If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

And I'll add, it's likely the video driver. But as you say, there's no specs, so we really would be shooting a shotgun at a pea... and we're as likley to hit it with that approach.
So get the logs and we'll see what we can do. COH Helper and Hijack This.

Well... perhaps I was premature about that whole 'signing off' thing... - 11-9-2012
Maybe he just logged in during an invasion and it overloaded his computer. They have been running this weekend.

Well, you said "CoX is the most graphics-intensive thing he does on his PC." That leads me to believe he doesnt have sufficient cooling in his rig. If he played CoH for a long time as the card was getting hot it could start to malfunction.
Now, you say this happens when he first logs in and its all bonky. I would think the card itself, not the driver, is the issue. It could have permanent heat damage done to its circuits, or could be caked with dust and cant cool properly.
The reason it doesnt do it with anything else is because, from what I assume, he is just using his pc for internet browser, maybe online flash games, or something. Those take little to no power from the card at all, so it wouldnt make it heat up.
Like everyone said, we have no actual specs, so this is just my guess from what I know.
My suggestion is to have him take the side of his computer, get a can of Air-Duster and blow all the dust off of everything inside. Remove the card itself and thoroughly dust it off and wipe it clean with a dry cloth.
Thats my guess, hope it helps.

I am thinking it is 1) video driver, or maybe 2) Direct X corruption.

Or 3) his computer is dying.
Try playing the game in safe mode. Does that work?
with the screen scrunching down that sounds like what i had happen on my first comp back in '97. Turned out fryed a vid card. Was a big deal back then but nowadays not so much. if that turns out to be the case i would recomend he purchase the top of the line card so he can continue to play games on it for another 5-10 years.
Y'all quit guessing and maybe those logs will show up and perhaps we can actually solve the problem instead of throwing things at it a la Darth Vader vs Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.
/Mark was way lame during that part. It just looked so... bad.

Hey all, thanks for the responses.
My friend had some RL issues pop up and I was unable to get my grubby paws on his PC last weekend, but when I do I'll post the specs and such.
Thanks again.

Also, (and the logs will definitely help), have him run the 'verify files' option from the CoX pather, and see if that also fixes anything.
Hello all,
I have a friend who is having some major issues with his game. I bought him a few booster packs (Cyborg, Magic and the Mac Pack) for his birthday, and he says a couple of days later his game completely screwed up. I haven't seen it yet, but here is his description of the problem:
He can load the game and log in, but there are characters missing from all the text in the game.
The top half of his screen is covered by an orange haze, and the game screen is scrunched down into the lower half of the monitor.
When he gets into the game, if he takes *any* action - move, activate a toggle, anything - the game freezes the entire computer, such that my friend has to hit the reset button.
He has uninstalled the game and reinstalled twice, to no avail. Also, my friend says his PC is working just fine for everything else he does. However, CoX is the most graphics-intensive thing he does on his PC.
As I said, I haven't looked at his PC yet, so I don't have any specs to give. I can post those later when I get to see the machine.
I am thinking it is 1) video driver, or maybe 2) Direct X corruption.
So, has anybody seen anything like this before? Any ideas?
