Does invisibility break mob targeting?

I have Stealth, I am on the road to Phase Shift, and I'm trying to decide between Grant Invisibility and Invisibility.

It would be really nice if I could run up to a mob, hit them with a couple PBAoE's, then fade into the shadows, leaving them looking over their shoulders, wondering when the next strike will come (and giving me a chance to reset).

Once when I fought Nocturne, she was ripping me up, and I retreated a bit to take a breather. And she started to fade on me! I lost targeting on her and *I* was looking over my shoulder, wondering when the next strike would come!

According to Wikia, Nocturne only has Stealth. I, however, (even though I have stealth) am not sure that any mob has ever lost its lock on me. Maybe some Vahz zombies... they sometimes just turn and start walking away for no apparent reason.

Would it be a different story with Invisibility? I mean, the fact that you *can't* attack while invisible kind of stinks. Also, I seem to sneak around most groups in missions just fine with Stealth. And Invis. costs twice as much end to run. What am I going to get that's worth those costs? If it makes it easier for me to fade from the mobs' view like Nocturne faded from mine, I'm all over it, but otherwise...

Does anyone have experience with the concealment pool that you can share?

(BTW, if you're wondering why I'm going for phase shift, it's because I have a 7-year-old who likes to get up at 6am, and I want to be able to quit the game the second I hear the pitter-patter of his little feet, whether I'm locked in the fight of my life or not )

Mobs cheat. When they stealth, unless you have a +perception power, you'll generally lose them.

However, this is not true of your own stealth. In combat, it suppresses. As such, turning on invisibility mid-combat is unlikely to do you much good. The mobs will still be able to see you. Invisibility is great to use to avoid combat from the beginning, but isn't that great to use mid-fight, from what I know.

Aett's right.

I had invisibility on my fire blaster and tried exactly what you're describing.

End result: They could still see and target me, and I couldn't attack them back because Invisibility has "Only Affecting Self" on it.

Well, then I propose we put Invisibility in the dictionary right next to "that sucks."

Sigh.

Well, that's pools for you... sometimes you gotta eat a sucky power to get to the tasty ones.

Invisibility is useful when you want to "ghost" your way through a mission, tight area, or just move around in general with no worry of aggroing mobs (with the exception of Rikti Drones and such). Unlike Stealth, you will not be detected up close.

Play a Stalker. (And with Going Rogue, we should be getting heroic Stalkers [Batman!]).

A Stalker has the power to Placate, which takes one off a foe's threat list; and if you have Stealth, you'll stay off of it since they can't see you to regard as a threat again.

If you're not a Stalker, there may be a few temp powers that have a Placate component, otherwise, you'll have to move out of threat range, i.e., the point at which they stop chasing you. That puts you off their threat list and when you approached Stealthed, they wont agro onto you.

Heroic stalkers? Rock!

So I guess my kin/elec offender will have to make do with running like a rabbit after a short circuit/ball lightning ambush... at least until he gets phase shift, at which point he can fade out and stroll off at his leisure.

I hope.

Earn the Day Job Accolade "Socialite", that gives the placate power "Beguile". Then you can placate and go invisible to evade.
(Also great to have 2 placates on a stalker/night widow/bane spider.)

Something I'd like to mention, unless you're taking phse shift for thematic reasons, plan to use it in every fight, or for PVP, it's really not worth taking. Buy the phase temp power at the market and craft it. it gives you 5 charges of phase.

They both only last 30 seconds at a time, and it saves you a power slot(or three) if you only use it as the occasional "oh [censored]" button. The recipe is cheap, and you can get it as many times as you want.

Remember though, placate is single target, the only power that placates more than one power is Smoke Flash which is not auto hit and has a decently long animation time (Phase Shift is much better for this IMO... use it all the time on my Plant/Psi).

Oh! That's a nice idea... it's not THAT often that my son is getting up when I'm in a crowd full of reds. The truth is that PS does fit my concept, but there are plenty of other thematically valid powers that would be more generally useful before level 20 (or 30, for that matter). I could certainly put it off for a while. Thanks!

There is a phase temp power? Gotta admit I've completely missed this one...

Ethereal Shift (the purchasable phase power) is cool, but once you turn it on your can't turn it off until it naturally expires in 30 seconds.

So its great for a solo-er with a kid who might wake up soon, but not so good if you're providing some vital service to your team.

Unless you want to get stuck in the Phantom Zone and helplessly watch your friends get slaughtered for concept reasons :P

Theres also a re-acquirable phase power you can get from Warburg, the level 30 PvP zone. 5 times 30 minutes will probably do you quite well for the seocnd half of your career.

[Ethereal Shift]
Self Intangible
You can shift yourself into the Ethereal Plane. Although you do not become completely invisible, you are translucent and hard to see. You are intangible, and cannot affect or be affected by those in normal space. Once activated, you will remain shifted for 30 seconds. You cannot rest on the Ethereal Plane. You may use this ability five times.
