Well I play NC's Guildwars, and Exteel...and i play it becuz of economy friendly (no money required thing) and i was thinking for this game here that we can use a type of internet account/membership passes.

[u]Link to idea image:[u] http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cf...mageID=19225730

this internet account/membership pass will allow people to play the game. when people play they dont need a toll booth issue for accounts and the playing. oh wait sry off type hahaha xD um, but anyways with the card they would have free access to the game and would be allowed in the game as long as they want and if they wish too they can pay when they are off work or on break from collage.

they also would do the paying using the game money earn in these quests which what the card will do is with the money they earned, it would cover their fees and so on.

if you have any comments...possibly a complement or even a question regarding this idea plz post a reply i was be glad to hear from you all.

No im Proposing a Option offer to pay for the game.

I know that CoX used to have purchasable game cards that covered subscription costs so that people wouldn't need to pay using a credit card. They're either all gone or very rare these days, I think.

I'm...really not sure what else you're proposing. Game kinda needs money to maintain and keep developing.

[/ QUOTE ]Any time card/game card for an NCSoft game works for CoX. There's also the NCSoft time card that works for CoX, which I believe mostly replaced the CoX time cards.

Ah, nice to know. Never used them, so never really looked for them.

well the way the economy is....I dont think people can even pay for it. However, if people were to have a Account/membership pass they might be able to play it can when they can afford to pay for the use of NCsoft's Game Server they can.

Or...we can do a City of Heros time card whatever suits the people playing the game. O.o surely you all understand cuz I listen to the news about the Economic Crisis. But like i said this idea/suggestion is just a thought.

However i dont use Cox (if its a cable for TV) I use DirectTV + DSL

[/ QUOTE ]NCSoft also has to pay money to run the servers, to own the servers, as well as pay the development team. And as far as expenses go, an MMO like CoX is pretty darn cheap when you think about it... going out to the threatre costs more than a month subscription... when I went with a couple friends last time, if I had paid for my own ticket as well, I would have shelled out more than two months subscription!

Well im not saying that I dont want to pay it...its just not many people can do that...although I would use my $170 for the fee, but Im saving it for a HD Camcorder.

But dont this the wrong way.

well in my years in playing most games, the companies that make games that are online RPG games...they sell shirts, and action figures (which they make one heck of a profit from doing so).

No, they don't. They make nearly all their "profit" from actual game subs. Other things have a HUGE overhead:

cost of creating artwork
cost of designing products to go with the artwork
meetings - does this artwork go best with blue or white? building maintenance, salaries, electric costs (and yes, there are more than one meeting for any given product. if you've ever been in a marketing meeting, you'd know)
finding a manufacturer to produce items
approving items, including shipping back and forth from company
deciding on how many to make - preorder? sale-after-creation only? more meetings!
actual cost of manufacturing
actual cost of shipping
actual cost of storage
actual cost of distribution and advertising <-- that one is the worst
... So... No. Manufacturing ANYTHING - a tshirt, a bumper sticker, anything, is far more expensive than it's worth for a company whose only "product" is virtual.

Costs of running a virtual server - minimal compared to making a single item.
Costs of keeping staff / programmers = paid by subs and then some.

Great Werewolf.

I love your idea.

Let's get together and discuss it. Oh, and I need to borrow $10,000 from you.
I am sure we can work out some membership card I can use instead of actually ever giving your money back!

When can we meet to do this?
It would be really fun!

hmmmmmm.......I know someone that is a formal Anime-club leader for Oceanside High School...his dad puts images for shirts for only $5.

._.' though I know it would get me yelled at by the people of this forum, but im kind of an idealist.

Even idealists are bound by economical systems. If you can show me how your Boss can get you to perform your job at your workplace without paying you money, maybe you can in turn show NCSoft how they can provide a free MMO and yet keep their employees performing their duties without being paid, maybe then CoX could become a free MMO!

im not employed i'll ask my friend (since his dad makes the shirts) can work on that, but i'll have to find him.

*sigh* >_<! dang...I should of gotten my friends cell number. ah well cant change the past.

But does he actually make a profit from that? Or does it just cover the cost of goods? Also, is it enough profit to pay the salaries of ~60 employees, plus servers, plus NCSoft GMs?

I think $15 is very reasonable price, as it's VERY cheap, yet it also allows the developers to make investments in the game, like to spend the money to release several free Issues a year.

Look, this is really simple... GuildWars relies on a simpler model (both business-wise, and server-wise) that is not comparable to what CoX offers you. So, in essence, Guild Wars is a simple game that happens to offer a very limited multiplayer experience unlike CoX.

That's the reason why when you buy a GuildWars box and a CoX box, their price is different, and the GW box costs much more than a CoX box, but for CoX you have to pay a subscription fee.

If you're really interested in these issues and topics, I suggest you do some research into understanding how online-mulitplayer infrastructures like XBOX LIVE and Playstation Network, as well as Steam and other services work, and also research some successful MMO's out there that offer varied payment systems. After doing the research, you can better formulate any ideas you have and communicate them to your fellow forumite.

You can't pay for servers on promises.
You can't pay a company's various bills on promises.
You can't pay employees on promises.
Those employees can't buy food for their families on promises. Or pay their rent/house payments/insurance/etc. on promises.

COX is a luxury item - and a cheap one at that. If you can't fit it into your budget, it doesn't hurt anything not to have it for a month, or three, or what have you. And you can, of course, pay ahead if you do have the money (and do so at a discount.)
