Provoke?

I like to be the type of Scrapper that helps his teammates along with killing everything in my path.

How effective is Provoke?

I had a DM/WP that I loved...it helped me pull agro of of others with the taunt aura in RttC.

I recently got a DM/SR to 50 which is now my new favorite Scrapper but I do not like not having any Taunt.

Would getting Provoke on my DM/SR be a good thing for that?

Also...what does the animation of Provoke look like?

Honestly, take confront instead, to get the attention of the worst in the spawn. Provoke has a ToHit roll, and I've never touched that pool, honestly.

Provoke is a two-handed "come get it" gesture. I can't speak to the effectiveness of the power, though.

6-slotted you can have a good taunt with Provoke. Just remember to slot for accuracy. Here's a suggested slotting (you can just 6-slot either of the two sets if you have global acc bonuses):

But...

Why would you want Provoke in the first place?

You have a perfectly good taunt in your primary. Unless you -really- wanted the AoE, or maybe some Fearing down the line, I'd just go with Confront.

Well Provoke is an AoE taunt that lasts for 25ish seconds when well-slotted. Great for MMs and I guess might be good for tanking scrappers.

Hm. Maybe. I'm a bit wary of a tanking Scrapper, but if he's got a regular team that can support that, more power to him.

Why softcapped dm/sr is easy to be a tank I mean come on I done it; tanked with a katana/sr I been a better tank on my fire/shield then some of the tanks I have run with very little support.

/Invuln make terrific tanks when properly IO'd. Invincibility is a fantastic taunt aura, and they can be built to be very survivable.
/SR are also very survivable, but no taunt aura - still, I "tank" on mine (ie: go into the pile first and hold agro with damage).
/SD is between the two above, and very good.
/WP can be good, but poooor agro aura.
/Dark can do a fantastic job tanking minion-heavy areas, although being a resist set they're significantly more challenged against boss/eb/av heavy groups.

I'd hardly agree you need a regular team to support a tanking inclined scrapper. I just ran a ~55 minute ITF on an invuln scrapper and I don't think I went below 50% hp more than once (First rommie while I was in tells), even when I ran off and solo'd some of the crystal rooms. Sure, there were insps involved, but I'm ~ 40% S/L and 20-24% to E/NE/Melee/Range for defense - before invinc. Pop a purp and an OJ and ignore the level 52 dark dwarves/novas while you rip apart a crystal, then run off and find another one.

I have a question on this, does anyone know if Provoke from the power pools has the same minus range as other taunts?

Posted

It doesn't have any -range. Only the ones in tanker/brute/scrapper sets have the -range. (I don't know about Dwarf form taunts for Khelds)

I had it on my BS/DA and specced out of it as soon as I could. It just wasn't reliable enough for me since my damage aura has no taunt component.

I could see taking it for any of the 3 sets that have functioning taunt auras (Invuln, WP, SD), but not for anything else.

Khelds benefit from this too (Its in the i13 patch notes), I am not sure about Crabs taunt though. But Presence Pool taunts doesn't grant -range debuff.
