Can you live without GFS?
Skipping GFS is VERY viable. It's DPS isn't anythinh special at all. Less than Incinerate if I recall. What it does have if front loaded damage so you get that big SMASH at the start.
Other than that?
I skip it myself.
Skipping GFS is ok like Powerforge said. With the attack chain of Inc>Scorch>Cremate>Scorch will be around 170DPS and the attack chain of Inc>GFS>Cremate>Fire sword can be around 180 DPS so your not going to lose much.
Thanks P-forge and thanks for the numbers Brokenprey, I'll stick to the plan then

What's the difference in recharge between the two chains? Seems like one might be more low-recharge friendly than the other....
Lets see in the Inc>Scorch>Cremate>Scorch chain
Inc will need to recharge in 4.092 so that will be 144%
Cremat will need to recharge in 4.224so that will be 89%
Scorch will need to recahrge in 1.716 so that will be 74%
Now
Inc>GFS>Cremate>Fire sword
Inc will need to recharge in 5.808 so that will be 72%
GFS will need to recharge in 5.148 sso that will be 133%
Cremate will need to recharge in 5.94% so that will be 24%
FS will need to recharge in 6.072 and that will be 0%
So it look like a 10% recharge is the different in to attacks chains. Both don't seem to be high recharge chains because it is not hard to put 95% recharge in an attack so that would mean you would only need 49% Global at the most.
Skipping it is viable, but I don't like too. Without it I feel like fire melee really lacks burst damage. And there are times when that's what you need.
I'm gonna throw in with the "You can, but I don't wanna!" crowd. Granted, it's not like skipping Head Splitter, but it would just feel odd to skip the T9.

Ditto.
I always seem to find it useful on my builds so i take it. I never found it to be a deal breaker either way.
I skipped it. I use the Incin>Scorch>Cremate>Scorch chain. Since I took Hasten, this chain has been viable since level 26(I am 34 now).
I haven't found burst damage to be an issue. If I BU>Incin>Cremate>FSC, +1 Lts die, and if used on a boss, they are left hurtin' badly. The built up FSC also does nice collateral damage to minions at the same time. After the alpha I go into the ST chain for mop-up.
/SR makes a build inherently tight, and freeing up a power choice without losing but 10 dps is always a nice option, especially since the Incin>Scorch>Cremate>Scorch chain has better eps.

Well guys I"d like to fit it but I can't find room in my build (see OP).
If I were an invulnerability master I would make it fit, but alas I am not...

I like GFS. I guess if you play a spreadsheet and need MAXIMUM XP/S then some folks say you should drop it? I don't know. I hate the sound effect though. HISS! FWOOSH! Sounds like a CoT ghosty thing. I like big numbers all at once, and GFS delivers that. Also one more place to throw in kinetic combats for that juicy s/l def.
No, no. You keep it for maximum DPS. But dropping it still allows for a very good attack chain with less of an endurance problem to fix. In other words, yes, you can live without GFS.

I'm in the same boat...
That said... My current build don't have it. I had to find room for ET. It makes solo farming 52 bosses set for 8 a bit easier...
Um, GFS is skippable, but it's hardly "nothing special". Incinerate does indeed have a better DPA, but GFS is the 2nd best attack in Fiery Melee and has about the same DPA as Golden Dragonfly, Sweeping Strike & Midnight Grasp. It's also quite a bit higher than anything Claws, BS or Spines can do for ST damage.
Since Incinerate > Scorch > Creamate > Scorch does work so well, I do skip it on my Fire/Fire, but only with great reluctance, mostly cuz I go for S/L def cap and not the silly recharge that would enable a Incinerate > GFS > Cremate chain.

When both do/don't crit, and GD only hits one target. But GD, like Head splitter, is a small cone that can hit multiple targets, and it has an increased chance to crit. So overall GD will have a better DPA than GFS.
But GFS is still freakin' sweet, and if it fit, I'd totally have it in my build on a Fire Melee scrapper.

Both, very good points, and Sweeping Strike can be part of a combo to increase its overall DPA as well. I just wanted to illustrate that GFS falls pretty high up the scrapper food chain.

Yup, pretty much.

Damn now I want GFS. Any suggestions on my posted build (see OP) to fit it in?
Thanks!
I would drop Resist Elements personally, or one of the other passives. I just took a quick peek at your build so I think losing RE and the reactive set would only take away a puny res buff and small def bonuses that you won't really miss. I would think that's worth GFS if you want it.

Thanks Rakin, I went with your suggestion and took 1 slot out of scorch and aid self to 5-slot GFS. Now I have 44.9% s/l def with 1 foe in range, I guess it's better than the 41% from before even though my f/c went down a bit

Awww that's be too painful for me on any build that isn't SR (because SR has great runspeed with slotted quickness+swift). I want this to be an AV killer and AE farmer but also doing normal missions, TFs and such.
I was wondering, is it good DPS if I skip GFS and chain Scorch-Cremate-Incinerate (and scorch in the gaps if any)?
Also would it be possible to chain them without gaps in this build?
Thanks in advance!
