt the strengths of the 2ndry. Rad toggls flying all over, baddies flying out of Freezing Rain/Sleet/Tar Pit. Pretty much the only set I could think of that wouldn't be noticably hurt by the KB are Therm since the AoE debuff is an opening attack that will stay on the opponent, Pain for the same reason, and Kin cause after FS mob position isn't too important. Am I over exaggerating this at all? My previous thought on Nrg had always been that it was a bad set for Corrs and Defs cause their ATs couldn't generate enough damage out of the attacks to make the KB forgivable, and the KB would often be more detrimental than the benefit of the damage the powers were doing on teams. Should I just save my interest in nrg blast for a blaster or like I asked am I over exaggerating?
