Help me decide on a secondary for my Plant/...!
I'm by no means a controller afficiando, but recently rolled up a Plant/Rad and followed the wonderful Plant/Rad "splattroller" guide by Enantiodromos ( Plant/Rad Build Guide )
I solo'd most of the time apart from some SG team-ups, ran regular content, and in short order he's sitting at 32 with his weirdo pet fly trap. I've been playing awhile, ad wanted to really test out the build, so I bumped him to rugged (challenge level 2) immediately after finishing the tutorial; right beofore hitting level 17, I bumped the difficulty to unyielding (challenge setting 4) and haven't looked back [NOTE: veteran powers (blackwand & sands of mu) are what allowed me to do this effectively -- I would not try it without them]. That is the earliest I've ever been able to sustain unyielding on any character I've run.
Needless to say, I'm very impressed with that build and highly recommend /Rad to go with Plant Control.
And with the temporary travel powers you get from Safeguards, I put off a travel power to get the classic control powers in earlier -- otherwise I followed the build advice linked above. So even as a "splattroller," I've been able to play classic control when I need to.
Well I rolled a Plant/TA and did enjoy it, TA does come into it's own often late for controllers. And I've done the Storm Defender thing; having done both now deep down in my heart I wish my Plant troller was a Plant/Storm.
Poisonous Ice 50 Ice/Rad
Icy Jax 50 Ice/SS
Jaxon Penn 50 Shield/Mace
Cpt Clax 50 Thugs/Dark
Lady BlackIce 50 Dark/Cold
Lady Black Ice 50 Dark/Ice
Bella Jax 50 Storm/Sonic
Operative Jax 50 SoA
Level 50 Trick Arrow Alts
TA/A-Plant/TA-Bots/TA
Level 50 Claws Scrappers
SR-Regen-DA-Invul-WP-FA
I have a high level Plant/Rad, and it is a great combination. I also have a Plant/Storm, just about 20, that I will get back to one of these days.
But, if you are designing this to duo with a Fire/Kin, that makes a difference. If you went with Plant/Kin, you would both be able to skip the Fitness Pool by speed boosting each other. You would be able to skip a travel power, too (might want to take one leveling up and then respec out later). That will give you plenty of room for both of you to take the leadership toggles, and stacked leadership is quite effective. 2xTactics will make a big difference.
Between Seeds of Confusion and Flashfire, you will both have AoE control in spades. The fire/kin will run in with Hot Feet to do AoE damage, while you stand back and throw Roots, which also does good AoE damage. You will be able to stack Char and Strangler on bosses.
Two Kinetics will have a multiplier effect. I have been on teams where we had two Kins, and the effect is awesome. In fact, one of the "superteams" I was on had two Kin/sonic Defenders plus three Rads, and we were all able to skip Fitness quite easily.
LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

I think Plant/Storm and Plant/Rad are great combos. Juicy!

I took Plant/Kin to 50 and really enjoyed it. Great on teams and solos effectively too. Kin is very clicky, which some folks like and other don't (I do - also have a 50 Grav/Kin).
Storm and rad are good choices as well.

Plant is a bit lacking against enemies that resist Confusion; /TA helps a lot. And you can reduce enemy resistance and defense without reducing their damage output, which makes Seed more effective. There's a lot of synergy between the two.

Thank you all for the responses!
Taking this all under consdieration, and checking with my duo partner, I went with Plant/Kinetics. I got him to level 9 today pretty easily, and it was lotsa fun too!
Thanks again for the input!

When you can both (if your partner went Kin/ or /Kin) SB each other it's amazing.
Seriously, I just cannot decide what to take as my secondary!
I have 1 Plant/Storm, but it's on a different server and only like, 12 or so. This is going to be for primarily duoing with a Fire/Kin that my duo partner just rolled.
For secondaries, I have no interest in /Sonic. everything else is game.
Personally, I think /Empathy seems a bit too healy, and /Trick Arrow seems a bit of control overkill... I'm not terribly fond of /Thermal. So I'm leaning towards Force Field (which my partner's not fond of the bubbles), Kinetics (which partner is taking, do we need 2?), Radiation, or Storm (Both of which I've used before, Storm with Plants/, a little).
So, like I said, I'm open to any of them really, except for /Sonics, and maybe /Thermal.
Which one do you think meshes best with Plant/ and would work best with a Fire/Kin for a fun time? Please, any input will be happily accepted!!!
