whats the least played defender primary
My defender background:
- Rad played to 50 on an ill/rad
- Storm played to 45 on a fire/storm controller
- TA/A played to 50
- Bots/FF MM played to 50
- Dark/Dark played to 40
and
- Sonic/Sonic Def played to 38 (so all powers and fully slotted)...
I believe the following comments were absolutely right.

Sonic also has the bad luck to get a redundant anti-mezz power, a "knockback" aura power that can't be used on yourself, and a very situational intangibility power. All with no heal, and much weaker shields than Force Field. Sonic does offer extra damage, but it requires a teammate for the full effect. ...
Once Thermal comes to Defenders that may be the last we ever see of Sonic.

The thing is that /Sonic is so toggle heavy that the character can do little else.
[/ QUOTE ]
Personally, I think that the only thing Sonic has for itself is the cool orange looks. People love having you on teams... but it's just not fun to play. You buff people, apply toggle and that's it. That's even worse than FF in terms of interactivity.
So what your all telling me is that I run the rare defenders? My lvl 50 Dark/dark and my lvl 50 Sonic/elec are two of my FAVORITES. I have an emp and a rad, but truly I would rather run my dark over the rad, and my sonic over my emp ANY day of the week...
Based on this thread, I need an FF, a stormie and maybe an ice if it is still rare by the time the other 2 hit 50? Heh.
Don't worry, Dark/Dark is anything but rare.
However, Sonic/Elec is quite rare. I'd say that Elec tends to be somewhat rare, usually only being paired with Kinetics for the -end and -rec then Storm for thematic purposes.
I've gotten some more play time on my Dark/Elec and am starting to like him more. Not quite as experienced with him as my Storm/Dark to do crazy things with him... yet. I think my favorites of my 50s are in reverse order of what people pick them. Storm/Dark, Dark/Elec, Mind/FF, and then my Emp/Psi. If I mention either my Mind/FF or Emp/Psi when giving the choices for a TF, they are always chosen.
I did a LGTF last night with my Dark/Elec, to which not only was he fun, but also quite effective. We had 2 SoA, a Brute (who wasn't tanking, Yay!), a blaster, and 3 defenders (Dark/Elec, Rad/Rad, Emp/Rad). The Empath didn't seem like she was doing much, though I could of been wrong, but me and the Night Widow were always at the front line regardless of where anyone else was. If we were done with the mob, we'd move ahead. It was great fun. I also managed to get 2 purples out of it and the TF only took 2 hours and 15 minutes.
The 2nd purple was amazing because it was for defeating the weakened Hami, which was something we were having difficulty with. Mostly because of the rest of the team's stupidity and failing to attack the same glowy orb thingy.
50s: Bla- Arch/Mental Cont- Mind/FF, Earth/Cold, Ill/Therm, Earth/Rad Dominator- Plant/Psi, Elec/Earth Corr- Fire/Storm, Arch/Sonic, Rad/Kin, Beam/Sonic, Psi/Time Stalker- Elec/SR Def- Storm/Dark, Emp/Psi, Dark/Elec, FF/Arch, TA/Ice, TA/Elec, Kin/AR, Cold/DP, Traps/Psi Scrap- Fire/Shield Tanker- Dark/Mace, Ice/Kin Brute- Claws/WP, SS/Energy, BS/Elec
I've found TA/Elec to be a decent combo. Short Circut and Oil Slick make for a good pair. I feel as though I do a little bit of everything with this combo.
When there is no room left in Hell, the Dead shall walk the earth.
Speaking as probably the single most prolific/notorious storm defender on Liberty: I don't think it's a dying breed, it's always been an exceedingly rare breed. The learning and power curve on the storm primary is long, and most people don't stick with it long enough to grok the nuance and tactical control that storm provides.
Too many players think hurricane is force bubble, and once they realize it isn't, they delete the toon, usually long before it begins to perk up.

Yeah, I PVP in a pink bunny suit. What of it?
I know the subject is the least played defender *primary*, but a defender combo I've never seen besides myself is a Rad/Ice. I'm not saying they don't exist, I just have never seen another, which seems unfortunate as this combo has such awesome versatility.

I've got a rad/ice! lvl 32 in virtue! Chernobyl Child.
yeah, I haven't seen any other ones either.
Also, this just in, started my Sonic/Archery Defender! Mids told me I can get up to using 6.11end/sec...I'm so excited! (that's before endrdx enhancers, and yes, I have Telekinesis, that makes up for about half that number)

You know... I've not seen another of that combo either. Great for teaming or solo though. Mine's on Virtue.
Siberian Spring-50 (Cold/Rad, Rad/Ice, Ice/Rad, Sh/Ice) - KGB SS8
Chernozem-50 (Ice/MM, Emp/Ice, MA/Regen) - KGB SS8
Wila-50 (Dark/Arch) - KGB SS8
Also: Krassivy Mechtayu-50 (Ill/Rad) - KGB SS8; Ms. Hypatia-50 (Dark/Regen)
I wonder how a rad/ice super team would fair.... *Cheesy, wavy dream transition*
Slows, debuffs, the fact that 8 rad/* or */rad make for quick super teams anyway.... hmmm...
8 Blaster level Ice Storms up every 15 seconds, and a -240% Resistance debuff?
Now that would be wicked!
plus +200% dam buff from 8 AMs!
...did I just thread-jack?

My SG runs that team. Pure awesome. Massive AoE starting at level 4 with Frost Breath and capped off with Ice Storm at level 20. Too much ownage.

Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.
Tactics are for those who do not have a big enough hammer. Wisdom is knowing how big your hammer is.
I gotta say, I don't see many sonics or Forcefields that much anymore. Since it's easy to hit soft-capped defense in the higher lvls, so why need them?

I wish I saw more sonics. I think the powerset as a whole is ... not great, and the devs should retinker it.
Force fields will always have it's place ("ie: My pug team is now win") but it's pretty one dimensional, with a trick or two. I'd usually rather a cold, but I've seen FF do some crazy, crazy things that colds will never be able do.
I am officially setting out to be the Sonic guru, I'll be working over the next few months to learn everything I can! My projects now include:
Sonic/Archery (Currently lvl 20)
Sonic/Sonic (Currently lvl 1 )
Sonic/Psychic (Currently lvl 12)
Sonic/Energy (Currently being dreaded)
Also, if it ever gets ported, I'll start Sonic/AR instantly.

You can roll an AR/Sonic corr right now. I should know, I'm doing it (lvl 37).

There's no redundancy in adding a Sonic to a soft-capped team. In fact, the Sonic basically guarantees invincibility. Even with a 5% chance to get hit (that goes up according to rank and level), if a boss Cimeroran crits a squishy and connects, that's basically a dead squishy. Sonic softens the blow quite nicely. With a Sonic that dead squishy is instead at 1/2 health and has enough time to react to get back to full health.

So all or even most squishies and non-defense based scappers/tankers are running around with 45% defense to everything?

I ran a fire/rad troller ST and we realized running assault was redundant because the damage bonus from AM put us pretty close to the damage cap - *shrug*
I don't see a whole lot of FF or Sonic at higher levels (at least on Defenders), despite both sets being quite good.
[ QUOTE ]
Best TF I ran had 4 defenders, we were a steamroller.
And...looks like I'll be making a sonic defender. Yep yep... Sonic...something, I wonder what the least played secondary is?
[/ QUOTE ]
Sonic/sonic is a great combination, thematic and effectice. (and my latest defender to 50 )
Certainly wouldn't fall into the least played secondary though, may well be pushing for most played.
